To Her Majesty Queen Coretta de la Courcel, from Your humble servant, Leandre de Guivre, Baron Citrine of Siovale
I am writing to you of a matter of grave import. A few days ago, my estate was set upon by an unknown garrison. Fortunately, this manor house from which I write to you now was equipped with a well-maintained and quite effective barbican, without which I daresay I and my household would be slaughtered.
That, however, is not the whole of it. The men I faced were not Skaldi, as I might have expected, but their stature and the make of their armor suggests men of Carthage, or, at the very least, men who who wear armor of Carthaginian make. Several persons of good character who witnessed the assault can testify that these were no Skaldi marauders we faced that day.
We managed to detain one for questioning, and the news is more dire than I had anticipated: there are many more, they are moving quickly, and they have designs on the City of Elua. I had thought to ask for assistance for the Siovalese, but the City is the greater prize, so I implore you, send them what assistance you are able to provide before it is too late and there will be no more Terre d'Ange to defend!
I am, as always, your most humble servant,
Leandre de Guivre, Baron Citrine
[Enclosed is a bloody swath of cloth, strange symbols printed on its surface, and obviously not of Skaldi make.]
