Character Played By : Ryan McDonald
Name: Hjalmar Fellstone (de Valliers)
Title: Baron
Age: 22
Race (Lineage Origin): Half-Skaldi
Gender: Male
Height: 6'2"
Home Province/Country: Camlach/Skaldia
Appearance:
Hjalmar is a large man, broad of shoulder and deep of chest. Standing over six feet in height, it is also readily apparent that he is rather thick of limb, cords of muscle along his arms and legs. However, he is not bulky, and it is obvious he is used to strenuous activity. Dark red hair adorns his head, along with a beard and piercing blue eyes. The faintest of smiles almost always is upon his countenance, and seems in contradiction to his natural aura of intensity.
Hjalmar knows he is different from his full-blooded D'Angeline cousins and likes to show that off at every opportunity. When not in battle he is often shirtless, or in the barest of cloths on his upper body. His beard is always well kept and if one looks long enough the gracefulness and beauty of his D'Angeline half is readily apparent despite his generally larger form. On very rare occasions he has been known to shave his beard.
Personality:
Hjalmar, or Hal, loves life. He lives every moment to the fullest. His every action is visceral, instinctual, from the way he fights to the way he makes love. That is not to say he is not calculating. He is, after all, a man and not an animal. Despite what most D'Angeline would have you believe about his 'darker half'. He is like most Skaldi; quick to laugh, to sing, to cry, to love... and to anger. But just as quickly he is quick to forgive.
Hjalmar is somewhat of a dominant, enjoying a bit of control over his lovers, but not to the point of cruelty. He is never truly abusive, and in fact most would describe him as protective and romantic. But it is true that his Skaldic blood runs hot in his veins and his weakness for D'Angeline women is a prominent aspect of his psyche.
History :
Hal was produced of, oddly enough, a consensual union of a Skaldic woman and a noble D'Angeline. The man, one Frederik de Valliers, fell madly in love for the spitfire that was Hjalmar's mother, Joselin Fellstone. Frederik loved to hike and explore nature and upon one fateful foray into the wilderness he stumbled upon the most beautiful creature he had ever seen. A Skaldi woman was gathering nuts and berries and placing them in a large wicker basket. He observed her for a time as she sang softly in her work. Only when he stepped on a fallen twig did she notice him. She started to flee, but he called out to her. Tentative and shy, she waited for him to approach. As a man of Camlach and on the borders, Frederik knew her language and over a time she came to trust him. They met every day for over a month, learning of each other and eventually falling in love.
Their love had to be hidden of course and it was only after she came to be with child that they had to part. She fled to her people and once Hal was born he was raised as a Skaldi. For the first 12 years of his life the boy grew tall and strong, raised in the ways of his mother's people. But she grew ill and knew that she would no longer be able to protect him, for his fine D'Angeline features would soon be evident. And so she sent him to his father.
The adjustment was difficult for Hal, but slowly he came to understand D'Angeline ways. And he took the best of both worlds and made them his own. Surprisingly well-adjusted, he bore no malice for either people and loved both his father and his mother.
His father grows old and bestows his title upon the young man just a year ago, a title which carries some responsibilities.
