Dear Chloe:

It' seems like a forever since we last saw one another, or exchanged words, but it has only been moments since I thought of you. It always is. You're debut is rapidly approaching and I want to wish you the best. If only I could somehow see you there, looking as beautiful as always. But we can't think about the impossible, but instead the present we must learn to be grateful for.

The reason it has taken so long to write is because I have been on the streets for a while. But thanks to Elua's providence I've found a job as a messenger for a fine lady, Lessandrie Mereloit. She is the epitome of kindness. I've also made some friends in high places and and very thankful for the turn of events. My only regret is not being able to see you. Please write to me soon.

Dear Eric,

You have no idea how happy I was to get your letter! It had been so long since we spoke that I feared the worst had happened and that I would never hear from you again.

It is so wonderful to hear that you have found a position with such a prominent family. I knew you would do well, you are so smart and good, someone out there had to see it and take you on.

I wish I could see you too. I can admit to you what I can’t to others; I am so worried about my debut. The Dowayne says there has not been any interest as yet and I am beginning to fear it will never happen. I will die of shame if I bring such disgrace on Alyssum… the adept no one wants.

Don't be afraid of such things. You are beautiful, kind, sweet, everything our house esteems. I have no doubt you will become the most popular girl in the house. Keep in mind Alyssum dosen't get a lot of attention anyway.

I had a thought, probably one too grand to think about. But it was this: if only I could arrange for someone to bid for you, someone who would then allow us to meet. It is a fantasy I know, but a wonderful one.

My life is quiet right now, both a joy and an annoyance. I miss everyone at Alyssum, you above all.

Dearest Eric,
Thank you for the encouragement, it does help, but I still can’t stop worrying. As worried as I am, I am also a little afraid of what will happen if someone does contract me. I know I worry too much, you’ve always said that.

I am still so very relieved to hear that you have found a good, safe home and someone kind to work for. I smile every time I think of you now, knowing you are safe. I miss you too, so very, very much.
