"I understand," I assured him, blushing and giving him a quick kiss on the cheek in sheer giddiness at his good opinion of me. "You mean that I hold myself to a high standard you can appreciate."

My skin burned from the touch of her lips. I thought I had made a faux pas, but she acted like I had given her the highest compliment. At least she didn't hate me. "Yes, that is right," I said, nodding my head in relief. I squeezed her hand softly.

He didn't seem terribly happy at the moment and I flushed a bit, squeezing his hand back. "More wine?" I asked with a smile, hoping to lighten his spirits again.

"No thank you," I said with a smile. "It is very wonderful but I am happy, no um, eager, that is it. Eager to see your kestral fly." I didn't lie, but I also didn't know how long it would be before I leaned forward and kissed her. The memory of her taste was still sweet.
Patience man, I told myself.

"Very well," I told him happily, then took the last sip and set my glass aside though I was almost reluctant to rise; I enjoyed flying my birds and seeing them free but I'd also adored the quiet time spent talking with him. "I have no doubt she is eager to fly too."

The bird might be eager to fly, but her mistress was not. To be perfectly honest, nothing would have pleased me more than spending the next day in this sitting room in her presence. But the idea of kissing her was growing in strength with each passing moment, and I did not want to disrespect her, so I made myself stand and offer her a hand to rise. "Let us go and hunt then," I said with a smile.

"Thank you," I replied with a bright smile, taking his hand softly as I rose and fighting the urge to move closer to him.

I kissed her hand softly once she was up and then tucked it under my arm. "You are more than welcome Lessa," I said with a smile as we started out of her sitting room.
