I had to get used to people asking about that, as much as I didin't want to remember. "Well, there are a lot of people your own age, and it's a lot of learning, nearly everything under the sun. For my house too I had to learn how to control my personality, to act shy, even when the desire for someone is so strong you don't think you can hold back anymore."

I blinked. "Really?" I asked, dumfounded. "Well Eric, I'm sorry to have to be the one to tell you this, but that just sounds horrible," I said with a teasing grin. More seriously, though, I sincerely asked, "Wouldn't you be miserable not being able to ever show much emotion?"

I shrugged. "It's not that I'm not showing emotion, it's just a different type of flirting, one I was already used to. They just taught me how to use it better. Part of me is glad I'm not held to it any longer though, though I wish it was due to different circumstances."

"I wish so too, my friend," I said. I knew at least a bit about the Night Court, enough to know that if an adept was flawed in any way, that individual could not make their debut.
"I do hope you don't think I'm prying then, but I'm awfully curious; since it was pre-debut, do you or did you still have to make your marque, or were you simply... tossed away?" I cringed and glanced apologetically at him, knowing my words were harsh but, with my limited d'Angeline, having no other way to explain myself. I highly doubted the lad new Cruithne, anyway.

I bit my lip before answering her. "No, I was just thrown out. I had already cost them a good deal of money, so they didn't see fit to give me anything, other than a prayer of blessing." I shrugged. "It's in the past though."

My jaw locked in anger. "You know," I fumed, "I wholly understand that if you're physically or otherwise marred the House can't do much with you and have no way to recoup the cost of your marque but really, you couldn't have stayed on as a servant? They couldn't have at least offered?!"
I tried keeping my voice low but it rose a bit with my anger.

I could sense her anger and reached out a gentle hand to touch her arm. "Don't be upset in my account. I don't think I could've bared to have stayed on there in any form. Things have happened for the best."

Sighing, I wrestled my anger under control and grinned sheepishly. I grazed his hand with my fingertips absentmindedly, smiling inwardly at the ring on my finger; a sapphire set in a dragon's claw, and thought of my unlikely protector.
"Well," I joked to him, "If you couldn't tell that I'm Eiran, that temper tantrum ought to have made it pretty obvious. My apologies for my reaction; it simply seems so unfair. Then again, I suppose life is simply not fair sometimes."

I moved my hand so to hold hers. "No need to apologize, but thank you. You care very much about protecting people, justice. No one can blame you for that, now can they?" I smiled and shifted a little.

I shook my head and grinned appreciatively, squeezing his hand companionably. "Aye, I suppose you've got a point. As long as you're fine with how things turned out, I suppose I can stop being loud and agitating."
My belly grumbled and I looked up at the sun. "Hm. It's lunchtime. Care to get something to eat with me?" I asked him with a friendly smile. "I figure it's the least I can do to repay you for tolerating my outbursts."

I smiled and gave her a nod. "That sounds like a fantastic idea to me. Do you have any particular place in mind?"

Shrugging helplessly, I shook my head. "I'm afraid I don't really know where much is in the city; I've simply been wandering until I either find myself lost or ask someone if they would be so kind to direct me. With my accent, people find me near-impossible to understand."
Rolling my eyes, I grinned. "How about you? Have you got a certain place you enjoy freuenting?"

"Hmm, not particularly. I've never really eaten anywhere outside of Alyssum, or Lessandrie's home. I know where places are to eat and could probably find good one though. It'll just mean a little bit more walking," I explained.

I laughed. "Well, I'm always up for walking! Shall we explore? I only hope you know the City far better than I do or Elua knows where we'll end up," I joked.

I stood up and offered my hand to help her. "I know it fairly well. I don't think we'll get lost. Just hope that I am right." I grinned and glanced around me. The artisans district usually had good food, but there might be other places as well. But we could at least head in that general direction.

I laughed and allowed him to help me out, brushing my skirts off. "Well, if we get lost, at least we'll be lost together and we won't be lonely, "I pointed out teasingly. "So where are we headed? I might actually get lucky and know where you're talking about for once." Shaking my head at myself, I fell into step beside him.

"Towards the Artisans district," I told her. "I know there are a few little cafes and shops for food there, or we might encounter something along the way." I shrugged.

I nodded and tried to picture where that would be from where we were. "We're out of luck; I have no idea where that is from here," I shrugged back, a small grin on my face. It was frustrating to not know where anything was. "I suppose, in time, I'll learn."

I smiled. "No problem. Though it means you'll just have to trust me." I chuckled and glanced at her. "You will. It took me a few weeks to find my way around the city. I'm sure it will take you even less time than that."

"Oh aye lad, I trust you implicitly, now that you have that dagger in your boot," I joked. The trees were beginning to give way to more buildings and I glanced around interestedly, trying my hardest to commit things to memory. Never one for names of lanes, I always went by landmarks and buildings.
"I'm sure I'll pick it up soon enough, once I set to trying to remember it." I shrugged sheepishly. I probably should be trying harder, especially if a Skaldi was around and in hiding somewhere...
Gods and goddesses, I was becoming paranoid. I rolled my eyes at myself.

I nodded. "No doubt you will." My returned to the subject of food for a moment and I asked, "What type of food might you be interested in?"

I frowned, thinking. "I suppose I'm not really picky. Mayhap sandwiches, or something along those lines? I, um... I haven't had much of a differentiation in food for the last two years, so I don't really know what there is in the City," I mumbled. I was getting tired of thinking of it all the time, and having it be the reason for everything.

I tapped my chin and gave her a playful look. "Well, sandwiches it is! We should be able to find a small little deli or something along those lines." As we drew closer I began to keep my eyes peeled for anything along those lines.

I grinned at his infectious positivity. It was difficult to be anything other than, at the very least, content around Eric. "I thought you knew where most everything is, messire?" I asked him, a teasing note in my voice. I was glad he was good-natured and laid-back. Not many could handle my jokes as often as I made them.

"Well I know the general things... I haven't taken the time to memorize all the buildings though." Of course no sooner had I said this than the very thing we were in search of appears, a deli, small and whitewashed with a simply delightful scent drifting from the cracks in the door and windows. "I think we've found our place, no?"

"Perfect!" I nodded in agreement. "See? I'm glad I had faith in you." I lightly rested my hand on his shoulder and gave a gentle squeeze. "Next time I need someone to help me with directions in the city, I'm coming to you," I joked. The place smelled delicious, I was glad we'd found it. We? I was glad he'd found it.

I blushed a little and then said, "Well I'll always try to do my best." I opened the door of the deli for her and walked inside after she did. It was perfect. Meats of all types lined the walls. And there was some bread in the corner so a person could craft his or her own sandwiches.

I glanced around as we walked in, smiling at his answer. "This is perfect," I said quietly, mostly to myself, as I took in all the different meats. Noticing the bread, I pointed. "Look there, for sandwiches I assume. I can honestly say I've never been in a place like this, so you may have to help the inexperienced Eiran here," I joked sheepishly.

I chuckled and gave her a kind look. "No problem, my friend." I bit my lip and started to walk to the counter. First though I looked back. "I can order for you of you like Fion."

"I would appreciate that; barely anyone in the City has been understanding me." I thought of the way Leon and I had met and how he'd helped me in the market and my heart flipped. Grinning, I shook my head. "I like any sort of meat, really, and have no preference over anything else. I haven't eaten d'Angeline fare in years. Would you choose for me as well?"
