I was dressed in red velvet with fine gold embroidery, my boots black and as I strode down the hall way the heals clicked in confidence.
"Is every thing ready Amelie?" I asked our head serving maid.
"Just about Prince Gratien, the tables had been set and the starters are just about ready." She explained.
"Excellent," I pronounced smiling. "We just need the guest." I said smiling.
"Would you make sure that theres plent of wine and champagne in the lounge, and when the Duchesse de Montegue arrives please bring her there." She nodded and I turned heading toward our lavish sitting lounge. Finding a glass and filling it with a crisp white wine I sat into one of our plush sitting chairs.

I held my cloak close as I stepped out of the carriage, the evening air not yet having summer's warmth. I was ushered quickly inside the De Somerville's residence (something I appreciated), divested of my cloak, and shown into the lounge.
Gratien was already there. "Cousin." I said with a smile, nonetheless dropping into the appropriate curtsy.

I could hear the household staff down stairs busily preparing for tonight's dinner. I threw one gown after another onto my bed. Nothing suited my mood. I finally settled on a burgundy satin gown with a simple black trim. The dress was simple, fitted, and elegant. Once I had selected my dress, Claire fussed over styling my hair. She was accustomed to the task and could work wonders in a matter of minutes. Ten minutes later, with my hair neatly in place, I made my appearance at the top of the stairs. I walked gracefully down the stairs and made my way to the lounge.

Dressed in a shirt of blue cambric and leather breeches, I made my way down to the parlor. Juliette was already there, so I waited for Gratien to finish geeting her before greeting her myself.

I smiled seeing Juliette and rose giving my own bow to her curtsy.
"Juliette, you look wonderful." I said walking toward her and taking her hand I placed a kiss on the back of it. "I'm so glad you're here."

I smiled at my brothers and Juliette as I entered the lounge. Gratien gave his greeting to Juliette. I stood next to Pierre and waited my turn to say hello. I tried not to fidget with my dress sleeves.

"It was a pleasure to be invited." I replied with a smile, the skin on the back of my hand tingling even through the fabric. Turning my attention to the others, I curtsied again. "Pierre, Azabel, it's so good to see you again."

Approaching Juliette, I took her hand and bowed over it, kissing it lightly. "Likewise," I said, stepping back.

Another kiss sent a zing of sensation up my arm. Definitely wasn't used to this. But I smiled at him then shifted my attention to his sister, the grace that had been drilled into me finally being used. "Azabel, I didn't know you had returned to the City."

I curtsied to Juliette and smiled warmly. "Well my dear, I have not been back in the city for long. This move is permanent, I hope. Don't you look lovely this evening?"

Gods I hate pet names. But I didn't let it show, since it was clear Azabel wasn't trying to be condescending. "Thank you," I accepted her compliment with a small smile and let true warmth enter in my voice. "This is quite a lovely surprise, it really has been too long since I've seen you." We shared a lot in common, both into our books.

I smiled watching the back and forth between then turned to the three of them.
"Well, lets take this into the dinning room shall we?" I asked walking up behind Juliette and placing a hand at her back gently.
"I'm sure dinner is ready by now."

His hand on my back warmed me perhaps more than it should as I let him guide me to the dinning room. "It certainly smells good." I said, then mentally smacked myself for such an inane and cookie-cutter comment.

I kept my pace infront of Juliette but kept my hands behind my back as the four of us entered into the dinning room.
"I don't think that Maurice will be joining us this evening." I replied as servers pulled out the chairs for us to sit. I gestured for Juliette to take a seat and I sat at the head of the table with her to my right.
"I hope you don't mind Juliette?" I asked.

"Of course not." I replied easily as we sat. "Knowing Reese, I'm sure he has pressing matters elsewhere." I was slightly amused and more than slightly relieved. Reese took great pleasure in teasing me.

I resisted snorting at Juliette and Gratien's exchange, and instead took a seat next to Juliette. It was no secret that I disapproved of Reese's extracurriculars, but I didn't think it was appropraite for the dinner table.

I smiled to Juliette was a soft chuckle. "Yes, he does find himself busy on more then one occasion." I replied as our first course was brought to out plates.

It was rather early when I arrived back at the townhouse. But I'd made a profitable evening and didn't feel like pushing my luck any farther. Even though the two gorgeous offerings to Fortuna I'd wiled away the afternoon with should have kept me in luck for weeks, I didn't want to tempt the gods to take back the tidy sum I'd won. Still there was something I had to be back for... peste! The diner with the sibs and Juliette.
I was not looking the most elegant when I slipped into the dining room and saw them all seated. I heard just enough of the conversation to know they were discussing me. Fine, I had no shame.
"Yes, well I seemed to press both of their 'matters' in less time than I thought." I gave them a half bow and a charming smile before finding my usual place, and indolently sprawling there. "Brothers, Aza, Cousin, do forgive me for being late."

I smothered a giggle at the look on Pierre's face, thoughts of his brother painted vividly on his features.
My father would have been so proud as I actually managed to smile at Reese's enterance. "Of course. I'm just glad you could join us." I lied through my teeth, then dared a jab back. "I do hope you didn't have to press too hard. I'd hate to hear you strained yourself." I met his eyes with an impish smile that might have passed off as innocent in any other context.

I almost rolled my eyes at Pierre, but refrained. This was not the usual family dinner where I could egg my younger brother into a fight. We had company. Delightful company. I'd never seen Juliette so bold and didn't bother to hide my laugh.
"You look so fetching when you lie Juliette, you must try to do it more often. But you can rest easy, I am hale and hearty after my misadventures." I thanked the servant who brought me a setting and food to go with it. " And I am aware my company was unexpected, and I promise, I'll try to behave and inflict myself on you all as little as possible."

I leaned forward and tented my fingers, I chuckled at Juliette's jab but was slightly sobbered by Reese's comment afterward. Something about his nature in this matter irrked me and I had little respect for Reese's teasing.
"Well, that settled we should enjoy our meal." I commented smiling.

I smiled as my unconventional brother entered the room. Ah Elua. Part of me ached for him to change and live a happy trouble free life. The other half of me secretly cheered him on. He should Love as thou Wilt and that should include Love as thou Live. What is the point in life if one is not happy? Eh well, these were not matters for the dinner table.
I smiled at Reese, "I am glad you could join us this evening brother. You are family, I am always glad to see you."

"Bella Mia, I am am glad you finally came to your senses and joined us where the fun is. Whatever pried you away from your books, thank Elua for it." I took a judicious sip of wine and ate a few bites of food before remembering something.
"Coretta was asking about you, bit back. Almost forgot. Her high and mightiness would love a visit and said as much, what was it? On Longest Night? Or midwinter? Think it was Longest Night."

"Longest Night, I believe." I replied, in between bites. "Just before Reese stole Raegan away for a dance." I left out the fact that neither had been seen for quite a time after. Other that Pierre's obvious dislike for his brother's antincs, something told me that Gratien didn't aprove either. I smiled at Azabel, to let her know that her presence in the City was indeed a treat.

I too looked at Reese. He was a notorious heartbreaker, and I could only imagine what poor Raegan had gone through after being swept away by him.

It was on the tip of my tongue to respond for Reese, but the looks his brothers gave him were a little too intense, and I decided to stay out of it. Instead, I took another bite.

I looked at my brothers a little blankly, rolling the name over in my head. Reagan. Oh yes, the sweet lady from the party, thighs like silk.
"She was most charming, and a lovely dancer." hmm, with wide doe eyes and sharp little nails digging into me as I pressed into her. I took a slow sip of wine and kept up a nonchalant front, returning my brother's glares with ease. A gentleman doesn't tell of his conquests, and even though I was no gentleman, I'd not give the two of them an excuse to tear into me again about my activities. The same song and dance got old after a while.
"You really did miss a smashing party Aza."
