I smiled her a little bit then, if to put her at ease. "I heard a saying once. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. I think that might be well applicable here. " I shrugged. "Or, I could be completely off.

I shrugged myself, a light movement of my shoulders. "No, you might possibly be right. I just want to be able to see things before I'm too old and grey to," I said, looking back up at him again with a smile. "You, though. I have a hard time imagining you as old and grey."

I chuckled at her comment of her being old and grey. "And what gives you that idea?" I asked, wondering why the same future wouldn't befall me. I always kind of figured I'd have some cruel fate visit me before the end myself.

I blushed lightly, shrugging again. "I just have a difficult time picturing you that way is all. You know, considering the fact that you are just a wee one, and so very much younger than me..." Tease came into my voice and I grinned a little.

"What are you talking about, I'm not that young anymore. And besides, how old are you now?" I almost started to list off numbers, but I think that she might just give me a dirty look for that.

I looked at him askance for a moment, wondering if he was playing with me or if he honestly didn't remember. "Well, I don't know," I said, flashing him a teasing smile. "How old are you?"

"Guess your still a little coy. Twenty-four last I checked. And I assume your on the same track as I last saw you. " I responded, showing I meant no rudeness.

"I like to think I've gotten a little younger..." I said, jestinly primping my hair, then gave in to a natural grin. "But yes, I'm still the same age as you as I was years ago."

"So, same as me then." I repeated, commenting with a sly little smile. "But you loved to lord that extra month or so before me as such much more wisdom, didn't you?"

I peeked up at him, looking at him from under the curve of my lashes. "It's not the month that does it, Sabriel," I said, teasing him. "I'm just naturally that way."

"Uhuh, you keep telling yourself that." I teased with a gentle shove. It seems that demon of a bad time hid itself for now, and I probably could admit we were both grateful.

I laughed as he pushed me; not very noble of either of us, but it was still in good fun. Straightening, I looked up at him with a grin. "I'd be careful. I'm stronger than I look, you know..."

"Of course you are, I made sure of that when we spent time playing. We can't have delicate flowers running through the fields to be blown away by the slightest sea faring wind, can we?"

I gave him an affronted look, my mouth opening up slightly. "Are you insinuating I don't resemble a delicate flower, Sabriel de Trevalion?" I asked, narrowing my eyes. I was playing, but I wasn't sure if he'd pick up on it.

"Yes, you resemble a proud and vibrant blossom, that dulls other flowers around it." I stated so matter of factly. It wasn't until after I finished I took a moment to realize what I said, and shifted my face accordingly. It had, after all become beat red, seeing as I practically gave her an overgenerous compliment.

"Still a tease, I see," I shot back at him, not taking his compliment to heart, but more as a return jest. "But you are right, you know," I added, fluffing my hair and trying rather unsuccessfully to hide my grin.

I breathed a sigh of relief. I was afraid another awkward silence would follow. "I try." I commented. We rounded the corner, and found ourselves at the main road. The slow trickle of the fountain caught my attention. I wandered over, peering at the reflection in the water.

I watched him curiously, wondering what he was about as he looked. I didn't intrude though, but stopped a few paces behind, watching the crows as much as I did him.

I starred for awhile, before the sound of the city took me out of a daze. "There's a fete soon, isn't there. Beltane? I remember one of the young lords talking about it the other day."

I nodded, looking back at him again. "Yes, there is," I said, wondering what he was getting at. "Are you planning on attending?"

"Perhaps." I said solemly. "I hear the dance takes place around a large bonfire. It sounded rather tribal." I said curiously.

I laughed, unable to help myself. "I highly doubt that's the sort we'll expect at a D'Angeline court. I hear there's a fair scheduled though in the future - mayhap there will be fire dancing there."

"Yes, of course," I said, smiling. "I couldn't pass up a chance to dress up, could I?"
I was kidding with that, the humor I felt in my eyes.

"I figured. I never asked, met any other nobles, made some new friends since you've arrived. Surely you haven't been cloistered in your town home all this time. I'd be worried if you were." I responded, pacing around the fountain idly.

I watched a tall, lanky man walk by, eyeing him as he gave me a jeering look. "No, I haven't," I responded to Sabriel as I drew myself up, frowning a little at the man and the gall he had to look at me as such. "I've made a few friends myself." And had another lover who left me when I told him I'd let August court me. It hurt still - it wasn't as if I couldn't have multiple courtiers, but Gillermo had made his decision... and after I'd gone through so much for him. I shook my head slightly to rid myself of the thoughts, and saw the jeering man pause midstep as he looked at me.

"A few." I noticed as I circled around, speaking louder to overcome the water, Mirielle was slightly distracted. "Surely your bubbly little personality hasn't kept you from becoming quite the popular little lady. Now, care to tell me again." I said again.

"Oh, if you insist," I said, looking away from the man and back to Sabriel with a dramatic sigh. "I've had to fight off hoards of suitors who flock my carriage and leave presents on my doorstep at the most indecent hours of the night, I have a group of women begging to spend time with me, and I've become one of the foremost trendsetters in the City."
I flashed him a bright smile, forceably ignoring the jeering man. "How's that?"

I walked over, grinning and glad she could entertain me. "Much better." I knew that perhaps she was exaggerating by an absurd length. But, sometimes saying something ridiculous would make us all feel better. And, it helped me hide the pain anyways.

"Thank you," I responded, feeling better with him near. The man left, disappearing into the crowds. I turned, looking back up at Sabriel again with a smile. "I forgot to mention that I've become an popular novelist as well," I added, blatantly joking this time.
