The walk back to my house was about the same as always, quiet and filled with the murmur of songs that ran through my head, calling to my attention various things. As I had company though they tended to be polite and leave their voices on the quiet side, though there was the small, constant, questioning hum about the person I was walking beside. It was my Shahrizai nature to get the sense of people when it was possible, but as yet there was very little to piece together. The mystery was intriguing.
"And now we're here," I said in a pleasant tone as I stepped in the gate and toward my front door. My house wasn't the largest in the area or the most prominent but there was a kind of stately, dark grace to it and I always had flowers blooming no matter the expense. "Ready to go inside?" I asked Laurent sedately, my skirts flowing around me in the slight breeze and the sense of being on my own, familiar land filling me with controlled calm.

I was relieved to at last arrive. Truth be told I hate walking without something to be doing. I nodded to her politely, waiting for her to enter first. In my mind I rehearsed all the various scenarios that might happen to us, from the favorite to the dull.

My door opened silently and I stepped into my house, then to the side to hold the door for him so he could step in. Everything here was peaceful, at least in the front rooms, and the song I heard when I looked around was a clear note of pretty soprano, like my own but as peaceful as a meadow stream. "Please come in," I said with all of the pleasant politeness of a good hostess, though my eyes flashed in interest as I watched him to see if he was at all worried about walking into a Shahrizai's den.

There was no sense of hesitation in me as I walked into the house. "Thank you. It's a nice home you have." My eyes were back on her as soon as they had a nice peek at the interior of the room.
