I hated myself. I hated myself and I hated the world which had put me in such a quandary. Oh, but the indignity of my actions, and the tear in my propriety - all of it was wrong and ill done, the way I'd taken Mirielle, though consenting she may be, the way I'd sent her off to Azzalle, alone, on the pretense of having my own obligations here, to my family, and of my loathing a man now long dead.
I'd drunk my share and brooded enough, and if I was staying to find Cascata, the least I could do was follow my plan and visit the Night Court. For that, though, I needed an in, and I recalled the sprightly Valerian girl I'd contracted shortly after her debut, and thought perhaps she would be helpful to me - she would know.
And so it was that I made for House Valerian and sought to meet the Dowayne, requesting specifically Avrielle no Valerian, over no other. I'd no mind for sex or dalliances, but I would contract her nonetheless, pay her lunch, and see where things went from there.
Sitting in her office, I waited, the contract on the desk, for the acolyte who'd been sent to fetch the girl.
[OOC: Edited for the Dowayne's gender. >.<]

I was summoned to the Dowayne's office somewhat unexpectedly, but nothing could have prepared me for the patron who was waiting for me there. "My lord Stregazza," I said, trying not to exclaim as I dropped into a curtsy. "Forgive me," I said, eyes on the floor, "but I had heard news of your death, it was so long ago, and yet here you are..."
"Avrielle," said Trinette gently, but firmly. "The lord Stregazza requests your presence for lunch."
"I - ah, yes, of course," I said, hurriedly going to sign the contract.

She was just as vivid as I remembered, and I smiled a little, a touch sadly, feeling, ah, feeling that I wished things hadn't changed so direly in my life. There was a time in which I'd desired her, and by all the gods above, I could see why. But my mind was weary and my heart was heavy, and so instead I felt a little bit dead inside, alas.
I waited for Avrielle to sign, then applied my own signature to the contract, handing the quill back to the lady Dowayne with applied courtesy.
“My thanks,” I told her. “Now if you will excuse us, I believe we are expected for lunch.”
For the occasion, I'd rented a carriage, having yet to hire staff and buy horses for my own, and I'd made a reservation at Cher Fantaisie, which I'd finally found to be what I once knew to be Désir. And offering the lovely adept my arm, I asked, “If you would do me the honor, Avrielle?”

"Of course, Lord Stregazza," I said, the surprise still evident in my tone. I accepted his arm, and we walked out to the carriage together.

I smiled a little, half sadly, endeared by Avrielle's ways as I ever was, and patted her arm, my hand on hers, as I led her to the carriage, but for now, I did not speak of yet. I wanted to embrace her, truth be, and felt, oddly, that it might be uncouth, and hesitated. I needed a glass of wine. Continued here.

I was unsure what to say when we got into the carriage, and he seemed not to want to speak at all, so I just squeezed his arm in a comforting matter and settled back for the ride to the restaurant.
