When word reached us of the Queen's death, we were at dinner. Erie's family had welcomed me with open arms, and though it was so very different from my own, I felt at home here. Perhaps especially here, where no one looked at me askance, with wondering glances about what it was that drew me to a Shahrizai. Maybe they didn't understand, it wasn't his family name, it was him. Erie's brand of cruelty wasn't cruel at all. Rough, sometimes. Painful, certainly. Sublime, always. I never felt awkward here, as if my nightly screams were out of place, and it only strengthened my love for him, being here where he was made.
That night, we were discussing Erie's estate, the future of it, as he had always assumed it would pass to Eros. Now that we were wed and my candle lit, things had changed a bit. It didn't matter to me, though. My family had enough, I needed not lands or titles, and I was sure that Erie felt the same. No decisions were made however, because we were interrupted with the news. The Queen had been poisoned, and the Dauphin as well, though he was alive, barely. Shock silenced us, and the news of the upcoming funeral was enough to put me off of leaving straight from Kusheth to Tiberium. Instead would head back to the City and leave from there, after the funeral.
The rest of the night was somber and even the kiss of Erie's crop against my skin could not truly cheer me up, though not for lack of trying, and it was with heave hearts that we left his family home the very next morning, bound first for the Verais estate, and then for the City.
