Character Played By (the person in your avatar): Craig Horner
Name: Emeric Gauvain Deveroix
Title: None
Age: 22
Race (Lineage Origin): d'Angeline (Namarrese)
Gender: Male
Height: 5'11
Home Province/Country: Namarre
Appearance (1-2 Paragraphs): There's very little about Emeric that could be found as a fault, at least physically. He's not as tall as his older brother Kendrick but is just as well-built from years of mercenary work and travel. His features are a bit less drawn with age than his brother's are but his hair is just as dark and he keeps it short so it's free from his hazel eyes. His features are handsome and tend to be pleasant and when he's in a good mood he wears a crooked grin and his eyes flash in mirth. When he moves it's with a bit of cocky confidence and his hands are calloused from the use of swords and other weapons in battle.
Personality (1-2 Paragraphs): Confident to the point of cockiness there is a competitive streak to Emeric that actually makes him work hard enough to back up all of the big talk he spends his time doing and makes him good at his job. Like most mercenaries there is a part of him that's always concerned with the bottom line of every deal he makes, which takes the place of any inherent ambition he may have possessed, and his wanderlust has taken him as far as the edges of Ruskovia, taking what jobs and pleasure he could at every location before he moved on. There's a subtle kind of intelligence to him that's generally masked by his blunt way of speaking and tendency to show off.
History (At least 2 detailed Paragraphs): The second born son of the Deveroix family Emeric was never the quiet child or the studious one, always trying to find a way to get into some mischief or other and attract the attention of his parents and older brother Kendrick. Being only about two years apart in age the two often played together when his more responsible elder sibling wasn't learning the ways of the estate and on the arrival of their younger siblings he easily accepted them. Julie, with her more flamboyant nature, was a bit closer to him than Vincent was but the household was a loving one and he never really knew tragedy or want.
All of that changed when Emeric was ten years old and their mother died in a tragic carriage accident that changed Vincent to someone almost unrecognizable- and made their father withdrawn and only half as attentive. Kendrick coped with it in his own way, while Emeric became even wilder and more drastic in his attempts for attention which were only half-successful. He remained close to his family but once it was obvious that his home was no longer the place it had been when he was a child he's started thinking of leaving to make his own way in the world. With no title to inherit there was little holding him back and he left shortly after his sixteenth birthday.
Once he was on his journey there was very little to stop him and he gave himself completely over to his choice of vocation, using the money he'd set off with to get more extensive fighting training and, after a time, he started taking guard and mercenary jobs across the lands outside of Terre d'Ange. Alba, Eire, the Flatlands, Skaldia, even to the edges of wild Ruskovia called to him and he never learned to resist the wanderlust. Though he knew he should return at least once in awhile there was always just one more thing to do, followed by another, and before he quite realized it six years had passed. Every so often he remembered to send letters to Julie, as she was the one who would be the loudest about him not doing so, but after a time that stopped as well.
Now that his burning need to see the world has calmed a bit and he's made a good enough name for himself- as well as a decent amount of money- Emeric has decided to come back to the land of his birth and see how his family has fared. He knows nothing of what has happened in the six years since his departure and only hopes to find them well, spend some time there and then see what happens, venturing back into the world again if nothing else catches his fancy. In the back of his mind he knows that he will eventually have to settle down but at twenty-two that idea still seems very far away and he's more eager to see how he fares in society than to bind himself to a household of his own.
