I had decided to go out the same day I had gotten Castiel's missive to the marquist. The way I saw it, the sooner I have my marque finished, the sooner I could continue my plans to propose to Kaden. I knew she had plans to go before Queen Coretta with some of her recent visions, and I would support her one hundred percent. But until then, I accepted living in the House until such time Kaden made her marque, hopefully accepts my proposal, and the Queen accepts her as a Palace Seer.
I walked into the salon, the little bell over the door ringing when it was struck by the door. I removed the coin that I had received and looked around for the marquist, hoping he was in. For some odd reason, I didn't feel like waiting for too long.

The bell above the door rang and I wondered who it was since I didn’t have an appointment scheduled for this time. Coming from the back, I entered the front room and smiled at the man there.
“Good day,” I said. “May I help you?”He looked familiar and I was rather certain he was an adept I’d worked on before.

I heard Marquist Kachine enter the room with a greeting. "Good day," I replied. "Yes, I'm here to finish my marque. I do believe that this," I held up the coin, "will be enough to complete the job."

The longer I was with him, the more familiar he became. “Gentian, yes?” I asked, moving to my files so that I could locate his contract.

"Yes sir." I stood there patiently and watched him move to his files and looked for my contract.

The moment I saw his name on the contract I remembered him.
“Ah yes, Crispin,” I said, turning back to him and smiling. “You are nearly finished. That should indeed be enough.”

"That's good to hear," I said. "Shall we sign the contract before the work is done?"

“Let’s wait until it is done, then we’ll add the completing signatures,” I said, smiling. I held the curtain aside to the back room. “If you’ll go change behind the screen, I will get everything ready.”

I nodded, stepping behind the screen to change. There I found a robe hanging on a hook that I could use. I stripped my clothes off and donned the robe, tying the sash so the robe would remain closed before I stepped out.

While he changed I set out my inks and tools. He stepped from behind the screen and I motioned to the table.
"Go ahead and lay down, I'll be just a minute as I finish getting everything ready," I told him.

I walked over to the table and stripped off the robe at the table's side and got comfortable on the table. I was so eager to have this finished. Then I could go to Kaden... Then it hit me. Kaden hadn't finished her marque yet. But she was closed to being finished. I guess I'd have to wait a little while longer. I could start saving up for our own place and salon.

Once everything was ready, I turned to the table and let my eyes move over his back. There was no telltale signs that he’d had any lingering problems with previous marquings, so I was confident this would go smoothly.
I ran my fingers lightly over the part of his back that was still bare of ink. Even though there were no signs, I was cautious enough to ask, “Did you have any issues after your last marquing?”

"No I haven't," I answered, feeling his light touch on my back.

“Excellent,” I said, nodding slightly to myself. I retrieved the calipers and began measuring out the final points of his marque.

I could feel the slight pressure of him measuring out the last of my marque. At long last, it'll be finished. I laid there motionless, head resting on my folded arms.

Finished measuring, I picked up the stylus and dipped it in the ink.
“Ready?” I asked him. He was so quiet, I wanted to make sure.

"I am. Mark away." I smiled at that, but I'm sure he didn't see that.

With that, I began my work. Quickly I fell into a familiar rhythm, hands moving almost on their own. Time slipped by unnoticed until I straightened up.
“All done,” I said. “But don’t move yet.”

I was nearly laud into that border between sleep and awake but completely aware of one's surroundings by the rhythmic tappings. I lost track of the time before I was brought around by the absence of the tapping and the pricks on my back. I stayed still as he asked.

“Do you need more healing ointment?” I asked as I went to wash my hands.

"I don't believe so, no," I answered. I've been a good healer when it came to my marque.

"Thank you." I was eager to see it, but I had to wait another minute or two.

I cleaned up a little more and then handed him a hand mirror. I held a larger mirror where it would reflect the image of his completed marque into the hand mirror.
“There you are,” I said, smiling.

I shifted, taking the hand mirror, and angled it so I could see the finished marque in the larger mirror. It was finished, truly finished. "Thank you, Messire Kachine," I said.

“My pleasure,” I said, smiling as I took the mirrors and set them aside. Next I got some salve and applied it to the new marque, before adding bandages to keep it protected.
“All done,” I told him, stepping back.

I allowed him to take the hand mirror back and felt him put some salve and bandages to what had been done to the marque.
"Thank you," I said, sliding off of the table, putting the robe on.

“Would you like to finish the business before or after you dress?” I asked, indicating the contract on the counter.

"I can do it now." I had no qualms about finishing the business in naught but a closed robe. I was an adept after all.

“Alright,” I said, finding a quill and offering it to him. “Sign next to where you signed when we began.” I smiled and moved enough so that he sign the contract.
