PC Relatives:
Her siblings: Kendrick and Emeric, who still live, and Vincent and Julie, deceased.
Physical appearance:
Standing short of 5"8, lean and slender like her mother, Alayne has a sporty body, kept in excellent shape by daily hard work.
Alayne's signature feature is a large hunk of red, curly, unruly hair kept free and flowing freely down her back (and occasionally up around her face, depending on how the wind blows). Her face is fair and her light hazel eyes are usually smart and very alive, darting between someone who is talking to her and her surroundings.
Her hands are callused from scrubbing in the bath house as a child, and she has a long scar along her right arm. The latter allows one to distinguish her from the identical twin she never met, Julie Deveroix.
Personality:
Kendrick's long lost baby sister is somewhat of a rebellious, unruly character and though she resembles him in terms of demeanor and behavior, they have very distinct personalities. Although she appears to be a wild card, there is a great measure of good sense in her.
Her upbringing as a commoner has however forced some restraint into her fiery temper. She understands authority and the necessity of obedience – it however does not mean that she will not be stubborn about getting her own way: it only means she may be sneaky about it. Though her body is graceful, she lacks the social graces of her birthright, having never been taught the skills required by a lady of high birth.
Having had to lie, steal and cheat early on in her life for the needs of her survival, she has no qualms about such things. She is however a good girl deep down, with a kind heart and the ability to perform striking acts of unsolicited kindness.
History:
Julie was born first, Alayne came next. The Comtesse's delivery was sufficiently dramatic and traumatic that when she insisted that all leave, including her husband and the boy Kendrick, none insisted, leaving her with the midwife, Denise Lombard. However Lombard herself had just recently miscarried her first child, and soured by her own loss, she could not stand to see the Comtesse giving birth to two healthy girls, and so when the second babe came out with the cord around her neck, she was all too pleased to inform her employer that the child was dead. Ashamed and distraught, the Comtesse ordered the dead child be taken away immediately, even refusing to look at her. As Julie was taken to the wetnurse, a barely living Alayne was smuggled away.
For the first few years of her life, the girl was raised in Namarre, kept on a small plot of land belonging to distant relatives of her thief, whom she called mother, knowing no better. Shortly, though, the advantage of selling the child outgrew those of keeping her, and so the toddler was taken to the city of Elua. Fearful of the bureaucracy of Mont-Nuit, Lombard opted for Night's Doorstep instead, handing the child over to a bathhouse woman in exchange for a round purse full of ducats.
Alayne grew up scrubbing the bath house's rancid tiles and carrying around pails of dubious water, washing dirty rags and towels and being teased (sometimes cruelly) by the bath house's patrons. An Eisandine employee of the bath house named Erika Demis took the child under her wing, giving her what care she could. When Alayne became of age, her chores were switched around and she learned to offer special services to the bath house's clients. She is now know as the wild girl in the bath house and prized by some who think they can tame her stubborn ways by force, though clients who offer her gentleness are well repaid for their patience.
