Name: Satori nó Jasmine, Second of Jasmine House
Age: 28
Height: 6’
Gender: Male
Race: D’Angeline/Ch’in (Eisandrine)
Home Province: L’Agnace
Appearance: A strange and stunning mix of his ancestry; Satori is probably the best of both worlds one could have. His hair is deep brown, but more often reported as black by those that know him, it’s kept very short as Satori has never been one for trends and simply prefers it to longer hair. His eyes are much like his hair, reportedly black till one comes closer to them and sees a deep brown. Despite his Ch’in heritage, Satori managed to get his father’s tall muscular build making him much larger then his pure blooded kin. With pale skin and angelic face, most would not ever recognize him as anything but D’Angeline, except that Satori’s eyes are more almond shape, and he has the ability to grow copious amounts of facial hair. These traits are likely the only reason one would be able to really know that he’s not full D’Angeline.
History: Satori’s grandfather was a soldier but rebelled against the government of the Emperor during a time of political strife. At twenty two he and his pregnant wife fled to one of the largest islands off Ch’in’s coast to flee persecution from the Emperor’s men. Soon his wife birthed their first child Mai. Eventually Mai grew and moved back to the mainland during her late teens in search of work, instead she found Luc. Luc had been a soldier in the Queen’s Army till he was relieved of duties due to injuries, but deciding he did not wish to return to his family, he took to traveling. It wasn’t long before he fell into the spice trade finding work where he could, which eventually brought him to the markets of Ch’in; that was where he and Mai met.
Despite her family’s interjections, Mai decided to marry Luc, and within a season she was with child. The couple was happy, but more political strife broke out within the city’s walls; Luc decided that they should return back to his home land where he would have better luck giving a life to his family. So they booked passage with a caravan, and began the long journey to Terre d’Ange. The trip went well for the most part, until they reached Caerdicci Unitas; once at port Mai garnered stares and lascivious words from the other foreign men at port. During the night, the pair was attacked and though he fought them off to save his wife and unborn child, Luc was injured further. They managed to escape the country that next day, mostly unscathed, but when they reached Luc’s family’s estate in Eisande, Luc’s injuries turned septic and he died not two week after. Mai was heart broken, and not to mention feeling completely out of place with Luc’s family. She barely spoke any D’Angeline, and Luc’s family was less then eager to accept Mai as part of their family; especially since they blamed her for their son’s death. Her late husband’s family convinced her to travel with them to the City of Elua in order to give birth there; she went, only to be abandoned. Mai gave birth to Satori some weeks later, in the alley in Night’s Doorstep; aided only by a tavern owner and his wife who had heard the screams in the middle of the night. After hearing Mai’s story, the tavern owners decided to let her stay at their inn about the tavern; giving her a job as a bar matron once she was on her feet. Sadly though the stress of her life took a toll on her body, and by the time her son was 5 she was gravely ill and unable to work. The tavern owners suggested to Mai that she send her son to the Night Court. In spite of not entirely understanding the concept of the being an adept, she went, going to Jasmine House on the advice of her boss. The Dowayne of Jasmine was a bit leery at the presence of the awkward looking child. He had fuzzy hair and was a little chubby, showing no signs of his father’s D’Angeline lineage; she wasn’t very sure the child would ever be attractive enough for the Night Court. Mai begged and pleaded to take him in, at least to give him a job on staff should he not grow to be a handsome boy. Feeling sorry for the girl, the Dowayne took Satori in and promised to give him a good life.
Regardless of the Dowayne’s prediction that he would not be attractive enough, Satori grew to be handsome indeed. By eight he began to show promise, loosing his baby weight, growing taller and taller every day, his D’Angeline breeding began to show through and every where he went he drew attention from his looks. At ten he was properly dedicated and at sixteen debuted to acclaim during a private auction; that year his virginity was the highest paid debut of all the adepts in the House. All the women loved Satori, naturally charming and strikingly handsome, he quickly became a favourite, and by twenty he had finished his marque. It wasn’t a hard for Cassander to choose his good friend as Second of the House.
Satori does his best to stay connected to his mother’s heritage; he speaks Ch’in and practices the martial arts of his home land. These martial arts are what help him to keep in peak physical form, giving his body an alluring shape that it’s always pleasant to look at. He is not much of a reader, though he did well in his classes; he’s far better suited to hand on pursuits, which actually, literally, leaded him to pursuit some of the healing arts of his home land. With the permission of the old Dowayne, when he was younger Satori contracted the help of a Ch’in healer in the city to help him train in aroma’s, acupressure, and massage. Unfortunately the money was out of his own pocket, and was part of the reason that Satori had to wait till he was twenty to make his marque. Along with his martial arts, Satori likes tumbling, something he was taught by a friend at Eglantine House, and he knows magic tricks as well, something he picked up from a friend at Gentian. One of Satori’s best traits is his ability to make friends fast, and since he lacked a bonded family as a child, he sees all of the Night Court as his family, creating many friendships from many different members of each house. He is a natural at bartering, figuring his mother could have sent him to Bryony and he would have fit in there too, its often how Satori has gathered extracurricular education like his magic tricks and tumbling. Prone to either talk too much around people he’s close with, or shy away around people he doesn’t know, Satori can easily be charming and often blushes at the attentions of women. Most notable about him is that Satori only has interest in women, despite being propositioned by men on a regular basis; he has yet to find an interest in it.
As far as his childhood went, Satori doesn't remember much of it. Only a few months after making his home at Jasmine, the tavern owner that his mother had worked for arrived baring a letter, a coffer, and the news that Mai had passed. Satori doesn't even remember crying. He doesn't think often about it, reckoning that his mother never would have wanted him to be sad. The items that came into his posession after her death were quite simple. A small carved box containing a matching ring and pendant made of jade, a letter that was from his mother's father to her when she left, a parchment containing his father's last name and the name of Satori's family through his father, and a letter from Luc to Satori written from his death bed. That, along with the letter from his mother, is all his worldly posessions, deeming anything else to be unnecessary. Satori once dreamed of a day that he might be able to return to Ch'in and find his family, but after he was offered the position of Second, that hope faded. To the very occasional few he tells this to; Satori is very closed off about his family and there for never really talks about it.
