Character Played By (the person in your avatar): Ryan McDonald
Name: Grímur Ericson (Devicque)
Title: Baron Devicque
Age: 26
Race (Lineage Origin): Half Skaldi/Half D'angeline
Gender: Male
Height: 6'1"
Home Province/Country: Skaldia/Terre d'Ange
Appearance: Grímur is a rather large man, just over six feet tall and muscular. His hair is red with a touch of gold, and unlike his D'angeline side of the family, he also sports a thin beard. His eyes are a clear blue, pale like chips of ice.
Personality:
Grímur is a man of intense passions. A Skaldic trait, he is very in touch with his emotions: loving or fighting, he feels everything passionately. Quick as he might be with his wit, he is also quick in his anger, but the heat dies just as easily. No one who knows him, however, would mistake his emotional ways as weakness, for when it comes down to it, he can be stoic and implacable, a mountain for others to dash themselves upon.
With women, he shares some of his Skaldi brethren's belief that men are dominant, but contrary to that belief, he also feels that women are to be protected and loved, not simply used for a man's pleasure. He is often torn in these ways, a consequence of being raised in both a Skaldic and D'angeline environment during different phases of his life.
History :
Grímur's parentage is not unheard of, but not the norm either. His father was Baron Eric Devicque, of Camlach and his mother was Freya Ungveldt, a Skaldic woman. Eric's lands bordered Skaldia and there were often raids on both sides. Eric was something of an outdoorsman, and often spent time hunting and fishing in the woods of his lands, sometimes straying into Skaldia. On one of these trips, he happened to meet Freya, who was out gathering firewood for her clan. As chance would have it, the forest was also being shared by a starving wolf, who just happened to choose that moment to attack. Despite Freya being Skaldic, Eric could not stand by and watch her be attacked, and so he fought the animal off. The two mistrusted each other at first, but they were each intrigued with the other, and the more time they spent together, the more they grew to care for one another.
Eric tried to convince Freya to leave her people and come live with him, but she could never betray her family that way, and as for himself, the Skaldi would never accept him among them. Freya knew when she became pregnant that their relationship had to end and she said her goodbyes and disappeared. She had a difficult life with her clan, especially when it became obvious that her child was part D'angeline. Still, she persevered, but when Grímur was 14, she became ill and did the only thing she could to give him a better life - send him to his father.
Not knowing of his son's existence, Eric was at first shocked, but he could see Freya in the boy, and himself as well, and so he took him into his own family. Grímur was educated as any other D'angeline boy, though he struggled with making friends and faced a lot of the same prejudice from the D'angelines that he had from the Skaldi. This might have led some men to become bitter, but no so Grímur, who instead sought out a better class of person to associate with.
Recently, his father passed away, leaving the barony to Grímur, who finds himself now torn between two worlds as the war rages on.
