My dearest Mala,
We've arrived on the boarder, and the General lost no time in ordering a battle. We took them by surprise. I've been placed under the Duc of Camlach, who is young but a good commander. We didn't get away unscathed. No one in our unit was killed, but enough are with the healers. Will you light a candle for them? They are good men, who deserve to go home to their families alive. I am fine, only a small nick on my arm where a knife got me. Two stitches and I'll be as right as rain. Do not worry, I'm faster than these lumbering warriors with their heavy axes.
I miss you so much, especially waking up beside you. Please take care of yourself, I want you nice and healthy when I return and not sick with worry. Please give Nova a kiss for me when you see her next, and tell Henri he's not missing anything.
Love you and will see you soon, Chris

Dearest Christophe, It is a blessing to hear that the first battle went well. I will light a candle for those injured and send prayers for them along with the ones I say for you.
Everyone here misses you and cannot wait for your return. I of course miss you more and more with every beat of my heart.
Come home safe, and soon.
Love always, Malabelle

My dearest Mala,
So it looks like I'll have a heroic scar on my arm. When I was getting stitched up, the Balm adept working on the man beside me was telling all sorts of stories to his patient to keep his mind off the pain. The stories seemed to all center around a particularly buffoonish capitain in the navy who liked to hear his own voice so much that he did things like trip over the side of the ship because he was so busy listening to his own sermon. The Balm could have been an Eglantine, the way he told the story.
It's been quiet since the first battle. Will write again soon.
With all my love, Chris

My Beloved Christophe, It is good to hear that there is some levity there, though I had to read the last of your letter several times before I could get past you being injured enough to have such a scar. Oh love, please be careful. I don’t care about scars or wounds, just come back to me.
I decided to redo the far eastern corner of the garden and am having a pond put in. I’ve ordered some Ch’in fish for it once it is completed. I can’t wait for you to see it.
I love you, always, Malabelle

My love,
I am doing well, and am in good spirits. No new scars to report. I am feeling a little homesick, but I know it shall pass. Any news from Marie? I hope she is finding Alba to her liking.
Ch'n fish? That would be quite the sight. I heard that they have some at Jasmine, but I've never seen them. A pond would be lovely to relax by when I get home. With you curled up against me of course.
Love you and miss you, Chris

My heart, Marie sent word that she arrived safely and is settling in. The letter was brief, but she sent her love for me to pass on to you.
The pond is near complete and the fish should be arriving soon. I decided to plant a small grove of willows around the pond. The place will be magical and I cannot wait to show it to you.
I love you more with each passing second.
Malabelle
