“There have been several times when I thought they had all flown back off me, only to discover one in the cuff of my pants, or riding on the edge of my ear,” I told her, laughing.
We began walking again and came upon a small pond with lilies floating on the surface. “I’ve always liked lilies,” I said, smiling. “Especially the water ones.”

"They're small enough that they could be sneaky bugs if they wanted," I said in agreement as I chuckled, then looked over at the water and smiled widely. "Wow, they really are fantastic, but so is everything here." Giving him a glance and a smile I then walked to the edge of the pond and knelt down to look more closely at one of the water lillies near the shore. "I've always wondered how they can manage to grow without being in any soil."

“They are actually in soil,” I answered, kneeling down beside her. “They only appear to be floating free. The roots themselves are either plated in the bottom of the pond or in a container set beneath the water.”

"That explains it then," I said, laughing lightly as I turned my head to look at Sebastien again for a moment. He really was very smart and handsome as well, though everyone here still seemed so. "I wonder which it is in this case." Leaning forward just a bit more I reached out to the water lily and pushed it lightly with my fingertip to let it drift just slightly out of the way and peered down through the water.

It was hard to see far enough through the water to tell, so I pushed up my sleeve and reached down into the water, gently feeling along the stem of the lily and downward.
“A pot,” I told her after a moment, giving her a smile.

When he reached into the water I watched interestedly, then smiled at his pronoucement. It seemed he wasn't scared to get his hands dirty. "Thank you for letting me know- I was actually thinking of doing the same myself to find out for sure," I told Sebastien with a light laugh. "Is it just a pot resting on the bottom?"

“It is. The bottom seems to be stonework and I could feel the edge of a pot,” I told her, smiling as I dried my hand on my pants.

Random Event: A shower has rolled through to the north of the characters, leaving in it's wake a blooming rainbow against a stormy-dark sky.

"So it's a pond that was put here on purpose, just the way it, was to show the flowers," I said cheerfully, nudging the water lily again with my fingertip and watching it float before I looked up. Some clouds in the distance were dim and grey but against them it was easy to pick up the colors of the spreading rainbow. "Oh wow, look at that," I said with a wider grin and gestured toward it.

“Oh, that’s so beautiful,” I said, my voice holding a touch of awe. “Rainbows always get me to stop in my tracks. They are so incredible.”

"I know what you mean, they're simply wonderful," I said with a grin, glancing sideways to take in his expression of wonder before I looked back at the rainbow and sat back on my heels so I could settle more comfortably. "And rainbows are supposed to be good luck too. What do you think?"

I considered her words for a moment. “Well, I always feel lucky to see one, so does that count?” I asked with a grin.

"I think so," I replied with a laugh of my own, glancing at him again. He really was very handsome and easy to talk to. "Though I think it's supposed to apply to most luck in general. I already feel pretty lucky myself but more can never hurt, right?"

“Very true,” I agreed, chuckling. “Though I am not sure how much luckier I could get right now, surrounded by all this wonderful flora and sharing it with a beautiful, smart, curious lady like you. Any more luck and I might break apart.”

His words drew a faint flush of pleasure at the flattery and I laughed lightly and grinned as I pushed some hair behind my ear. "I've never heard of luck breaking anyone, but as I'm sitting here with such a handsome man in such a beautiful setting maybe I should worry about the same thing," I replied in a teasing, gently flirtatious tone.

“Hmm, well perhaps then we should stay close so that if one of us does start to break, the other can give aid,” I suggested, smiling and giving her a wink.

"Or at least pick up the last bits and pieces," I agreed with a laugh and a wink of my own. "Otherwise something important might get lost and that would make it more difficult to be put back together again. Like the old nursery rhyme."

“Yes, that sounds like just the plan,” I said, grinning. Standing, I offered her my hand to help her up. “Shall we go see what other treasures the garden holds?”

"That sounds wonderful, thank you," I said with a grin and a light laugh, taking his hand and rising gracefully while using my free hand to brush the grass and leaves from my skirt. "What would you like to see next? There must be something special that's caught your eye."

I looked around, searching for the next thing for us to go look at. “Hmmm, well I think the next thing will be that way,” I said, grinning and pointing to the part of the trail we’d not been on yet.

"That would be very sneaky of those flowers, hiding over there," I joked with a laugh and a grin of my own as I started to walk in that direction at a sedate pace. There was so much to see here that it was going to take more than one trip to let it all sink in, but that only made it a more compelling reason to return again. "Are the gardens where you're from like this, Sebastien?"

“The gardens at home are not as fancy and sculpted as this,” I answered as we walked. “We have fields and fields of flowers, then smaller vegetable gardens. What about at your home?”

"In Serenissima the gardens were like this, but the flowers were a bit more tropical because it's so much warmer there," I replied, picturing it with a smile. "And there were many pools and fountains as well. The garden at my house are like this, I guess, but smaller and let to run a little more wild- and has my two new kittens roaming in it." At that I laughed. "But that's a usual thing for anywhere I live."

“Kittens? How wonderful!” I said with a grin. “We have dozens of cats at home; they help keep the varmints off the flowers. What do yours look like?”

"I only have two right now- a fluffy orange one named Leo and a silver tabby named Minette," I replied eagerly, more than happy to talk about my pets. "They get to wander around as they please but they spend a lot of time in the garden chasing this or that. They're only a few months old so they can't really catch anything but it's great to watch them try."

“The only pet I had that was mine alone was a puppy, his name was tumble,” I said, smiling a little sadly. “He was all black. He took ill though and passed away when he was still little.”
