I reached a hand over and covered Dine's in an act of care. I hoped that she wouldn't find out he was dead.

I had not heard the Captain's first name, but the last name matched. "That does sound like the same man that I know." I said, "He is very much alive and doing well. About 5 months ago he picked up a delivery from me for Tiberium. It was a rather large delivery so I am sure he was paid well for it."

I gaped, grasping Aaliyah’s hand tight. 5 months. In the worlds of sailors, it was but a breath intake, but in my world, it was nothing. It was just a little before Longest Night. Just a little before Aramis. Just a little before… before so many things.
5 months.
My mind raced. I wondered. Why did he not come for me, if he was alive, still? Did he know I was still alive? I couldn’t help but wonder.
I looked at Aaliyah, and let my indecision creep out of my gaze, but soon it turned to Lord de Fournier. “My Lord, that would be most fascinating, if it were my father. Most… fortunate, indeed.”
It took me another moment to fathom one of the million questions that plagued my mind, and I stammered, “But was he…” the only thing I could think of was his own eyes, “were his eyes like mine?”

Dine's reaction was paramount and I was both happy and worried for her at the same time. I was only worried that he would would not be the right man and that she would be disappointed. I hoped more than anything that he would be.
I squeezed her hand back, just a little but to show that I cared and I was here. I tried to look confident but I was not sure how confident I was. I did not really have experience with these things. My own family was pretty much lost ot me and I had not bothered to seek them out. I remembered enough to know that my grandma did not want me around so I accepted it and moved on.

I noticed the care that Aaliyah gave Geraldine and there was no doubt that the two girls were close. Sometimes it seemed that people did not care for each other enough and it was refreshing to see.
I looked at Geraldine's eyes and tried to remember the Captain's. In truth I did not often pay attention to the eyes of another man. There was no doubt that my words would weigh heavily on the girl so I took my time, habitually taping my fingers on the table as I did.
When I felt my memory was serving me correctly I said, "I can not honestly say rather or not his were the exact same color, but they were green." I glanced over at Aaliyah's eyes, which were green also but they did not help my memory. Though I did note with interest that hers seemed to match Geraldine's.

So it could be him. Or not. I sighed, and gave both my friend, and the kind stranger at our table, a smile.
“I’m most grateful for your kindness, sir,” I told him gently. “Thanks to you, I have hope of a resolution to this longstanding riddle. Is there anything I can do, to show you my gratitude?”

I nodded a no as I gave her a kind smile, "all I did was relay information. It doe snot require any payment. I only hope it was of some use." I rested my head on my hand for a moment as I tried to think of something more that could be useful. I did not have any new information but an ideal did form in my head.
I sat up as I spoke, "you are at Heliotrope correct? If you like I could always guide the Captain to your House when I do see him again. I don't anticipate it being any time soon, but I expect him to return at some point in the future for a new shipment."

As they spoke I suddenly remembered my night with Vincent. Though we had spoke of it earlier I had thought of our time together more so than his words. I was waiting with someone for a ship, maybe the Captain is Dine's father and we were waiting for him together. I would most certainty be there for her if she was to meet him and I did not doubt that she would ask for me to support her.
I was all of a sudden excited to tell her about it, but I did not want to do so in front of our guest. If anything, I was not contracted to Vincent and would not risk getting him into trouble. I knew I could trust Dine but I did not know him.

My gaze flickered to Aaliyah, and something in her eyes had changed, she seemed antsy, or excited about something. “It’s all very incredible, isn’t it?” I told her. “I’m elated, but…” I wanted to ask what she was fretting about, but I couldn’t quite do so with our guest. I would have to wait.
Turning back to him, I replied, “I think I would like that. If he is my father, he will know my name. It was his mother’s, after all…” I gave the man a kind smile, and added, “I can’t thank you enough for your kindness, My Lord de Fournier.” A thought came to mind, and I added, smiling, “I’d like to send you… some saplings from a scented patch I tend at Heliotrope. It’s not a big deal, but just a little something to show my gratitude…”

I smiled kindly at Geraldine's offer. Though I did not require any payment, I understood the need to give it. Keeping some contact with her would benefit as well, in case the Captain did come back around. I did not know if she was planning on leaving Heliotrope any time soon, but it would be good to know.
"I would be greatful if you did," I told her, "though I would not require it. I will be sure to keep your name at the top of my mind so that I may tell the Captain the next time he must pick up some wine from me."

“Will do, My Lord. To which House should I send them, then? To House de Fournier, is that correct?” I smiled brightly. I did rather like to prepare those, and I would very much enjoy delivering them.
My gaze went to Aaliyah. That reminded me that I hadn’t mentioned Violette to her. I would, later, if I had an occasion to do so.

I nodded a yes, "My house does carry the name Fournier, it is a townhouse of sorts and in that district."
I noticed that the redheaded adept seemed to have something to say and she was distracting Geraldine with it. Since she had not said it yet I assumed that it had to do with my prsence. I did not want to hold them up any longer and I didn't have any new information to pass.
So, I smiled at them both, my meal finished, and said, "I think you for lending ear, if you have no more questions I will take my leave and let you two eat lunch in peace."

I knew that Dine had noticed my excitement, though I still managed to contain it for the time being. Rannan bid his due and I stood up, unthinking, and smiled. "Thank you for lunch and the interesting conversation," I said. I then blushed, acting in impulse and sat back down. For some reason the more exotic looking men got to me more so than you everday d'Angeline.

I couldn't repress an amused chuckle as Aaliyah rose impetuously, almost shoving the helpful (and handsome) peer away from the table, though I rose as well, giving him an elegant curtsy. "Your help was much appreciated," I said with as much dignity as I could muster, though my eyes were warm with gratitude. T'is a strange thing to be an Heliotrope, for we are groomed to be the wives of peers, and this have the dignity of the Dahlia, without their haughtiness, I like to think. Dignity, elegance, and warmth, really, would be the description of the Heliotrope adept.
"and your company most pleasant, My Lord. I will send the sapplings shortly," I added, much as one keeps a promise to a friend. My curtsy done, I waited, wanting to be as courteous as I could as he took his leave.

I rose as the two girls did and held back a small laugh at the bubbly redhead's method of saying goodbye. I wasn't sure if she was quick to have me gone or simply like that all the time. If she was I could see her doing well at Orchis as well.
I bowed respectfully to both and to Geraldine said, "I will look forward to your gift and I hope to see the both of you around Mont Nuit. I enjoyed my dinner," and with a smile toward Aaliyah, "your elegant dismissal."

I blushed a little at Rannan's remark but smiled, "I hope you do not think I wish to chase you away." I looked at Dine and gave her a knowning smile before returning my attention to Rannan and adding, "I tend to be a bit of a eccentric artist at times."

“That, she does,” I replied to the peer, giving my friend a small accomplice wink. “You are the spice of life, that’s what. If you weren’t there to be a bit on the wild side, my life would be a long series of drab events,” I teased. Well, I had my own adventures, but Aaliyah always made me laugh – she added color to the shape of my days.
“Surely, you have business to attend, My Lord,” I added gently, offering him a way out if he needed it.

I bowed again in mutual respect and made my leave. I would not hold them up any longer. I had no doubt the two girls had plenty they would want to say to each other.
"I think you for the wonderful lunch and I hope to see the two of you around."'
With that I smiled and headed out the door. Maybe I would get lucky and return home to find out I indeed had a future delivery from the Capt.

I smiled as Lord de Fournier left us, and turned to Aalliyah. “Charming fellow, that one,” I said after he was out of earshot. “No doubt you’d take him for a patron if you could, huh?” I added, grinning wide. I opted to tease her, and jabbed a silly pleasantry, “Or maybe you did already? Is that what made you fidget like a hungry kitty?”

I watched as Rannan left, he was pleasant conversation and pleasant to look at, but what I wanted to reveal to Dine was burning a hole in me and I was afraid if I didn't tell her soon she would see my ears start to smolder.
I giggled at Dine's comment and with a smile I said, "I have not had him as a patron, but you are correct in that I would do so happily if he visited."
I then got to business, raising my chest a little and clapping my hands slightly in my habit that some found annoying. "I do have something interesting to tell you though, it might have to do with your father the Captain."

I giggled with her, though I actually felt like laughing even more wildly for the look on her face and her little clap. She looked like she was about to explode.
Her dramatic announcement, though, made me spring to attention – if I were a cat (well, I’d been compared to one before) – if I were a cat, my ears would have pricked up in attention. As it were, it was my eyebrows that did, my mouth making a little o of surprise.
“Is that so? Well do tell, what are you waiting for?” I said, chuckling still for my gall, leaning over the table in earnest anticipation.

Dine felt my excitement and her response only assisted my own. With a tiny bit of control, at least keeping myself from talking a million words a minuet I said, "Well, you know I spent an evening with Vincent who is from Gentian. After we had our time together we fell asleep and he had a dream. He said he saw me with another girl standing on a dock watching a boat sail in. He said that I was happy in the dream." I paused for a moment and then said, "maybe it was your father's ship and it was you I was with. I could be happy because I was happy for you and you were about to meet your father."

A Gentian’s dream. Intriguing, and strange.
“So, Vincent dreamt of you, on a pier, with another girl, watching a ship make its landing,” I repeated, tapping my lips pensively. “But we could never go to Marsilikos, you and I. We aren’t anywhere close to free…”
I paused. I was much too reasonable, at times. “It would be wonderful, though. I’d sooner you be there, for sure, if I am ever to meet see my father again.”

I shrugged slightly, I had not really even made a thought toward any needed traveling or anything like that. "It could have just been a symbol, the ship, we may not have to literally see one. The ship may just stand for your father."

I nodded. I'd never been much one for books, or for symbols. "That's possible," I replied, thinking. "A prophecy, then, that he may yet come forth, and that you will be at my side when it happens."
I pondered, smiling. "I guess the Gentian's dreams are of interest - if anything, it is heartening. Did he give you any more details?"

I nodded, "he did seem to stress that it was a good dream, which he does not seem to have often." I paused for a moment and then said with a bright twinkle in my eye, "oh Dine I hope it is you standing next to me. If anything unusual and happy should happen to me or anyone I know I would want you to be with me or that person." My sentence came out as one long rambled stream, but it was an honest one.

I smiled wistfully, reaching out to take her hand. “I hope so too, Aaliyah. There is no-one I’d rather share this with. You’re the only family I have, you know,” I told her softly. “I don’t think I could bear it if something happened to you.”
The thought wasn’t a pleasant one to entertain, and so I pushed it away, and attempted for a subject change, or at least, another tangent. “So he doesn’t usually dream of pleasant things, your friend Vincent, is that right?”

I squeezed Dine's hand when she mentioned that she didn't want anything to happen to me. I obviously felt the same about her, but I felt she knew and I didn't want to bring down the mood. So, instead with my squeeze I smiled and said, "don't worry, I won't leave you. I have to much energy to go anywhere." I winked at the little joke on myself.
I nodded when she asked about Vincent, "that is what he said, so it must be something special to change the way his dreams usually lay." I shrugged and then added, "at least I shoudln't have to worry about anything bad happening in the near future.

I chuckled at her comment on her own level of energy. Sometimes, she reminded me of those gum balls one sometimes gave the children to play, those that bounced around wildly. That was true enough, and it was amusing, because I sometimes felt that she was infectious in her energy. It did me good, to be around her.
"That's true enough," I replied with a smile. "We'll have to see what comes of it all, then, won't we?" I took a moment to have another bite of the meal, and added, "Do you think you will see him again?"

I thought about it for a minuet. Vincent had mentioned the opium rooms and I had a feeling he would enjoy my joining him one of these days. "I have a feeling I will," I told Dine with a smile, "I would like to know a little more about him, he is a interesting person." I thought for a brief moment and then added with a slightly sheepish smile, 'and he would make a good painting."
