Appearance and Disposition
Even though Cerise was born and raised a d'Angeline, her fiery locks and striking hazel eyes denote to her Eiran lineage. Her eyes are wide and catlike, smiling even if her lips are not, though one rarely finds her in a pout or with a grimmace on her face. Her locks, a blazing red, reach to her hips as she has never cut them as she takes great pride in the things she cherishes - her locks being one of them. They had set her apart from her siblings and most of her friends as a child, the other children boasting sunny blonde locks, or chestnut brown, she was the only one that she knew of in her part of town with her colouring. Her skin, too, was not the pale ivory of her mother, but a peachy colour, freckling when she got too much sun, mostly across her nose and cheeks and her shoulders. Cerise was not so vain as to stay out of the sun for fear of this, and when she was a child, before entering into the Night Court, she spent much of her time in the outdoors and on her father's boats. She is tall, or at least for her family she is, being the second of three children, all the rest boasting the sunny locks of her father. Cerise is comprised of soft lines, though she is petite, and her hips not terribly voluptous, her shape is exquisite. Cerise is a happy girl, though she does have a fiery way about her that matches her locks, the cycles of the tide, and her mother's own wild upbringing. It is magical to watch the transformation in her when there is music about.
Background
Cerise's mother Cerwynne, and her father, Tobias de Borgerac, met in Alba. He had been a captain on a ship, carrying silks to trade for spices and furs when he, his crew and his ship were tossed into the ocean, mostly in pieces, during a terrible storm as he was about to round Alba. He had managed to grab a hold of the wreckage, a wooden plank, and stay afloat, weathering out the storm atop the plank, going in and out of consciousness. In fact, he was unconscious when the storm had settled. Cerwynne was of the people of the White Horse, not coming from royalty but a family which hunted animals and used their hides and bones to make clothing and art. That was her family's trade. She had been out in the water, by the coast of Alba after having taken a boat there, waiting silently for fish to catch when she saw him floating towards her. She had heard of d'Angelines, but had never actually seen one. She had gone back to shore, fetched her little boat, and rowed herself out to him. Cerwynne could see he was alive, and thus worth saving. She did not know of his name, or his title, or whether he was wealthy, kind or married, she only saw that he would be left for fish food if she did not try to save him. She tried to bring him to consciousness, slapping him about, making loud noises, but it was her singing as she tried to move his body into her boat that roused him, and he swore he had been rescued by an angel. From that moment, they had been inseparable. She brought him back to her family and insisted that she tend to his needs. As he regained his strength, he showed his gratitude by helping out her family, learning the ways of their people, and their language, which he added to the tongues he had already learned in his ventures. Soon, he was ready to return to Terre d'Ange, but this time, he would be bringing back the best bounty he had ever received - a wife.
Cerwynne had been a little awkward at first, knowing only the d'Angeline Tobias had taught her, which was enough to get by at that point, but found herself more comfortable speaking the tongue of her people, which he did not begrudge her. An Azzalese man by birth, he was proud of her in whatever she did, and proud to call her his wife. Within a year of marital bliss, Cerwynne was with child. The first was a boy whom they called Tobias the Second, after his father. The second came when Toby was but 2 years old, and this was Cerise.
Cerise spent her childhood in a happy, loving home with a happy loving family. Her father, when he was not sailing on business or running the few ships he had come to own, loved to spend time with her on the water. When he was away, her mother taught her the music and language of her homeland, which the little girl picked up quickly. Her mother played the lute, but from the age of five, on her birthday when her father returned with a large harp as a present, that was Cerise's instrument of choice. She clung to the thing like a babe to a breast, and showed great promise even in her young age. At the age of 7 her second sibling was born, a little girl named Evaiea. Cerise found it amusing to play for her until she was soothed and asleep. Her father saw then that perhaps she would be best off schooled by the best teachers that Terre d'Ange had to offer. He explained the history of the Night Court to his wife, who balked at the idea at first, but understood that this was something that ran deep in d'Angeline culture, and he promised that once her marque was made, she would return back to them. She acquiesced, and at the age of ten, Cerise and her full sized harp were brought for an audience with the Dowayne of Eglantine House.
The Dowayne listened to the little ten year old Cerise play, and was astonished at the complexity of the tunes she played, most of them sounding Eiran in nature, though with d'Angeline tempos and flavour mixed in. The Dowayne was pleased and Cerise became a resident of the Night Court. She was shy at first, knowing of the Night Court, and what it meant she would have to do. But after her lessons in both music and love, and her debut, she realised she had nothing to fear and would only stand to gain from this experience.
Having been in Naamah's service for only three years, her marque reaches just short of a quarter up her back, which is rather good, though not exemplary of an adept to accomplish. Cerise enjoys her work, and enjoys being able to see her parents when they come to the City now and again, but most of all, she loves to make music, singing and playing her harp.
