"Of course," I said instead of nodding in fear of doing more damage to it. I seriously hoped that Octavian wouldn't notice the small damaged done.

I cleaned my tools as much as needed to be used on the same person and by that time the ink had set enough for me to repair the damage. “This is going to hurt more since the skin is already sensitive,” I told her. “Ready?”

"Yes." I mentally prepared myself for the heighten pain and wondered if I had enough of Valerian in me to bare the pain.

Once more I began the work that would put the final ink into her skin before her marque was complete. I worked carefully, not focusing at all on any pain she might be feeling, but only seeking to keep her marque from having been ruined.
When I was done, I straightened up and looked at the whole once more. There was a thickening of line here and there, a shading that was a little deeper than usual there and there, but overall it looked as it should.
“Don’t move,” I told her as I set my tools done once more.

My face scrunched up in pain, and I refused to move due to the pain. He finally stopped and instructed me not to move. As if I was going to move after the last time.

I cleaned up while I waited for the ink to set and then turned back to her.
“Would you like to see?” I asked.

"I would." I still didn't dare to move, even though it was probably safe to do so.

Taking up the two hand mirrors, I gave her one and then held the other so that she might see the whole of her marque in the reflection.

I took the offered hand mirror and angled it so I could see the finished marque in the reflection in the other mirror. There was a hint of a thickened line there and a bit of a shade darker there, but other than that, it was complete.

She looked but didn’t say anything; in fact she didn’t seem to have any reaction at all. I held the mirror, waiting for her to be done looking.

"It looks great, even the parts that have been messed up," I said. "Thank you for fixing it." I returned the mirror to him.

“You’re welcome,” I said, laying the mirrors aside and stepping away from the table. “You may dress now and I will get a jar of ointment for you to use.”

I sat up and donned the robe while he moved to retrieve a jar of ointment. Though I did have some unused back at Gentian, I didn't really mention it.

While she changed, I got another jar of ointment and set it near the contract. When she was finished, we could both sign the contract and everything would be done. Until she returned, I began to clean up.

I returned to where my clothes were and dressed, mindful of the new addition to my marque. Hanging the robe, I left the changing area and made my way back over to where he was cleaning up. "Shall we sign the contract?"

“Of course,” I said, handing her the quill. I motioned to the jar of ointment. “This is a little different than any I may have given you before. The ingredients are stronger, to help with the additional work. You should use it four times a day for a week.”

I accepted the quill and signed. "Thank you. Again, I'm sorry for having moved." I handed the quill over to him and accepted the ointment, setting it on the table so I could put the purse next to the contract.

“It didn’t do too much damage,” I said as I added my name to the contract. Setting down the quill, I offered her my hand.
“Congratulations,” I said with a smile.

I accepted his hand, shaking it. "Thank you." I smiled, happy to know that I was one more step to becoming a free person.

Thank you." I withdrew my hand, and with a polite nod, left the shop and made my way back to Gentian House.
