Character Played By: Erik von Detten
Name: Francois de Vere
Title: Captain in the D'angeline Army
Age: 42
Race: D'angeline
Gender: Male
Height: 6'2"
Home Province/Country: Camlach/Terre d'Ange
Appearance: Like most of the men he serves with, Francois is a man whose handsome face is marred by scars from long years of service on the border between Skaldia and Camlach. Still, Francois is not too badly scarred, his light brown hair covering the worst one on his forehead. His eyes are clear blue, like the sky on a summer day, and one can see the intelligence in them. He is muscular but not a large man, rather tall and lean.
Personality: Francois is a well-rounded man, capable of being fair and honest, and yet also not afraid to take chances and roll the dice. He has been a soldier long enough that he no longer fears death, and he has a knowledge of the Skaldi that no other D'angeline can claim, having spent almost his entire life fighting them. He has a ready smile and quick wit, which he finds is good for morale. He can be roused to anger, but he is a just man, and saves his anger for those who truly deserve. All of this, and yet in one area he is completely unreasonable: his hatred of the Skaldi. Some might say that it is completely reasonable, but his hatred makes him blind to reason at times, and he has oft risked his - and his men's - lives in order to kill even on Skaldic warrior. Neither does he limit himself to warriors: he once killed two Skaldi women that wandered too close to the border and for that he is one of the most hated D'angelines the Skaldi know of, and a target to boot.
History: Like many Camaeline children, Francois grew up near the border, always on watch for Skaldi raids. Though during his childhood they were quiet, he was still the victim of one that saw his mother taken off by the Skaldi. To this day he has no idea if she lives. His father raised him with a sword in his hand, astride a horse, and he followed him eagerly. By sixteen, he had joined the military and was a force to be reckoned with. Most of his superiors were impressed with him, though some worried at his focus on the Skaldi, even when there were other enemies to be fought. Still, he persevered, and was rewarded time and time again.
When he was 22, he married a Camaeline woman, Desiree, and had a child, Marie-France. As the Skaldi increased their raids, it was perhaps not unexpected that his lands were a prime target, and his wife and child died in the fire the Skaldi set to his home, all the while he was away fighting another battle. He has never forgiven the Skaldi, or himself, and his life has become a single-minded desire to eradicate the Skaldi from the world, one by one if necessary.
