Before my siblings could saddle me with a bodyguard - though, to be fair, I was not planning to argue overmuch - I decided to do a little exploring of the City on my own. I went early, and to a place that was usually full of people, Elua's Square. There were more people in the Square alone than I was used to seeing, and I felt rather overwhelmed at the sheer size of everything here. I was no backwoods country girl, but still, this was very different from home.
I liked it, though, the pace of the City. It was faster than at home, and yet, sitting on the edge of the fountain and looking into the crystal blue water, there was a certain timelessness to be had here. A sense of things always going on, never changing, no matter what was going on in the world outside.
And what was going on in the world outside, I reflected, letting my fingers drift into the water. There was some unrest in Azzalle, I knew that much. People were scared, worried, and it showed. Sighing, I tried to banish those melancholy thoughts and just enjoy the day. After all, there would be plenty of time for worrying in the future.
