Kendrick,
Hannah suggested that I should write to you, to let you know how Jace is and how we all are doing without you. I'm not sure what to say... things go on the same, though I can tell that Jace looks for you. He is growing so big already! This morning he smiled, a real smile and it was the cutest thing! I have enclosed a sketch of him that I drew while he was sleeping this afternoon.
I hope you are being careful, Kendrick. Don't take unnecessary risks and come back home to us. I know that you and I don't always see eye to eye, nor agree on ... well, much of anything, but beyond all of that, Jace deserves both of his parents, and I have never wished you harm.
Please be safe,
Naia and Jace

Backdated to just after the first fight. [/center] Naia,
It is nice to hear from you, even if it's only because someone else suggested it to you. It's good to hear about our son, good to hear he's doing well. I miss him, and you, and life back in the City.
We surprised the Skaldi two days gone. I will spare you the details, but suffice to know that that clan at least will no longer bother us. We drove them off, sparing the women and children only; I came from the fight untouched, though one from my company didn't come back at all. Don't worry, little pigeon - I have no plans on dying.
Take care of Jace for me. He needs you, and I can tell already that he loves you.

Dear Naia,
I've not heard from you again, and I thought I would drop another letter to see how you were doing, and how Jace is doing. He is getting big, I expect. Are you staying comfortable enough with him? If there's anything you need, just come by my townhome and instruct them of your wishes; they'll care for you in my absence.
Things here, well, it's not what I'd expected, but I'm still alive to write, and I suppose that should count for something.
Give Jace my love.

I watched the healer as she folded the letter, smiling at me and talking on about my son, asking questions, anything to interest me. No smile touched my face though, and I ignored her every comment and question, turning my face away from her to stare out into my private tent until she took the hint and left, letter in hand. I wondered what Naia would think of it, writ as it was in a feminine script, but it was all I had. The Skaldi took my right arm... I didn't even have the luxury of penning my own notes, now.
Gods, how was I going to cope?
