PC relatives:
- his siblings, Marcel, Guy and Sophine.
- His sister-in-law, Coretta de la Courcel
- His stepmother, Maigrey.
Appearance:
Jacques is tall and well built, light to dark brown hair, brown eyes. His lips are very full, and when he smiles, he looks a good deal younger than he is. He has big, strong hands that are used to manual work, though he's not much of a fighter. Rather, he is a man of horses and landscapes, of plows and barns, who works with the commoner when necessary and directs from his solar when he must. He stands tall at 6'2, is broad shouldered and a bit bulky, his body is definitely earthy in shape and form, but he is strong and stout as most men of the earth are.
Personality:
Jacques was good-natured and kindhearted, always responsible, stoic, doing the right thing, he was kind and compassionate, but believed in duty above all else. In correlation to that belief, however, is a stern belief in justice and personal merit, and an inability to bend his principles. One of them, that merit should be recompensed and idleness, punished, was severely infringe on by Jacques' father when he decided to disinherit Jacques to Marcel's benefit, and then to wed Marcel to Coretta de la Courcel. Since this string of events, Jacques has been living in what he considers to be righteous anger, and after much mulling over and seething at being his younger brother's steward, he finally comes to the City for a confrontation.
History:
Jacques is the oldest of 7 and was groomed from birth to take over the estate, an education in which he partook with enthusiasm and dedication. For as long as he could remember, his future was set, and he would eventually be the Comte de Layne, a responsibility which he was looking forward to only as one anticipates duty, and never out of cupidity. However, Jacques's future was compromised by Marcel's idyll with Maigrey, a young widow who was slated to wed his father, unbeknownst to him.
In this time, Jacques was well on the way to being betrothed to Coretta de la Courcel, though with the Comte figuring out Marcel and Maigrey's attachments, that bright future as King of Terre d'Ange was compromise. In an unfair turn of events, Marcel was awarded Jacques' future, and Jacques was left with administering what was, moments earlier, to be his birthright, and now never would be.
Predictably, Jacques never accepted this turn of events, which he considers to be the greatest injustice to have ever been performed. In time the Comte died and Marcel took on the title, with Jacques' life being little affected by their father's death. He became a recluse, seldom leaving the familial estate, only keeping contact with his closest sibling Guy, with whom he maintains a slow and erratic correspondence. However, while Jacques loved the estate passionately, he has slowly been coming to loathe it.
War comes and duty calls, and Jacques rides, then, to the City of Elua under the excuse of demanding his due, resigning from the stewardship he can no longer tolerate, and signing up for battle. Though his behavior may be indicative of a possible death wish, it's rather possible that his thoughts are nobler than he admits, and his love for his brother, truer than he knows.
