"I don't mind at all," I said, unlocking the door and holding it open for her. "Welcome to my salon."

"Thank you," I said, smiling at him as I stepped into his place. I stood inside the doorway and glanced about me, curious. "I've never been inside a marquists before," I commented off-handedly.

"Would you like a tour?" I asked as I set my packages down on the counter, then shut the door behind us.
"I live upstairs, but everything down here is workspace if you'd like to look around."

"I'd love a tour," I replied, smiling brightly at him. Unable to keep the interest out of my eyes, I glanced around his workspace again, wondering for mayhap the first time in my life what it would be like to have ink sketched into my skin. The thought nearly made me shudder - I enjoyed art, true, but not one that was a perminant part of myself.

"This is the waiting room," I said, smiling and gesturing to the small space around us.
Stepping over, I pulled aside the curtain in the doorway. "And back here is my work area," I told her, motioning for her to proceed me through.

I stepped through the doorway as he gestured, ducking a little, and probably unnecissarily, to help clear the curtain. "It's.." I faltered a moment, thinking, then smiled in amusement at myself. "Well, honestly, I can't say it's how I always imagined it. I never really put much thought into it before. It is nice, though."

"Thank you," I said with a chuckle, stepping in behind her.
I went over and stoked the brazier, bringing more light to the back of the shop.
"It's noting elaborate, but it's just me working here so it's plenty."

"Sometimes simplicity is the better route," I responded as I walked to the table, running my fingertip over its surface. "Especially in a setting such as this; I would think it would make it easier to get your work done when you don't have to worry about much pomp and circumstance, making sure everything is letter-perfect."

I leaned against the counter to give her as much room to wander around as possible.
"I never really thought about it that way. This is just how I live. Except for art, my needs are simple and plain and I only worry about meeting them, not exceeding them."

I didn't move much, staying near the table and merely looking. "Your needs with art are extravagant, then?" I asked. For as calm and collected as he was, it was obvious that he were passionate about his calling. Idly I wondered if anything else sparked him as such, though I brushed the thought away as I waited for his answer.

"Not really, but there are times when I must invest in expensive paints or canvases," I replied with a smile. "None of my needs are really extravagant. Give me paper and charcoal and I'll be content."

I smiled softly, feeling as if I were understanding him a little more. "That's a wonderful way to live," I said quietly, letting my gaze wander the room before coming back to him. "I hate to admit it, but I wish I were a little more like it."

"I am, of course," I replied smoothly. "And I do enjoy all the events and fetes, though there are times that the pomp and circumstance gets to be a little too much." I paused, then shook my head. "I'm sorry - I shouldn't be speaking of it anyway."
I looked over towards the countertops. "What's the most intricate design you've ever worked on?" I asked, trying to turn converation back to a more light-hearted one.

"There was a man once who wanted the entire story of Elua's life done in scenes all over his body. That was something that required a lot of focus to have it come out right," I answered. "Some of the most intricate are the smallest ones though, where any mistake ruins the whole thing."
I gestured upstairs. "Would you care for a cup of tea or even just to see the rest of the place?"

"That sounds fascinating. It must have near covered his body, I would think, depending on how many scenes were decided upon."
I straightened my posture and ceansed leaning my hip on the table, my hands unconsciously stroking down the cloth of my skirts. "Of course," I responded, smiling at him. "A cup of tea would be lovely."

"Right this way," I said, leading her upstairs. "And they did cover most of his body. Everything that didn't show when fully dressed in fact. By the time we were done he had more ink in his skin than a single House of the Night Court."

I shuddered as I followed him up, my fingers daintly picking up my skirts so I didn't trip over them. "Gods, wouldn't that hurt? Or do you suppose he became numb to the pain after a while?"
I paused, having a second thought. "Do you have any tattoos yourself, Darien?"

I shook my head as we reached the top of the stairs and I stepped to the side so she could join me.
"No, the only man I would let work on me no long practices that part of the business," I told her as I went to stoke the fire and put the kettle on.

"How unfortunate," I said as I came off of the stairs, glancing around me and taking the room in. "Do you know what you would have gotten, if you ever had the chance?"

"A ring of black with my sister's name worked into it and the center filled with every color ever dreamed of," I answered with a smile as I hooked the kettle over the fire. "On my chest, right over my heart."

A sound of pleasure came from me at his words, and I smiled, watching him humbly tend to the kettle. "That is absolutely endearing, Darien. She must have been very special."
Have been, indeed; the way he spoke of her left little room for anything other than a fond memory.

"She is," I said, my smile growing a bit wistful as I thought of my sister. "The thought of leaving her almost kept me from going to Eglantine. My parents said it was just because we are twins that we were so close, and that the separation would do us good. It was like leaving a piece of my soul, and it's never been the same since."

"Do you see her often?" I asked quietly, standing comfortably near the door that we'd traveled through. Darien seemed relaxed enough that I didn't think he'd take offense if I seated myself, but I was happy enough where I was for the moment. "No matter if it was good for you two or no, it sounds painful to be seperated as such."

"Occasionally, but not as often as I'd like." I stood and went to the little kitchen area, searching for the tins of tea.
"I have mint, clover, and cinnamon," I told her. "Which would you like?"

"Mint, please," I responded pleasantly, smiling as I did it. What would it be like to live as he did, above your workshop, in something this small. I was unused to it, and the idea fascinated me. I walked to the fireplace and lowered my hands, warming them over the gentle flames.

I placed tea, mint for her cinnamon for me, in infusers and readied our cups.
"You know more about me than I know about you," I said with a bit of a tease. "Tell me about your family."

"My family?" I asked, a bit surprised. We'd been chatting on his life and involvements for long enough that it hadn't even occurred to talk about my own. I glanced at him, still standing by the fire and warming my hands. If I were alone, I'd have lifted my skirts and warmed my calves as well. "Well, I'm the second oldest of four children, and also the only girl. Gratien is level headed, whipsmart and intelligent, Pierre is the youngest, softer than the other two, more quiet and always thinking, and Reese." I paused, shaking my head. "He has a good heart, but sometimes it's hard to see it through everything. I love them all dearly though. I guess you could say I'm fiercely loyal."

The names she mentioned sounded vaguely familiar, but not enough so for me to really know anyone she was speaking of.
"Being fiercely loyal to your family is a good thing, is it not?" I asked with a smile as I moved back to the fire. The water was hot and I carefully reached around her to take it from the fire then brought it back and filled the cups.

"It is," I agreed, moving out of the way as he reached around to take the water. I stepped over to the table where he was at, waiting casually, giving him plenty of room so he didn't have to worry about bumping into me with it. "I'd like to say it's part of our family name, but there's some in our family that aren't necessarily the same as the others." I shrugged, prattling on easily. Darien was laid back, nice to talk to. "But then again, there's always some in every family, isn't there?"
