Continued from here. We'd walked, then, from his home, and out of the borough and through Elua's Square, and then past the Temples where we'd met and away from Night's Doorstep, away from Mont-Nuit. Hand in hand, we talked - I made Necthan tell me of Alba and of Kriti, of his travels, of where he'd gone, and slowly I began to forget that I would be going back to the bathhouse at night, to give myself over to men I no longer could find it in me to desire. No matter. It was he, it was me, it was us. The more we spoke, the more I felt myself again, and him again, and the more I felt able to let myself go a little into the dream he wanted to weave. Outside the city walls, I asked for a pause, and took a breath, long and cleansing, through my nostrils. “It smells so clean, here,” I said softly. “Even the road's dust smells better than in the City.”
