After some time had passed, and I started suspecting that the Sovereign Duchesse of Eisande had probably either returned, or received my first note, I penned her another letter, which I hoped she would see in time. Lessandrie dearest,
I hope you received word of my existence before this letter caught you – when I visited your home in the City of Elua, I left a note with your kinsman, Comte Guy de Mereliot.
He informed me of your wedding to a Ruskovian prince, and so I included congratulations, which I am of course reiterating now, should you not have received them.
To say that news of my death have been greatly exaggerated would be an understatement – though the circumstances certainly warranted the rumor. At the time of writing, I am in Azzale, participating in the war effort with what meager troops my mother's estate has allowed me to conjure. The Northern front is calm, however – though rumor of battle in the south has already reached us.
I have more and more news to share, but I would sooner know that you have received this missive first, before I couch my life on this parchment, and it is lost to the four winds.
I long to hear your voice again, and to witness your joy,
With much friendship,
Gillermo Stregazza

My friend Gillermo,
I'm so glad to hear that the things I've heard are in this case false and that you are still alive, and I can hope that you are as well as ever.
My cousin did indeed deliver the message to me, though I have to admit with everything else that has been going on, from settling things here in Marsilikos to acquainting myself to my own efforts that may further the d'Angeline cause in this conflict, I've had little time to write. Forgive me for that, and know that I have put this to paper as soon as I have found the time to do so.
Your congratulations are most appreciated as well, and I must confess that my marriage has been more wonderful than anything I could have ever imagined. As you are my friend I will tell you with no hesitation at all that for all of the things I ever wanted Fydor is all of them and more. Though I worry over the war and what may happen I have him as my compass and my hope for the future.
My other wish is that things will go more quietly than predicted, and that victory will not come at too great a cost. Keep yourself safe, dear friend, and I will hope to see you again in good spirits and good health.
Hoping these words find you well, Lessandrie

I was ineffably happy to know that Lessa was in Marsilikos. That was, after all, much closer than Ruskovia, and it seemed war, for all it did, had at least given me an opportunity to make good on my word. Dearest friend,
I can only tell you how selfishly happy I am that you are back in Terre d'Ange, even though the circumstances could hardly less joyful.
If your cousin is in your company, do transfer him my thanks for his diligence. Of course, you are all forgiven – I suspect your responsibilities weigh on your slim shoulders more heavily than they should. Yet I also recall your iron will and calm determination, and I have every faith that you will succeed in achieving your goals.
Knowing as well that you are happily wed to a man who is, as you write, your compass, is a great joy. For myself, I've news of my own, though I believe I would sooner share them with you in person when all that has come to pass allows us to finally meet again.
To that effect, a personal quest may send me to Marsilikos sooner than I'd expected. Should such plans occur, would you grant me the pleasure of an audience with you? We have indeed much to tell each other, don't we?
Until the immense joy of taking you in my arms, I will think of your happiness and smile,
Your friend, ever and always,
Gillermo Aware of her occupation, I found myself suddenly shy to ask about the bloody standard, and resolved to save it for our visit, or perhaps another missive. Ah, Gil. You do have odd ways, at times.

Dear Gillermo,
Please forgive me again for the shortness of this missive, for things seem to be hurrying themselves along rather insistently. These days bring to mind when my mother was so often busy in the Akkadian war and while things here are likely more peaceful than they were at that time there is still much to make ready.
Your words are as charming as ever and I find myself more than eager to see you again, to hear your news and to speak on many things as we once did. Should you find yourself in Marsilikos I would no doubt take an audience with you, though it would be much preferred to greet you as a friend instead. Should you need any help in your quest please feel free to ask and know that my door is always open.
I fondly await further word or your arrival.
Ever a loyal friend, Lessa [/right]

Having received in the meantime word from Leandre, I opted to write to Lessa once more, and to include my query, which she so elegantly invited. Oh, Lessandrie,
I suppose I should apologize, for falling into your life, or rather, re-emerging into it, like hair falling into your gazpacho. I'm so sorry to be yet another demand on your time – and I write this without irony or sarcasm. In fact, I am rather worried for you, and for your health, though I know you are stout, and I'm told your husband is a steady man who will hold fast in the face of adversity.
I recall the Akkadian war, or rather, what I heard of it in the day. I was stationed in Kriti, then, did you know? There were enough refugees and wounded soldiers to fill the island, betimes, though it was only ever a stop. Nonetheless, I imagine the abundance of work on your plate – I will try, when I come to visit, to be a source of reprieve, and not of trouble, it's a promise. I will come to you as a friend – forgive old habits, they are as hard to kill as a stubborn horned beast of Jebe-Barkal! I am no longer in my cousin's service, I have too much to do for my direct family as is – I must re-learn to write letters as myself, it seems.
Should you find time to ask one of your clerks to look into some heraldry, I have an odd query for you: a standard which I'm told does not belong to any known House of Terre d'Ange, nor to any foreign House I've ever known or been acquainted with. It is a green snake on a black field – should you know any thing of this particular emblem, it may be of help in my quest.
You have my friendship and loyalty, ever,
Gillermo Stregazza
