Miraculously it seemed, our annual spring concert at Orchis landed on my natale. Jules and I had written back and forth, and he was coming to hear me, and then take me out afterwards. I didn't know whether to be excited or nervous, and ended up being both.
I wore a gown of navy blue, the colour setting off my golden skin, the bodice laced with gold ribbon. I had threaded small gold hoops through my ears, and had taken a little extra time with my hair until Jasmine pounded on my door to tell me we were going to be late.
The concert had gone well, the audience high-spirited (like you could find much else at Orchis), and Jules and I were soon on our way to the Laughing Parrot.

It was good to see Keaira again, though I had to admit hearing her was the other benefit; I remembered fondly the way she'd sung for me, as well as the notes her voice took at other times and her laugh, which never came frequently enough. She'd agreed to a somewhat-celebratory dinner and drink after the concert, and the Parrot seemed a perfect place for it.
Now she was standing nearby, not merely a note, and I smiled the wider for it as I led her in and motioned to a table. "Does that suit the beautiful diva, or shall I find one on a higher pedestal so she may be worshiped as she deserves?" I teased with a wink.

"It suits perfectly." I told him with a smile. I had missed his light-hearted ways. "If you put me up too high, I might fall off."

"And you think I'm too slow or weak to catch you?" I teased, eyes wide with mock-sorrow. "Oh, the birthday girl wounds me to the quick, and while I have her gift in my pocket nonetheless!"
Smiling, I led her to the table we'd agreed on and motioned for a bottle of wine to be brought. "Have I mentioned yet how nice it is to see you?"

"Not yet," I told him with a smile, and left a kiss on his cheek. "And it's wonderful to see you as well," I said before I sat down.

"Then let me tell you now," I began verbosely. "It's as though your presence brings the sun from behind the cloud and gives birds something to sing of. Your absence causes my life to be ruled by shadows, a barren wasteland of boredom and plainness."
After my speech I turned to her and winked. "And when I think of more cliches I'll begin the recitation again; but trust me, it is very nice to see you."

I watched him as he stood and declaimed for the entire tavern. I laughed. "Oh sit down, my great loud poet." I teased as the server came over with our wine. I indicated for him to leave it on the table, and poured two glasses.

Chuckling, I sat down with enthusiasm, waiting for her to take a glass before I touched either. "I'm not a very good poet, but at least I am loud," I said with pride, winking at her and then turning the expression wistful and batting my lashes. "Do I get to hear how much you missed me?"

Our two chairs were angled to get a good view of the stage, and so they were quite close to one another. I leaned over to him and whispered in his ear. "I thought about our meeting with excitement every day since the wedding. Is that a weighty enough tale of how much I missed you?" I kissed him on the ear and settled back into my chair, a quirky smile on my face.

Her whispers, the tones in her voice, were enough to cause a light shudder through my body, though I simply smiled and leaned closer to whisper in reply, "No, I think you should tell me more. Especially anything involving being alone late at night.."

I chuckled. "Think pretty highly of yourself, don't you," I teased, picking up a glass and taking a sip of the mellow wine.

"Not at all," I said with a sigh, casting woeful eyes in her direction. "In fact, my self-confidence is so poor that I need your reassurance that I don't embarrass myself every time I see you."

I leaned back to whisper in his ear. "Well, perhaps I was thinking of spending all of tonight with you," I murmured. "Then again, perhaps not." I was grinning in tease as I took another sip of wine.

Grasping my heart I gasped in amazement, a wide smile I couldn't contain coming to my features. "Oh, the beautiful, wonderful songstress gives me hope and then takes it away!" Then, I let my features become a bit softer and sipped my wine, then leaned closer and pressed a kiss just below her ear. "Is there anything I can do to convince you?"

"Just do what comes naturally my dear Jules." I said with a smile. "I'm sure our personalities will take it from there."

"Are you actually saying you like my personality?" I asked softly with a somewhat bemused tone, then sucked lightly on her earlobe before nuzzling her neck. "Keegan said he'd never live to see that day, so now I'll have to check and see he's breathing when I run into him next."

"Of course I do silly," I said with a smile, flesh tingling from his ministrations. "Checking on Keegan can wait right? I rather like you right there."

"It can wait a rather long time, if you wish," I replied smoothly, edging a little further down her neck as the scent of her skin washed over me, shortening my breath from the simply pleasure of it. "Right now I'm more interested in check you."

The server returned with the menus, and covered a grin at our postures. I winked at him, and he had to bite his lips to stop the laughter. He left us alone and I smiled.
"Normally I don't like going to the docteur's office. But this check up seems to be most enjoyable." I murmured, a hand drifting to his thigh and simply laying there.

I didn't even notice our visitor's arrival until he was gone, which caused me to chuckle against her skin, then hum with appreciation and approval as her hand rested on my thigh. "I can only hope your examination is as wonderful as my dinner, which I'm having at this exact moment," I teased, nipping her neck lightly with my lips.

"And here I thought I was desert," I teased back, but I didn't move to take a menu. I was throughly enjoying his touch. My index finger began tracing circles on his leg.

"You can be dinner and dessert if I'm very lucky and you don't get tired of being eaten," I murmured lightly, stopping and closing my eyes as i took a deep breath at her caress. "really, if you want me to I can stop and wait for dessert..."

"And here is the crux of the matter." I told him with a grin, drawing away to meet his eyes. "I don't want you to stop, but if we don't eat, I can't enjoy you for nearly as long."

"Immediate gratification or prolonged gratification," I replied with a nod, holding her gaze and smiling. "For more at a later date I can wait for dessert if you can- otherwise, we can sleep the rest of the time. I have something that may distract you."
Reaching into my pocket I pulled out a simple silver chain with a pendant of a feather hanging on the end like stained glass, filled with colored glass of green, red and blue. "It's not much, but I hope you like it," I told her with a softer smile as I set it in her hand.

My smile grew as I held up the glass to the light. "Oh Jules, it's wonderful! Thank you so much." It was the perfect memento honouring how we met, and I loved it. "Will you do the honour?" I asked, handing it back to him, eyes sparkling with happiness as I pulled my hair out of the way.

"Any chance to see your neck with your hair out of the way is an honor for me," I teased, taking the necklace and fastening it easily, then brushing my lips across her nape as I inhaled her scent. "I'm glad you like it- I only wish it were something more, like a real parrot."

I laughed. "Aye, but then I'd have to look after it," I teased. "This is low maintenance, and just as beautiful."
I turned back to him and kissed him tenderly. "Thank you."

Moaning softly against her kiss I returned it, stroking her neck lightly. "I like your way of showing gratitude," I teased. "Consider me thanked, and feel free to do that whenever you like. If you think I did something nice you can even track me down and 'thank' me."

I laughed again. "I think I just might. But before you can distract me again, here." And I handed him a menu, taking one for myself.

Laughing as well I took the menu and looked it over. "Have you had the roasted chicken who crossed the road?" I teased.
