Scrub the floors in the bathtub. Don’t forget the new mixture.
Shipment of fruits today. Need to be kept somewhere cool. The wine was discounted at the market, overheard by patrons gossiping.
Erin’s button looks loose, sew it soon before it falls out.
Proceed with caution for the new--
“Emelius.”
My train of thought had been lost by someone speaking, halfway between pouring the glasses of wine for another of the adepts to take out to the patrons in the waiting room. I made sure each one had the exact amount, filled up to a line I could see in my mind’s eye, perfectly symmetrical on the round tray, positioned evenly from one another. Even as someone else spoke to me and even as I ran this errand, my mind was a buzz with other things that needed to be catalogued mentally and done as soon as I could spare a moment. Tonight Alyssum was having a showing and it was tonight that I got to show my true value. No, it was not my showing of course not, I was much too old for that, but here, in the back room organizing the entire affair and making sure that no one spilled a single drop was my business. It was where I thrived.
“Excuse me for a moment,” I said turning to the younger adept who had a parchment for me, no doubt further instructions from our Dowayne about something in particular for preparations while we all busied ourselves. “Erin, tray horizontal to the floor or you’ll ruin the wine’s presentation, Abner, please, for Elua’s sake take those out before they get cold, we want to serve them fresh. Don’t stand around those dishes need to get finished!” I barked this all, unabashed as many of my housemates scattered about. I did not mind taking charge, being the leader, especially not in this circumstance. This is where Emelius Laserge--Emelius no Alyssum absolutely dominated.
I took in a deep breath, taking the paper from the younger adept as I skimmed it, finishing off pouring the wine with my free hand, my eyes flicking back and forth to multitask before I folded the paper and put it in my breast pocket.
“Alright everyone, please be on your toes the showing is in ten minutes,” I called, adjusting a loose hair I felt (not saw) get out of place as I picked up my tray, straightened my back and headed out with absolute precision.
