I kind of forgot about this! But I wanted to post about sorting our characters into the various elements, aka Fire, Air, Water and Earth. My sorting! Fire:- Gillermo, definitely, he's terribly passionate, etc. And he's been branded, too. - Alayne. She has the hair color, the temper, and it kind of runs in the family, Air:- Svetlana, if/when I have her. It's actually the basis of her personality. - Armand, whom I kind of read as a puckish sort of fellow. ^^ Water:- Geraldine, because she's more of the sleeping waters type - and she's Eisandine, it fits her well. - Silvana. Oh, Silvana. Of the rolling raging ocean type, and it works, what with ailing from La Serenissima. - Kai, definitely, and I always thought of the harp as being a bit of a waterfal sound thing. Earth:- Shona, definitely, now that she's of Anael. - Jacques, also, it's ingrained in his very being, in every thing that he does, and in his love/hate relationship with the family estate.

I found a massive elemental correspondence list here: www.agnosticwitch.com/articles/elementals-table.html In case anyone isn't familiar with how the elements differ from each other. For the abridged version, see TV Tropes' entry here: tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ElementalPowersYou might also want to consult the Four Temperament Ensemble: tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FourTemperamentEnsembleFireLandis - and it's not just because he's a redhead, he's also passionate and driven, both very fiery qualities Emile - Well, he certainly has a fiery temper! I think he embodies both the best and the worst qualities of the element: passionate yet temperamental, also willing to let anger consume him in the name of "getting the job done". I expect he'll eventually "cool down" and embrace the more "positive" aspects of the element, eventually. Mael - Also has quite a temper, definitely brash and impulsive. Interestingly, fire is opposed to water (for obvious reasons) and Mael can't cry, and he seems to be out of touch with his emotions in general. AirAdelaide - She does like gardening, which is an earthy quality, but she's very much the social butterfly, and curious about everything. Air is associated with the intellect and things of the mind, but also with communication. She's a bit of a motor mouth too. Zephyr - He's named for the west wind in Hellene mythology, runs a network of spies and trades information (itself intangible, like air). I don't know whether "intellectual" is the best word to describe him, but he is certainly well educated, and capricious (one moment, a calm breeze, the next, a gale) making deals with someone one moment and betraying them the next. WaterCatherine - as water is the element of emotions, dreams, intuition, it's particularly appropriate for a Gentian adept, but Catherine is definitely one of those people who lets her heart rule her head, and she does have a tendency to be very emotional in general. Yue - Well, her name means "Moon" and the moon does pull on the tides, so there's that, but when I first conceived of Yue, I saw her as the sort of person who likes to help people at her own expense. She has to sit at the side of a sick person and make sure they eat all their chicken soup before she worries about other things, it's interesting to note that out of all four elements, water is most often associated with healing. EarthLeandre - His drive for knowledge is a very air-like quality (air being associated with the intellect, as I've said) but he's also very practical, down-to-earth, not easily provoked to anger (unless your burning books) which are very earthy qualities.
