In the week or so following my first night with Evangeline, I was filled with such self-loathing that I longed to sleep for hours, or throw up, or just drop dead on my feet. I hated myself for giving in to her, hated that I had proved my stupid, evil father right about me. I did hate him, hated him for abandoning my mother and me, but I wanted his love more than anything else. I truly felt as though I were being torn into a million little pieces, and so on the pretense of an errand I snuck off to the Sanctuary of Eisheth, looking for a little peace.

Having been in the city for just about a week, I'd been slowly exploring the city, and being in something of a contemplative mood, I decided to pay a visit to the temple of Eisheth. I was not in need of healing, particularly, but fancying myself something of a musician, I'd always been somewhat drawn to the Companion who had given our people music in addition to the gifts of medicine and fertility.
As I entered the sanctuary, my sapphire eyes drifted here and there curiously, having never been to a proper temple of Eisheth, let alone one so grand, and so he was fairly distracted. Distracted enough that I nearly ran into an ashe-blond woman of smoldering beauty. Backing up a step, I told her with a bow of my head, "I apologize, my Lady. I should have been paying better attention to where I was going."

I moved, startled, as I took in the pretty boy lordling who'd nearly knocked me over. "By all means, knock me over, m'lord," I said. "Maybe you will knock into my head the peace I'm looking for."

Her words puzzled me somewhat, with her talk of knocking peace into her. Biting my bottom lip a moment, I looked her over a bit more closely, concern in my sapphire eyes. "Truly, my lady, I am sorry. If you are hurt somehow, I will do whatever necessary to make amends," I told her, meeting her gaze intently, "I should have known to watch where I was going, in a place I've never been."

I sighed. "I'm sorry, my lord, my harshness is no fault of yours. I've had...well, to say it's been a bad week would be an understatement."

"Oh, well, if you can accept my apology for being a blind lummox and nearly knocking you over, then I don't see why I can't accept yours for being a bit harsh with me for it," I told her, giving her a small smile and doing my best to keep my eyes on her face rather than allowing them to wander downward, though I caught myself slipping from time to time.
Normally, I would not have thought to pry into the business of a stranger, but perhaps it was the spirit off the Companion whose temple we were in that made me offer her, "I don't know, of course, what's made your week so bad, but if a sympathetic ear would help, I wouldn't mind." Shaking my head slightly as I realized I had forgotten to introduce myself, I went on to add a bit sheepishly, "Sorry, I am Leon d'Essoms, the Comte d'Essoms."

He was ogling me, most men do. When he introduced himself, I almost recoiled. I was a servant. I wasn't supposed to confide in lords. Not only that, my true nature made it impossible for me to confide in anyone. "I, ah, pleasure to meet you, my lord d'Essoms," I said. "My name is, Yvette. Yvette Lenier. I'm a servant of the Baron de Landsby." Fake name, fake employer. The Baron was real, but he was ill and living out his last days in Kusheth. At least now I was untraceable.

I'd no idea who this baron was that she spoke of. However, that was no surprise, given my rather recent return to the realm. "A pleasure to meet you, Madamoiselle Lenier," I responded, smiling as I inclined my head toward her slightly. She didn't seem to be too eager to confide in me, however, so I went on to tell her, "I did not mean to pry, however."

"My lord is free to ask whatever he wishes," I said noncommittally. "I am trying to find the main temple. Do you know which direction it is in?"

I really was not certain what to make of this woman, other than that she must have been quite honest about having had a bad week. At her question, however, I had to shake my head. "I'm afraid I don't, actually. I am seeking the same place, but this is my first time to come see the temple," I explained, then added with a soft chuckle, "I'd been hoping you might be able to point the way for me."

"Well, maybe we can help one another," I said. "Let's see if we can find a path, or something."

Her suggestion was more than reasonable, considering that we were both seeking the same place, and so I nodded softly. "Ok, let's see what we can find, then," I agreed with her as I looked about the gardens of the temple. With little else to go on, I realized there was a path leading around the building, perhaps toward the main entrance to the large temple. Nodding my head toward that path, I remarked, "Maybe this will lead us where we need to go?"

"No harm in trying," I said, before moving to stride down the path. I walked with him, of course, but at his pace, more like a man than a girl. I wasn't exactly raised to be ladylike.

I had, initially, slowed my pace, as I'd been taught to do when walking alongside a lady. When I noticed how quick Yvette's pace was, I sped up to my own normal stride. "Would it be too personal to ask what brings you to the temple?" I asked her politely as we walked along the path together; some people came to temples for very personal reasons, after all, and the last thing I wanted to do was seem as if I were prying still further.

"Work can be very...stressful," I said. "I came here to seek some peace, so I might return to work with a clear mind." I looked to him. "And what bring you here, my lord?"

I nodded understandingly at her words; stress came into everyone's life at some point, after all, and there was no reason for me to press for specifics. "Well, I certainly hope you find the peace you need here, Madamoiselle," I offered with a soft smile directed at her before answering her question, "I've never had the chance to visit a temple of Eisheth, and I guess I fancy myself something of a musician. So I've come to make an offering to the Lady who gave us all the gift of music."

"Oh? What instrument do you play?" I asked.

"I've been playing the harp since I was a child. Its...soothing," I told her, keeping up with her much more easily now that I was not slowing myself on purpose. "For all the pleasure I've taken from it, I figured I should come and give my thanks," I added as I glanced ahead at the path, noticing that it became more clearly defined as we grew closer to the temple.

"Is there no temple to Eisheth where you are from?" I asked.

"Only a small shrine. My lands are in a very rural part of the province, so the only real temples of any size I saw growing up were to Elua and Namaah," I explained to her as we continued along the path, "At least until I got to Tiberium, but none of those temples were for Elua or any of the Companions."

I frowned. "You'll pardon my ignorance, but who do they worship in Tiberium?" I asked.

"No need for pardon, I'm happy to talk about it," I said, smiling softly at her as we continued to walk, "They worship the same gods as they did during the time of the Imperium, for the most part. Which were really just Hellenic gods with different names."

My face registered my confusion. "And those gods would be..."
