Dearest Yves,
I have to apologize for the length of my silence, but I hope you've been better than just well and that business has been slow for you. I admit, I loathe the idea that you're ever placed in any danger; it's selfish of me, but I cannot help it.
Tragedy has befallen the Hughes family. Shortly after the last time you and I had talked I received a visit from a gentleman who informed me that while traveling through Azzalle, Damien came across a family under attack from a small group of bandits. Two of them were slain, but unfortunately Damien and the father of the family were killed as well... It's an awful thing, but Damiens actions helped save the mother and children from the same demise. His carriage driver herded them into Damiens carriage and guarded them; once the remaining two bandits had what they wanted, they left.
I'm sad for him, for his aunt, for the entire Hughes line, but there is none left that I am aware of. Damien had left everything to me - something I hadn't known that he'd already planned on and set up. The two bandits who survived ransacked Damiens pockets as well as the wagon; my time has been split between watching the windows in the case they track him back here, and settling affairs of the estate.
I am sorry for the long silence though; I should have written sooner. I miss you and your laughter. I hope this letter finds you in good health, and that your darling daughters are doing just as well.
Affectionately, Aurianne

Dear Aurianne,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. While it sounds as if Damien met his demise admirably, I am sure that is cold comfort for you, as is the inheritance of his estate. I am concerned, however, that you believe there is a possibility that the rogues that perpetrated this act could possibly come after you. If I am not overstepping my bounds, do you have security there at your home?
Please do not apologize, I suppose I too have been silent, allowing the days to drift by without coming to see you, though you are oft in my thoughts. As for Julia and Claire, they are well, and in fact, are becoming more precocious by the day, it seems.
I hope it is not too forward of me to say that I miss you and that I hope to see you again soon.
Yours always,
Yves

Darling Yves,
Please, don't apologize; this wasn't anyones fault. Damien had a heart too large for three men let alone one; I'm evidence of that if nothing else. He managed to save others, and I have pride in him for that, though the house seems too big and empty now knowing he'll never return to it. It's not my house, even if papers say otherwise... mayhap that sounds silly, though.
I'm touched that you'd be concerned about my safety, but regrettably no, I have no one here save for the servants and myself. I've been staying in the downstairs bedroom, though; if there's a problem I should like to think I could escape easily enough.
I miss you too, more every day that passes. You have a standing invitation to visit whenever you'd like - I'd love it if you brought your daughters as well, truth be. There's precious little laughter in the house even before news of Damien came, and I look forward to meeting them, whenever you feel comfortable enough with it. I miss seeing you, talking to you.
Adoringly, Aurianne
