At the appointed day and time, I appeared, wondering exactly what it was Liselle had in mind for me. It would be good to see her again; she was a partner in crime if nothing else.
Glancing around, I waited for my surprise.

My time away had been hell in itself, but I had learned a little from it. People thought I was stupid, stubborn and ignorant, and I probably was, but I was the one who was back in the City with my privileges returned, and those 'smarter' girls were still in the country waiting for their families to have the money for them to make a debut. With money comes freedom, and with title comes money. Now I had a much more cohesive plan to make sure I would NEVER have to endure that kind of emotional, cultural and social wasteland again.
Gabriel had been the person I'd probably spent the most consistent time with during my last visit, and really had the most fun with. I wasn't used to having real friends, but if anyone came close to a partner-in-crime and 'lover', it was him. Why else would I let him sneak in my window in the middle of the night? It would be interesting to see him again and be able to judge if he'd changed in some way. No doubt he'd be as devilishly handsome as ever, but perhaps they'd managed to chain him on a leash of familial obedience. It seemed all that kin wanted to do was stop some kind of fun.
I'd arrived about ten minutes before the time we were to meet, my gown a new one of rich violet that clung at the breasts, waist and hips; in my hands was a wooden box holding a very special bottle of my family's wine, the vintage the same as the one he'd enjoyed the most at my home. My table was ready- the joy of reservations- and I was seated to wait for my friend. Hmm, friend- odd. And I wasn't even that concerned whether or not he was free to ride me senseless. The things the country did to one's mind.
A few minutes later Gabriel entered, looking almost the same as ever, and I gave him a crooked smile and waved, smiling more sincerely than I probably did for anyone else though I'm sure the wry humor and irritation from the country still showed. With a playful wink I crooked my finger at him, gesturing him over and hoping that he'd be suitably impressed with my gift. Of course there were other surprises, but those would depend on how this meeting went. Who knows, he could have gotten engaged or something and then they'd have to be cancelled- or not. Only time would tell.

A grin spread across my face as I saw Liselle. She looked even lovelier than before she had left. Winding my way through the tables, I went to her and her beckoning finger.
“Well hello, my dear,” I said, taking her hand and bowing over it, placing a kiss on the inside of her wrist. “What a lovely surprise.”

He didn't hesitate to come over once he saw me and his grin was a refreshing sight, even more than the rest of his handsome face. Even watching him walk was a nice change, a thing of grace as opposed to the trudging most people in the rural areas to get from one place to another with the least effort possible, and I smiled back as he approached, offering my hand for him to kiss and purring faintly to myself at the touch of his lips in appreciation. This entire scene was home, not that place I'd been born and raised, and every proof of it was a comfortable reminder.
"Hello my lord Shahrizai, I'm glad to hear so," I replied in a friendly tone with just a slight lowness to it. "And to think I haven't even given you the real surprise yet. Would you like to sit down and dine with me, and I can bestow on you the gifts I've been saving in months of boredom?" Very gently I picked up the box with the bottle of wine and set it down by the spot I hoped he'd be sitting. "How are you?"

Before I answered, I took the seat she obviously intended for me, but moved my chair just a little closer to hers.
“I am well, thank you,” I said, my hand moving to rest on her thigh, the tablecloth hiding my action. “Though I suddenly find myself eager for your ‘gifts’,” I added with a grin. “How are you?”

Somehow I knew he'd take my statement in that fashion and I glanced at him through slightly lowered lashes, a hand going to stroke the back of his under the table before it rested on his own knee, the other still holding my glass of wine as though nothing untoward was happening at all. The decorum, the courtesy, the fact that he wasn't trying to claw through my skirt but instead had all of the temptation of patience- it was comfortable in a very sensual way. "But how will you know until you open it?" I asked in a teasing tone, my thumb stroking along the line of his knee. "You know how I'd hate to disappoint you."

Smiling, I leaned in and murmured in her ear, “Sweet Liselle, you have never disappointed me and I don’t see it happening in the future.” I kissed her cheek and then straightened.
My hand came from beneath the table and I carefully opened the box she had presented me. “Thank you,” I said, instantly recognizing the vintage. “This is very thoughtful.”

The charmer. I had no doubt that he said the same thing to at least one different woman every day most of the time, but today he was spending his time on ME and that was enough really. It was more time than anyone else had consistently given me in my life and for that I felt Gabriel was the closest thing to a friend I had. "That just makes it more important to impress you I'd say," I told him in a low tone as I watched him open his gift, then gave a smile that was actually sincere. "I thought that was the one you liked. I'd have sent it before but it took awhile to find, Mother decided to rearrange things."

“Oh, but it wouldn’t have been half as nice a gift if you hadn’t been here to give it to me in person,” I told her, smiling as I closed the box again.
Leaning over, I kissed her cheek. “Thank you, my dear,” I murmured against her flawless skin.

"That's most kind of you to say, and you're welcome," I told him, brushing a kiss against his cheek in return, my thumb stroking his knee one last time before I pulled my hand away and took another sip of my wine. "And here I was, worried that you'd be married or permanently attached to someone else by now, and forgetting about me. Out of sight is out of mind, or so I hear."

“You give yourself too little credit, Liselle. How could anyone else make me forget about you?” I asked, smiling charmingly.

"Oh, I'm sure there's a lot of things that could occupy the mind of a man as handsome and charming as yourself," I replied with a smile that showed just a little bit of sweet promise to it. If he had forgotten I'd probably be able to help him remember at some point, provided he was still inclined. Had he changed his mind it probably just meant he needed more convincing. "After all the City is full of beautiful women and men that you got to enjoy while I had to look at grapevines." Was I pouting? Maybe a little- but there was real irritation behind it as well, directed straight at my parents for pulling me away from here. It wasn't as though I'd gotten pregnant or locked up in prison.

Reaching out, I gently captured her chin and turned her face until she had to look directly at me. My thumb lightly stroked her jaw line.
“Now you give me too little credit,” I said, my lips curved into an intimate smile. “My mind is not so easily captured. I could never forget about you, nor any of your gifts.”

"It's good to know I made an impression, good sir," I teased lightly, my eyes sparking with a slow burn of desire as I held his gaze and my smile taking on just a slightly more wicked curl. Oh, I knew I was probably not the best of the ingenues of the Court, but I was probably the best for my age and I made a lot of effort to get better. "I know that you're very pleasant to remember." Turning my head just slightly I ran my lips across his fingers, my hand returning to his knee.

“Just very pleasant?” I asked, lips moving to a wry grin. “I shall have to work to become more outstanding in your memories.”
My thumb traced the elegant curve of her bottom lip. “How long are we staying here?” I asked lowly. “I find myself yearning for privacy.”

"Oh, you know, just trying to use polite words in front of polite company," I teased wryly with a glance around the room. "I didn't know if I even planned to stay this long if you want to know the truth. Wouldn't you rather I showed you how much I remember you enjoying than saying it anyway?" Opening my mouth slightly I flickered my tongue across the tip of his thumb as it passed across my lips, my hand sliding just a hair further up his thigh.

When I’d arrived, I’d had plans to draw things out, to catch up, to be polite. But my body remembered hers too well, and I was ready to go and get fully reacquainted with her.
“Yes,” I said, knowing she could see the desire burning in my eyes. “I think it’s past time to go.”

"It's interesting how at times we think the same thoughts," I teased with a low laugh as I drew away from him and rose, drinking the last of the wine in my glass and setting down a couple of ducats for it as well as the tip for use of the table. "I still have those piles of pillows as well, did you want to get reacquainted with them too?"

My lips curved into a smile. Gods, she did know how to appeal to me, didn’t she?
“Yes, I would like that very much,” I said, rising and offering her my arm.

"Then I hope your afternoon is clear," I said in a near-whisper as I took his arm, brushing him just slightly with my hip as I moved to stand next to him. There was something very comfortable about being near his body again and I was never the sort to put off something I craved if I could possibly avoid it. Reaching out with my free hand I picked up the bottle of wine I'd given him and held is securely before offering it back to him.

"That's the best news I've heard yet," I replied with a smirk, eyes nearly smoldering with passion. The sooner we got to my house the sooner Gabriel could start ripping my clothes off, which is what my goal really was at this point.

Chuckling at her words, and in truth my response to the desire in her eyes, I led her out and to my carriage. I was as eager as she to be where we could be truly reacquainted.

I didn't know exactly what triggered his laugh, but it only irked me a little to not have the answer and I stepped up into the carriage still smiling, then scooted over and waited for him to get in. It wasn't really that long of a trip and if we did more than speak a couple sentences I would have been surprised.
