I walked into the Desire with Dine and looked around. It was already picking up pace with the ever popular adept luncheons. I had heard the food was good and was more than happy to try some.
"Is there any place you would like to sit?" I asked Dine a obvious smile on my face. It had been a while since we'd be out and I was itching to catch up on gossip and what she had been doing these last few weeks.

I walked into Desire and looked around. There were a large number of adepts and one could not help but to smile at the sight. I maintained my dignity however and turned my attentions to the barkeep.
"I need to see the manager please and I'll take some wine as well." I waited while both of my orders were fulfilled. I drank my wine as the manger showed up. I then walked with him out back were a carriage awaited with a few crates of some well aged wine. The Desire was a regular customer and one of the few that I visited in person on a regular basis.

“Anywhere you like,” I replied with a happy smile. A bustle of waiters passed us, and behind us more people came, “but we have to make up our mind quick, or we’ll be eating at the bar, or standing up,” I jested.
I looked about the room, and there was a quiet table at the back. Nearby, a man was talking – not an adept, rather a peer, of foreign blood mayhap. “What ‘bout that one?” I said, pointing enthusiastically at my find.

I looked to where Dine indicated and nodded happily with my approval. "That one looks splendid!" I said. In truth I would be happy with anything that wasn't standing up or perhaps by someone with a foul odor about them.
I walked over to the table with Dine and took a seat. The wait staff was surprisingly quick and someone was soon here to take our order. Since it was Desire, and I do not eat here often I decided to let the money bag loose for a day and order the special. I also ordered a glass of wine to go with it, again ordering the day's special and suggested drink with the meal.

Deftly, I placed my order, trying to be as reasonable as I could with a light meal and no wine. I had been blessed with a few assignations, but it wasn't so I could squander it on food. I wanted that marque of mine done, so Eddie and I could be free. No, so I could be free, regardless of who it was to be with, though the Camellia did have my preference for now.
After the girl had gone, I looked back to Aaliyah, and smiled. "I'm so glad to see you," I told her enthusiastically. "It's been a while, really. How did your night end with..." I paused, not remembering, "with Lord what is it that you seek?" I said, imitating an ominous oracle in jest.

I couldn't help the giggle that escaped at Dine's impression of Vincent. "His name is Vincent, and our night went very well," I said with a big smile. I then added, "he is actually a very patient and passionate lover." I then asked the obvious question that needed an answer, "and your night?"

I laughed good heartedly with Aaliyah, smiling for her account. "Well, that's good," I replied at her description of her night with him. "I would have half-expected him to break in a trance, to be honest," I added gleefully.
I paused, wondering at what I wanted to tell her about Eddie. "And he was wonderful, his name is Edwyn - of Camellia. He was... well, we got on very well," I said, not wanting to mention that embarrassing start he and I had.

"That is good to hear," I said with a smile both on my face and in my voice. "Are there any other interesting things or interesting persons in your life?"

Interesting… “Eddie was very, very interesting, in fact. We did see each other again, after that, you know,” I told her. “And he asked me to the Parrot, sometime after the wedding…” that in itself was interesting. It was the first time an other adept took that kind of interest in me – and it was reciprocated, as maddening as it was.
“And I had breakfast with Christophe, do you remember him, the Valerian adept, from the Coronation?” I said with a smile. “I was glad to see him again. He is a good man,” I said with sincere esteem.

Things seemed to be going well for Dine and I was truly happy for her. "I somewhat remember Christophe." I thought back to the Coronation and the woman who was his companion. "I remember the Shahrazi who was with him as well. She was pretty but she sent chills up my spine," I admitted though without any note of being bothered in my voice. In truth I hardly stayed bothered about anything for long.

I chuckled. “Yes, she is very predatory, this Malabelle,” I replied with a grin. “But Christophe seems genuinely happy… I think. He left his house, you know....” I wasn’t sure to what extent his wedding plans and everything else was yet to be made public – I wasn’t sure either of how happy he was. But as much as I marketed freely my own secrets, I kept my friends’ under lock and key, unless it was clear that I could divulge. Aaliyah was smart enough to put two and two together, without me having to spell it out – he’d left his house for Mala, of course.
“That reminds me, I had another Kusheline patron, you know,” I added a little evenly. “One of the best I’ve ever had. Proves to say they aren’t all that scary… ”

I raised my brows when she mentioned Christophe leaving his house. If he left than it means someone bought his marque. That was most likely the lady he was with. "I hope that he is happy then," I said with my usual good will toward others.
Dine's mention of her Kusheline patron was most interesting though. "Really?" I asked, then with a encouraging smile I said, "do tell."

"He had a perfect understanding of Heliotrope," I replied with a smile. "Well, not at first, but he came to it soon enough. He did stir my lust, and he did have some measure of skill. He was fetching," I said, thinking. "And informative as well..." and with that, I let my mind float to the revelations. They were sinking in - and more and more, I was coming to terms with them.

I nodded at Dine's words. "All of your good experiences almost make me think I have been ignoring some interesting play," I said with a smile. "Though," a little in thought but out loud, "I still can't really seem me enjoying the ideal of being tied up or some of the other things they are known for."
I had a million questions, while some things were usually left unsaid, things I would not ask, there were others I could rightfully say. "I am curious a little as too who they were, not a name, but was it a Mandrake? You also must tell me what was said!"

I laughed lightly. "Oh, he didn't tie me up," I told her. "He was just a little more domineering than perhaps we are used to, and very, very passionate." I paused, sparing a warm thought for Tabien a moment - he had been a lovely person to spend some time with. "And not a mandrake, just a man of Kusheline descent, a peer, a traveller," I told her. I paused, savoring the suspense a moment, and said, excitedly, "He had news of my father, Aaliyah. I still can't believe it. How mad, isn't it?"

I finished my transactions with the owner of the cafe and then made my way to an empty table to enjoy some lunch. I was served with soup, bread, and a drink that I didn't produce. I enjoyed the free meal as looked around the cafe, seeing if there was anyone I wanted to chat with.

"He told me several things, but the gist of it is that my father was still alive 3 years after I was taken in by Heliotrope, and that he was Captain of his ship," I said thoughtfully. "It was the same ship, still, the Nouvelle Esperance." I chuckled, recollecting his description of him. "The sailors would always say that it was Grangier's business. He kept to himself it seemed. He looked a bit weary, but hale if I can remember."

I heard a familiar ship mentioned behind me and I turned to look and see who was speaking about it. I saw two adepts, one a redhead and the other a brunette. The one with the brown hair is who spoke of the vessel.
"Excuse me," I said, still in my seat but turned to face them and speaking just loud enough that they would hear. I would not invite myself without their permission. "I could not help but to overhear, do you know someone who works on the Nouvelle Esperance."

Before I could say much more a man spoke to Dine. I looked behind her to see a Yeshuite looking man. He was very hansom and I smiled at him, but waited and let Dine speak with him. After all I had just heard of the boat myself.

There was a man, a Foreigner, likely, who turned to talk, and with flawless courtesy, entered the conversation. I raised an eyebrow at Aaliyah, wondering what in the world that was about. But he had a good air about him, and so I obliged.
"My Father was a sailor on that ship for many years, M'Lord," I replied with a gentle smile. "But I've not heard of him since I was a little girl, and so I couldn't tell you more. I heard only recently that he was, at least nine years ago, promoted to captain."
He seemed harmless enough - he had the look of a good man, one who did all things in earnest. And so that in mind, I asked, "But pray tell, why do you ask?"

I raised my brows a little as the adept explained her connection to the vessel. "I hope I am not intruding to much but if you don't mind me joining you two I could tell you more about the Captain of the Nouvelle Esperance." I smiled and said, "I occasionally do business with him."

I looked at him, eyebrows nigh hitting the ceiling. "You do?" My lips were pursed into a little moue of surprise, and my gaze wandered to Aaliyah for a moment. Am I dreaming?
How conceivably possible was it for this kind of thing to happen? It had to be fated - that was all I could think of.
I took a moment to recover from the shock, and said, "Yes, of course, My Lord," ready to stand the moment he did.

I shrugged a little when Dine looked at me, I figured she was distracted anyways. It would be neat if this man did know about her father. Maybe she could visit him soon. If so I'd make an offer to go with her, provide moral support just in case.
I nodded my agreement that he could sit with us and waited for him to do so. I would sit and listen to find out what's happening.

I stood up and took my plate and glass over to the table with the two adepts. I did not want to seem like I was too rude of a man so after I sat myself down I made introductions. "My name is Rannan de Fournier, I own a vineyard outside of Eula. May I ask your two names?"

He sat, and I sat back, smiling pleasantly. "I am Geraldine, adept of Heliotrope House, and this is my good friend," I smiled at her affectionately, "my best friend, Aaliyah no Eglantine."
A vineyard. That sounded interesting - perhaps later, I would ask this Lord de Fournier about it. "It's a pleasure to meet you, My Lord," I added very politely, with just a little bit of natural warmth threaded in my voice.

I nodded at them both, Geraldine and Aaliyah. I put their names to memory.
"It is good to meet you both," I said. I had not heard much of the conversation, since I hadn't been listening until I had heard the name of the boat. If I hadn't recently sent a large amount of both wine and grapes with the vessel I probably would not have even tuned in to that.
"If I may ask, how do you know about the Nouvelle Esperance?"

So he hadn't been eaves dropping, not too much anyway. That was a commendable course of behavior, I thought.
"My father used to be a sailor, a while back," I explained. "I recently found out he eventually became captain of the ship, but that was nine years ago, and I do not know where he is now."
I paused, pushing away the slight pang of grief that hit me as I thought on it. "What of you, sir, what is your interest in this ship?"

I was a little surprised to hear of Geraldine's tale, though I didn't show it to overly much. I did not want the girl to think that I thought any less or ill of her for it. I knew what it was like to lose one's family and if I could help her get any of hers back I'd be more than willing.
"The Captain is occasionally in charge of some of my wine shipments. While most of my customers are close I have a couple who are not." I did not want to cause any false hopes so I asked, "are you sure that the Captain is your father?"

"His name is Francois Grangier," I replied. "And seeing as my most recent information is a rumor that dates 9 years back, I have no idea, M'Lord."
I paused, and took a sip of wine. Wistfully, I added, to Aaliyah more than to him, though I wasn't excluding him from the conversation, "for all I know, he may be dead, or doing somewhat else by now..."
