"Oh really?" I feigned interest, in hopes of a good laugh. I took her walking up the main road, not immediately aware it was toward the palace. "Fiction or Biography?" I accused.

"Fiction," I grinned at him as we walked. "Are you very surprised?"

"You always did have the active imagination." I didn't know what to do with my hands, so I clasped them beside me. I shifted the topic. "I suppose you had an errand you were meant to run today, weren't you?"

"Oh," I said softly. "Yes, I did."
Glancing up at the sky and the sun, I gave a soft sigh, reality beginning to come back. "I should probably return to the White Hart, actually, and collect my carriage."

"I'll accompany you at least that little ways, don't mind do you?" I looked for a moment, trying to remember the way to go. "This way I believe." I said with confidence.

I watched him out of the corner of my eye with a small, soft smile, wondering what he was thinking about everything. A part of me still couldn't believe I was strolling with Sabriel while another part couldn't forget the tears that had been shed. I nodded my head, my stride naturally altering to match his.
"I don't mind," I answered. "You're staying at the White Hart?"

"Not for long I hope." I was cut off from funds, and I seriously doubt I could just walk into the palace and claim a bed for myself. "I'm working things out, so I should be fine. Surprisingly, working for yourself without servants at your knee really keeps you sharp."
No doubt I could have said things to make her weep, or force her pity. But, I trusted Mirielle still at some level, so I held my tongue, and walked in silence after that.

"I should guess it would," I responded as pleasantly as I could, though I admit it was a strain. There was something in his demeanor that hinted at more, but he didn't speak on it, and it was not a subject that I could broach.
The White Hart came into view sooner than I had anticipated, and I was sorry to see it. "I just need to figure out which room is yours now, so I can begin getting you back for all those pranks you pulled on me when we were kids."

"Well, I don't imagine I'll be staying in it for too long. I have plans for a new residence, so I'll let you know if I move, alright?"
I'd thought about hiding out in the boarding houses in the west district. Hiding out, I was treating myself like a fugitive. Still, there was no way around it, cut off from any and all assets like that.

"Alright," I responded, smiling softly. I had to figure out still how to tell August I saw and spoke with Sabriel, but Sabriel was part of my past, too... I just didn't know how I was going to work it out.

I smiled a little, though I did note she took on a more placid face. Perhaps the sorrows of our discussion came back as we neared White Hart again. Makes one wonder if you can curse a place with emotional stress.

As we neared the front of the White Hart, I spoke to have my carriage retrieved, then turned back to Sabriel. "It was wonderful seeing you again, Sabby," I said quietly, adopting the name for the second time.

I sighed a guiltly, and gave her a soft smile. "You too Miri. Stay out of trouble." I asked. It sounded kind of odd, I suppose I wanted to say it, so she couldn't do the same to me.

"I am trouble, Sabriel," I said, flashing him a smile over my shoulder in a last-ditch attempt at parting on good terms. I could hear my carriage coming, and I checked a sigh before it could manifest.

I just smiled at her, and said nothing as the carriage pulled up. I wouldn't show any sorrow here, and tried my hardest to stand proud, and happy; despite any pain I might have felt.

He was silent and I could feel my smile wanting to slip away. I forceably kept it as it had been as my carriage settled before us. Turning to him fully, I looked at him quietly. "Miss you, Sabriel," I said softly, my voice just above a whisper.

"You too Mirielle, you too." I responded softly, holding my dignity. I waited till she entered the carriage, and started moving before I heaved a sigh. I was almost wondering if she'd pop her head out of that window, just to give me one last remark, and a good part of me hoped she did.
