Set the eve of the march to Camlach It had been a good night – I'd thoroughly enjoyed that redhead, and waking up after a good night of rowdy sex was never not a good thing. I'd slept in, and wide awake past an honest bedtime, I found myself wandering to the Artisan's district, aimless, though I knew I'd come across kin if I went to the right places. And the Generous Patron opened its doors to me as it would have to King Marcel himself, and I sat at the bar, ordering a round for everyone in a loud, cheerful voice. “A drink for all,” I called, “who knows when I will return to you, shining city! Tomorrow, we ride to war!”

I glanced at the man who sat next to me at the bar and spilled his generosity as it seemed he’s recently spilled liquor, or maybe he was just drunk on the idea of war.
“That is very generous of you, friend,” I said, inclining my head to him.

With his jet black hair and the characteristic blue eyes of my mother's clan, I knew the man who'd spoken to me to be some distant relative, and I grinned.
“Generous? Oh, no, it's certainly not that,” I replied a touch cockily. “A bit egocentric, very attention-seeking, and certainly, mostly, prone to excess, I think that might be a bit a bit closer to the truth.” With that, I gave him a playful, flourishing bow.
I winked. “But you've seen all that already, I'm sure, cuz.”

“Indeed cuz,” I said, chuckling and shaking my head a little. “Though I might have to be offended that you are stealing my moves.”

“Fffff, imitation is the greatest form of compliment, I'm told, as is plagiarism. Not that I've ever written anything, aside a few despicable odes.”
I grinned, though, and offered him a handshake.
“Armand de Louis. Levarie's boy, should you need a pedigree.”

“Gabriel Shahrizai,” I told him as I took the offered hand and shook it. “Martin’s boy.”

I grinned a little wider. “Ah, yes. I heard of you – only good things, I promise,” I said after the handshake was concluded.
“Pleasure's all mine.”

“If all you’ve heard is good, then I must be losing my touch,” I said with a laugh. the bartender came over and I ordered a brandy on my cousin’s tab.

“Now you're just boasting – though feel free to rectify. Should I be trembling in my boots?” I was grinning wide, though, teasing without shame.

“I guess that depends on just how intimately you wish to know me,” I replied with a grin and a lingering look that traveled over him from head to toe.

Well, that wasn't something I was used to – oogling, that is. I was rather the ogler myself, and my cousin was serving me my own medicine. Interesting.
“Hmmmm intimately enough, hm? Though I do have an early morning, I suppose so long as I can sit in the saddle and not be pegged for a weakling, I can take enough.”
I winked.
“I was just at Valerian last night. I think I gained a rather persistent good memory of a redhead in the process. Fine like new wine.”
That didn't mean I wasn't versatile, though.

“Ah yes, Valerian is a rather excellent place for finding new offerings,” I said, then let my body shift so I was a little closer to him. “But there is only so much newness one can take before having to indulge in something more well developed.”
I wasn’t sure if I really wanted to bed him or not, but he was certainly worth toying with.

“My oh my,” I said, chuckling. “Would Martin's boy be looking to settle? That's quite the rumor, now, isn't it? I think I should order another round. Or are you...” I tilted my head, “mercifully letting me off to battle on the assumption that the playing field will be all mine, when I come back covered in glory? Really, that's kind, but I know that all of Mont-Nuit will weep, all of Terre d'Ange, even, if you do such a thing and stop gracing them all with your favors.”

I laughed deeply. “Only one not as well versed as I could think that taking the time to enjoy someone more experienced and skilled would mean one is settling down,” I told him. “It is naive to believe that only the new can be pleasurable.”

I grinned wider. “Coz, there's something you're not telling – and the rumors are starting anew. Who's this experienced treasure which you are defending so staunchly?”
Really, I had to assume: either Gabriel was proclaiming the virtues of experience, and preferred older lovers, or he'd found someone interesting enough to return, and more than once.
And that alone was interesting.

Ah, he had me, and I laughed, merrily, heartily, and I had no qualms about admitting defeat. “Ah, yes,” I replied, “that does seem to be rather consistent. Though I thought for a moment it was lady Rosie Palms you were talking about.”

“Of course,” I replied with a wry shake of my head. I took another drink of brandy. “So, dear cousin, what has spurred you to ride off to war?”

“They are almost one and the same,” I replied, chuckling. “Some say that the excitement of fighting is just as strong as the one of the bedroom. I'd be loath to deny it.”

“Hmm,” I mused. “I must say that I cannot give an opinion on that, having never engaged in battle beyond the bedroom.”
