The carriage had finally stopped and I pulled the closed curtain back just enough so I can look out. We had stopped in what appeared to be a large square with a fountain and an ancient looking tree. But before I could look more, my translator, an elderly woman by the name of Hanako, closed the curtain. I turned to look at her.
"Surely not," she said.
"Hanako, I'm going to see when I step out."
"Not until..."
I cut her off when I opened the door and gracefully stepped out of the carriage. It had been given to us by a Ch'n lord when we had landed there nearly a year and a half ago. The few staff members I had were standing around, gawking at all the wonderfully designed buildings. Granted, the area was no Hanamachi, but it had it's own sense of beauty. I hadn't planned on where I would be staying once I reached the capital of the Land of Angels, but I was confident that with the help of Hanako I would be able to find a reasonable priced place.
I walked over to the fountain, aware that those around me were staring. I suppose not many from the Land of the Rising Sun ever visited the Land of Angels. I wasn't wearing one of my entertaining kimono considering I didn't want to ruin them, so I was wearing a light colored and fabric kimono to match the late spring weather.
"Satoka, I insist that you return to the carriage," I heard Hanako behind me.
"I'll be quite alright, Hanako," I called over my shoulder.

I had been enjoying the warm weather and the spray from the fountain, when I saw a unusual carriage come into Elua's square. I watched a Ch'n woman step out and make her way toward the fountain. She had a most unusual looking outfit, and the first thought that came to my mind was "easy mark."
I stood up and made my way to her, "Good day, m'lady. I have a feeling that you are not from Terre D'Ange...." My eyes looked over her gown. There was apart of me that thought it far too lovely for her form, and then another part that thought it far too odd to fit well in high noble society.

I heard someone speak and turned to look to see a lovely looking woman standing there. I noticed her look over my kimono and I looked over her own. I don't know how the women of this land could wear such types of kimono that revealed their bosoms. Her dress did reveal some of her, but not enough. Though... back home it would be enough to excite a man.
"No, we're not from the Land of Angels," Hanako said in their language, coming up beside me. Well, I don't know what she said since I had not yet learned their language. "Good day to you." I'm sure she said that politely, but for some reason, I felt like she didn't. She put her hands on my shoulders as if to guide me back to the carriage. "I told you to return to the carriage," she said to me.
"Ask her where we can find some lodging. I don't think I can take another night sleeping in that cage of a carriage."

My brow furrowed slightly when I saw a elderly woman answer my question and then speak in a strange language to the woman while pushing her back to the carriage. I walked toward them, "Where are you trying to get to? Perhaps I could be of use to you.." Although, I didn't usually help others, it looked as if a connection with this one might end up being a good thing for me.

I watched Hanako look to the woman and pulled away from my translator. I was old enough to walk on my own. "What did she say?"
"She asked where we're going and that she could be of use to us."
I looked to the woman and wondered why she offered her help to us. Yes, she could be of use to us, but despite my curiosity wanting to get the better of me, something was telling me that something wasn't right about her.
"We're looking for lodging," Hanako answered. Again, I wasn't sure this was what she said since she spoke in the other woman's language.

I nodded at the older woman, since she seemed to be able to understand me, "Are you referring to high class accommodations? Or....low class?" I figured if I was going to help out some strangers, I might as well point them in a direction that they could afford.

Hanako glanced over at me and repeated the question. "Something close to high class," I replied. I certainly wasn't used to low class back home in the okiya and I wasn't sure what low class meant for those here. The okiya was one of the high class okiyas, and including the Geiko who was oba-san's (grandmother) eldest daughter, there were five of us Geiko. Though Hanakin had left when she gained a dana when I was still a maiko and close to becoming full Geiko.

I nodded to them both, "Then you will need to go East then. It's down that road. If you just keep going that way, there will be a block full of elegant houses. I could come with you if you wish." I pointed in the right direction and told them of any significant landmarks that I could remember along the way. Although, I had only been in Elua a few months, I had enough experience to know my way around the city.

Hanako repeated and I nodded, taking in the directions. "I think we'll be fine," I told Hanako, who repeated it. Hanako motioned to the carriage driver while I returned to it willingly and walked along side it.
