As per Mirsada's expectations and her missive, I returned to her shop two days later. It was a slight overcast day, a little after mid day, and seemingly warm for the time of year. I thought it good to wear my new coal black jerkin over another white cotton shirt. With my sword, always at my side, and a satchel of some fifteen scrolls of various subjects, I walked into the shop, eager to make a good sale, and get myself on stable footing.
I peered around, "Lady Azenka, are you here?"

I stepped out from the back, smiling at Tabien.
"Hello," I said. "And welcome back."

"Greetings Mirsada." I was a bit giddy it seems. I slung my satchel from my back, and held it under my arm. "So, what have you found?"

Right to business, good man.
"Well, I had the scroll translated," I said, withdrawing it from the case in which I'd kept it. "And it is as you've said." I didn't tell him the rest of what I'd found out, but he might already know. "As I said before, I might be interested in it depending on what you are willing to accept for it. Did you have a final price in mind?"

Ok, let' see, I can't sell myself short. "I guess this is the haggling part. Hmm, well, I have about fifteen scrolls, of various age, and quality." I smirked. "That one I selected because it is a bit newer, so" I paused and scanned the ceiling. "3000 ducats seems a fair estimate." I turned back and leveled a solid gaze at her.

Only my years of business dealings kept my face neutral at his price. Surly he must be joking.
"For the one? Or for all 15?" I asked, my voice not showing my surprise either. He must mean for all of them.

"For all of these of course." I laughed. 3000 a piece would be a kings ransom surely. "Please, I'm not that greedy," I caught my breath.

"Ah," I said, a bit relieved though that didn't show either. "I must have misunderstood when we signed the contract the other day. I was under the impression the deal was for the one scroll. I will have to have the others looked at as well before I can purchase them." It wasn't that I didn't trust him, but there was no room for such things one way or the other in good business practices.

"Oh." Hmm, this might take awhile. The sooner I could get a reserve, the sooner I could think of moving into the city. "Does this mean I'll have to sell them one at a time, it could mean a lot of visits."
I thought about return visits to the shop. She was good company, that was for sure.

"No, if you'd like we can settle up on the first scroll now and I can arrange for my appraiser to come here to look at them all at once. That way we could deal for the rest in one visit. How does that sound?" I purposed.

"Hmm, alright that seems fine." I gave her a comical smile "Let the haggling begin."

"Well," I said, smiling as well. "I can give you 60 more for this one, making a total of 200 ducats."

"Really, perhaps a total of 250 ducats for that one." I patted my satchel. "Unless you can find one better in here?"

"Since I don't know how this compares to the others, I don't know if I could find better or not," I replied, smiling. I remembered how he'd said he needed money to stay in the city, the fact did not escape me. "If you would rather wait to finish the deal on this one until I can have them all looked at, that's alright with me."

I shrugged, "Very well. If I may ask, do you know who's buying? It'd give me peace of mind to know they are well taken care of."

"They are for me," I told him. "Some may go to my father in Illyria, but they will stay in my family."

"Do you usually buy for your own collections, or trade?" I asked, following her to complete the transaction.

"It depends on the items," I said, smiling. "So you want to deal on them as a set, that is what you've said, yes? When will you be free to come back and have them all looked at?"

"I could, though I'm free right now. I have few contacts int he city at the moment, and lots of time to occupy." I said, signing my name like before. I was becoming more satisfied with this arrangement, despite the waiting process.

"Tomorrow then if that's alright, in the morning. My contact was coming here anyway to deliver something to me so I think that will work well."

"Alright, tomorrow morning it is." I returned my satchel to my back.
"So, I set my price at 300, your counter offer?" I clasped my hands together patiently. I needed to make a good sale with this one. I felt it would set the trend for the whole lot. A perfect time to be aggressive.

I noticed his price had risen from 250 ducats to 300.
"Well, my first offer was 200, so say 225?"

The battle of wits has begun. "225?! I'll need a little more than that. After all, these are original copies. I had hoped that you had paid me half before. 280." I took to the argument with the best of my logic.

"What I offered you before was based on what I thought I could sell the item for. I am not planning on selling now, but keeping them in goods hands as you hoped." I smiled, gods I loved this part. "Besides, there is no way for me to know that these are the originals and not copies of the originals safely back in Ch'n. 240"

"Ah, if you are are truly interested in keeping them for your own collection, and caring for them as you say, then money should be well spent." Oh, I knew she was toying with me. "And you can clearly tell that they are written on rice paper, how many records have you seen like that. 275."

"In Ch'n most all records are kept on rice paper," I replied. "250 and if I do end up purchasing the rest as well, I'll give you the additional 25 then."

"But if you don't, I'll be out of funds, and you with my treasures." It was fair, but there was some fun to be had in the argument. I kept my tone light. "How many people do you know with access to rice paper, do you make me out for a cheap con-artist? 260."

"In my line of work, I know quite a few with access like that," I told him, smiling. "255"

"Oh, and what does your line of work consist of anyways," I questioned. As an absent minded thought, I forgot to add the price. "255."

I wondered if he realized that's what I'd just offered.
"Imports and exports," I answered. "And 255 it is."
I took out the contract and began to fill in the additional amount.
