In my attempt to learn the City bit by bit I had come upon a shop that sold perfumes and oils. Delighted, I could not help but step in. Mayhap I could find a gift to send to Mama; she'd always loved perfume. It would be nice to have some oil to rub on my skin as well, especially after working with the horses.
As I stepped into the shop my eyes widened at the size of it. I inhaled deeply, my breasts lifting as my lungs filled and my senses were happily overwhelmed with all of the delicious scents within. I did not see anyone immediately and so I was content to begin perusing the large variety that was offered here, trying to place the scent that I remembered Mama wearing. Was it sandalwood? Or was it snapdragon? Leaning over, I looked along the rows closer to the floor.

Perfume wasn't so much my scene, but I knew that there was one good thing about places like that- women everywhere, looking for a way to attract attention in one way or another. That was a scene I could appreciate and I stepped into the shop confidently, ignoring the confused mix of smells that seemed to immediately try to seep into my nose. How anyone could spend more than ten minutes here without getting a headache was beyond me but after years of being in fights that could get me killed I could push off something that small, especially when compared to the prospective reward.
I hadn't dressed in anything fancy, just my usual pants and a shirt of a deep red color that was unbuttoned about halfway down my breastbone, and I let my eyes wander across the shop as though I was actually looking for something while I really took whoever may be here. Maybe this shop was quieter than I thought, for the only woman I saw was young but very winsome what with the curves that could have stopped half of a city block if she'd been inclined to show them off. Well, it was a place to start, and I wandered over to the shelf she was examining, standing a few paces away and looking over the glass bottles like I actually cared what was in them before giving her a sideways glance. Just as I thought, she was even better up close, and I idly looked back at the wares again.

So involved was I at perusing the scents that I had no idea anyone had come in until I felt a presence behind me and heard footsteps. Glancing up, I met the glance of a very handsome young man, tall and lean and very well-formed. His brown hair was short and in careless disarray and his eyes were deep, rich pools of amused intelligence. I was hard-pressed to pinpoint the expression on his face, but he looked rather bored. I smiled politely up at him, the corners of my mouth lifting and my lips parting slightly to show my straight white teeth.
"Hello, my lord," I said as I straightened up and smoothed out the skirts of my dark blue dress once, simply to make sure I was proper. He was still taller than I by a head and so my head naturally tipped upward to look at him, my blonde curls moving of their own accord to fall behind my shoulders. "I wasn't impeding your perusal at all, was I?" I asked.

So she was going to notice and speak. That was polite of her. Smiling charmingly I glanced over at her again and cocked my head as I looked down at her. She was petite, but that was just about perfect to me, and her tone was certainly pretty enough and led a man to speculate how it would sound moaning their name. That was a perfectly natural response as far as I was concerned.
"Hello to you, my lady," I replied in sedate but pleasant tone, my eyes smoldering slightly with interest. "Have no fear, you're not imposing on my vision at all." How could she be, with her lovely body and golden curls that would look so fantastic mussed after a tryst or two? "I hope I'm not getting in your way, I'm as clumsy as a bear in a china shop in places like this."

I could not help but laugh at his comparing himself to a bear in a china shop. My eyes sparkled with mirth as I shook my head. "No indeed, my lord, you seem rather graceful enough, and you're certainly not in my way at all; I'm simply trying to look for... Well, something to send to my mama that smells pretty, and then oil for myself."
Glancing over, my eye fell on a bottle with a familiar-looking label. "Excuse me," I murmured with a glance up to the man as I picked up the bottle and, unstoppering it, lightly sniffed the cork. My eyes lit up. This was it, this was what Mama wore! Oh, what perfect luck!
Smiling up at the handsome man again, I stoppered the bottle once more. "Well!" I said, excited, "Now I have only to look for oil for myself, since I've just found the very scent my mama wears. I suppose I should thank you; if I hadn't stood to speak to you, I never would have found it! I'm very grateful," I said with a giggle.

The girl's words and the giggles that accompanied them were attractive in an innocent, sweet way and I smiled a bit rakishly as I watched her. There was grace in her movements and it was easy to see that she was pleased with what she'd found, though I really couldn't have cared one way or the other exactly what she picked up.
"Congratulations on completing your quest, fair maiden," I told her with a slight chuckle of my own as I glanced from her curves back up to her face again, not that a man could object to looking at someone so pretty as she was. "I'm glad to be of some more help if you want to look around more. What I want isn't likely to be over here anyway." That was true at least, because I didn't necessarily want anything that could be found here, at least not what was stocked on the shelves unless they hid other girls behind the bottles.

"My thanks, my lord," I said with a slight curtsy. "Now all I need is the oil for my own skin, and I can be on my way. But what scent to choose... That's probably where I'll need the help, if you would be so kind as to assist me."
Holding the bottle of perfume in my left hand, my pinky curled under, I put my right hand out to shake his hand. "I'm Cosette, by the way. Cosette de Manon."

The chance to choose how she'd smell? That wasn't something any hot-blooded man would be able to resist, not if they had any taste at all for women. Then again they smelled just fine to me so long as they were clean so it's not as though I'd be that picky about it either. Maybe that was a good thing, because it meant in the end I'd just agree with whatever she liked and she'd get what she wanted the most out of the deal.
When she offered her hand I took it gently and slightly shifted my grip to lightly kiss the back instead of shaking it, letting my charming smile spread a little wider. "Good to meet you, Cosette," I said as I brought her hand back from my lips. "I'm Emeric Deveroix and I'd be glad to help you find a scent to suit you. Do you think they've managed to bottle pure beauty yet? Because if so that's certainly what you should pick."

I blushed quite profusely at his words as his breath played over my knuckles. The words were beautiful and sweet, and whether he meant them in earnest or he was simply plying me with pretty words, I did not know. But I was always one to give people the benefit of the doubt. "It's very nice to meet you Emeric, and you're too kind, thank you! And I'm not really that picky; anything that doesn't smell like a whorehouse or a stable would be fine with me."
Smiling, I moved over to where the oils were; these were in bigger bottles, considering they were put on far more places on the body than perfume was. Glancing around, I saw a bottle of amber-scented oil and, picking it up, unstoppered it and sniffed the cork. Oh, that smelled wonderful; I loved it. It was perfect. Holding out the cork to Emeric, who I knew had followed me over by the sound of his footsteps, I smiled. "What do you think?" I asked.

As Cosette moved over toward the shelves with the larger bottles I watched her for a moment, noting the sway of her hips and rear before I followed her at a respectful distance and raised my eyes back toward something on the approaching wall. It's not as though I had to keep looking at her backside to imagine how it would move in some situations or outfits and if I thought too much about it no doubt it would have some side effects that I wasn't looking for anyway. No need to scare the sweet girl away.
Whatever was in the bottle she offered me smelled musky and sweet, a little heavy but then again it was almost a mug's worth of the stuff so maybe it would lighten a bit on the skin. Leaning back from the vessel just a bit I gave the attractive blonde a crooked grin. "Very nice, good enough to eat," I told her in a pleasant tone. "I'm a little surprised though, you seem like the kind of girl who would have worn something with flowers in it. This is better, but the only way to really know is to smell it on the skin though, isn't it?"

I smiled at his approval, but shook my head when he mentioned flowery scents. "No, I've never been one for smelling like a flower. I prefer simply smelling flowers to smelling like flowers," I said earnestly. "Flowery perfume actually makes me quite nauseous." I wrinkled my nose at the thought of them.
He had a rather valid point with putting it on my skin to smell it, and so I handed him the cork. "Care to do the honors?" I asked him with a grin.

The fact that little Cosette didn't want to smell like a bordello garden was a good thing as far as I was concerned and I smiled a bit wider at her answer. What's more she seemed to be flirting back a little bit and that was all to the good in my mind. Girls who were too full of themselves to admit that they found someone attractive could get tiresome, and the way she kept herself just a little bit coy about things was damn cute.
"I'd love to," I said in a slightly lower tone, taking the cork in one hand and then her wrist lightly in the other and turning it over to spread some of the oil that had pooled on the stopper over her wrist in a light brush up her arm. My smile was a bit more charming as I gently held her arm in place to blow across the oil slightly to allow it to sink in before I inhaled the scent from her skin. Very nice indeed, and it only made me more eager to see how far the little vixen would go. "It's perfect for you," I replied as I let go of her wrist. "See for yourself."

The sound of his voice was scintillating, lowered as it was. He moved closer and the contact of his hand against my wrist sent a shiver up my spine. I had to keep from licking my lips as he blew on my arm, and a light tingle started up in the pit of my stomach just watching him. He approved the scent, and so I moved the arm that wasn't holding the open bottle, turning it over and rubbing my inner arms together. The motion unwittingly pressed my breasts together, but I didn't even notice as I put my wrist up to my nose to smell for myself. The way my skin smelled seemed to compliment the light aroma, and I nodded with a smile.
"It seems to work quite well with the natural scent of my skin, and it will be nice to be able to put this on after a bath. Thank you very much for giving me your honest opinion, Emeric," I said sincerely. Not that I doubted he would be honest with me; I simply didn't want him to agree for no other reason than to placate me. But he simply didn't seem like that sort of man.
Taking the cork from him as he proferred it, I stoppered the oil once more and moved over to the merchant to pay for my purchases. Mama would be so surprised!

From the little bit of a flush that rose on the girl's skin I could see she hadn't exactly hated what I'd been doing- but then, who with any taste and any kind of inclination toward men would? When she pressed her wrists together I got a much clearer view of the curve of her breasts and waist and I smiled a bit wider for it. "You're very welcome for the opinion, and thank you for letting me help you with it," I replied with a wink, then watched as she moved over toward the counter and picked up some bottle at random and carried it in that direction as well. Dragon's Blood, that sounded masculine enough and even if it wasn't I could always pawn it off on my brother or Julie- or not, since Julie was dead. But this wasn't the time to think about my dead sister and the reminder of mortality only made me more eager to find some way to prove I was alive. "So, where's your family from?" I asked casually as I waited for her to finish her purchase.

"Namarre," I said with a smile back over my shoulder to him as the vendor put my purchases upright in a small cloth sack. "I lived on a horse farm there. It was beautiful, and the reason for my adoration of the animals."
Thanking the vendor with murmured words and a polite smile, I stepped to the side and waited for Emeric to be finished paying for his purchase. As he turned to me, I flashed him a deeper smile, my lips parting this time to reveal my upper row of straight, white teeth. "Since you've helped me so much, I feel I must repay you for your kindness. Have you anything in mind?" I asked him, innocently enough, though I wondered just where his mind would go for ideas of repayment. Stepping closer to him, I wrapped my arm around his and waited for him to lead, looking up at him expectantly.

Well, Namarre was a place I knew well enough, since I'd grown up there. "Me too, though not exactly on a horse farm. It's beautiful country though and I can see how it rubbed off on you in more ways than one," I replied with a wink as I set my own bottle down and then paid for it before taking the bag that the cashier offered me.
And the sweet, pretty girl made such a lovely offer too- one that it would have taken a far more stupid man than I to refuse. "Well, if you want to go out for a drink with me I wouldn't refuse that," I told her with a charming smile, shifting the bag in my hands so she could take my arm and bringing her just a little closer. "Unless there's something else you wish I would ask for in repayment."

"Oh, a drink would be nice... to start."
I looked up at him as my breast brushed against his arm and grinned. "We can always see where it goes after a drink or two." He seemed rather sure of himself and I fleetingly wondered what he would be like in bed, not realizing my line of thought shone on my face.

Her statement left a pretty wide opening and I was willing to jump into it headfirst, especially when her breast brushed against my arm in that delightfully enticing way that was pretty clear. She wanted to end up in bed with me, or somewhere else equally convenient, and I was more than willing to have a few good drinks and then oblige her.
"Well, drinks are always a good starting place and that's the best plan I've heard all day," I said in a slightly lower tone, my lips brushing against her ear as I spoke before I straightened again. "So let's go find a place to get that process started." There were a few different bars I'd seen on my way here and all of them were reputable enough, at least by my standards, and a few of them even had rooms to rent for a time if things got really interesting in the midst of the drinking. It was a win-win situation.

"I follow your lead, Emeric," I said a trifle breathlessly, the light brush of his lips against my ear sending a tingle of awareness through me as we moved through the door and out onto the street. I didn't know where he would take me but I was content to go with him. After all, it wasn't every day one encountered a handsome man in a perfume shoppe. ...Or was it?
