I'd always had a love for animals and now that the house was settled down it seemed a little too large. We needed some kind of pets to help fill up the space and I usually didn't like the overly pampered and almost stupid ones that a lot of the nobles kept. Tiny dogs with smashed-looking faces were cute, but there was also something sad about them, and most of the time people waited in line for animals like that. Their homes were guaranteed by their pedigree, rather like me really.
Instead I did what I'd always done, taking a walk and trusting my feet to lead me to the right place. The scenery passed me by and I managed to keep track of where I was by the level of the shops around me as well as the streets, which always seemed to run in a pattern rather than in a random jumble as it seemed in Serenissima. It was actually very useful for finding your way around. The Temples dominated a lot of the landscape here with just a few other places thrown in between them, but even so there was a sense of life.
I'd been to this part of the City before but I'd never gotten a very close look so I simply walked along and let my feet take me where they would. There didn't seem to be anyone selling dogs or birds this early but I had faith I'd run across them eventually, or at least meet someone new. Anything seemed possible on such a pretty day.

I’d woken this morning with an unexpected sense of longing for home. I missed my parents and other brothers, but I was happy here in the City. This had happened a couple of times before, and the thing I’d found that helped the most was visiting one of Naamah’s Temple.
I’d gone to smaller ones the last times, so this time I decided to visit the main sanctuary. So that was how I found myself strolling down the street, a basket with offerings under one arm, and a smile on my lips. The day was glorious and I already felt the longing inside me fading.

I'd ended up in one of the sanctuary areas, not too far from the main track, but really they were so large that it was easy to run into them so long as you were actually in the Temple District. There wasn't anything else that had caught my attention so far and Sophie had told me they were some of the more interesting places to look around- so maybe it was time for me to actually take her advice.
There was a statue in front of the building that caught my attention before I even made it in the door to the main sanctuary and I couldn't help but continue to stand there and look at it for a moment. The carving was completely flawless in every way, and even finer than the things that the royalty had in Serenissima. And even more, it seemed like the beauty of this thing was considered secondary to so many other things, and perhaps it really was, but it was then that some of the true meaning being d'Angeline hit me a bit. They put their beauty out for everyone to see, open to the air, and somehow that made it better than if it was locked into some dark alcove.
With a smile I ran my hand along the blocky stone base of the statue and turned to walk back onto the path when I nearly collided with another person who was carrying a basket, and almost without thinking I reached out a hand to steady her burden. "Oh, wow, I'm so clumsy," I said with a small laugh. "Sorry about that. One day I'll learn to open my eyes, I promise."

"No harm," I said wtih a smile and a chuckle. "Nothing terribly fragile in my basket, so I'm sure it's all fine."
I glanced up at the statue the girl had appeared from behind of; it was rather stunning. "I can see why you were distacted, it's lovely."

The girl I'd bumped into was very pretty indeed, dark-haired and seemingly relaxed, and I smiled as I gently let go of the basket once it seemed to be balanced again. "It's just gorgeous," I agreed, laughing a bit. "But that's probably not an excuse to have bad manners, that's what I've been told anyway." The basket the girl had caught my attention and I looked at it a little more closely. "Can I ask what's in the basket and what you're going to do with it? Is it an offering?"

“It is,” I said, smiling. “I am Namarese and I was heading to Naamah’s temple to give offerings.”

Well, that made a lot of sense actually. "My family is from Azzalle but I lived for most of my life in Serenissima," I explained with a smile. "The beauty of this place just drew me in though. Does it always feel this peaceful and contented here?" I was probably asking a lot of questions that didn't make any sense but it was part of my nature to ask what I didn't know so I could know it. "I wonder if it will be the same at the Temple of Azza."

“All the temples I have visited around here are quite lovely and peaceful,” I answered.
“It seems to be a bit of a theme,” I added with a chuckle. A thought occurred to me. “Would you like to join me?”

Her invitation surprised me a little, since I wasn't sure if she was one who participated in public devotions or not, but when it came I smiled widely. If she didn't want anyone to go she wouldn't have offered, right? And it wasn't like to turn away an interesting opportunity or to second-guess anyone's ideas. "I'd love to," I told her brightly, then looked at the basket. "Though I didn't think I'd be coming to this area exactly so all I have is coin. Do you think that will work?" If not there were vendors everywhere and it wouldn't take more than a moment or two to grab something. Coming to the gods empty-handed if you could avoid it was probably for the best.

“It should, or I’m certain there will be someone selling offerings at the temple steps,” I said, smiling happily t her acceptance. “I’m Josette.”

"That's good to hear, I wouldn't want to start off by offending someone," I replied with a light laugh. "I'm Noemi, it's good to meet you." The walk to the Temple still seemed somewhat deserted and I look another look around for anything else that might catch my attention, though I had no doubt that Josette would lead me to where I needed to go. "Where do we go in, or is there some other kind of ritual first?" I asked interestedly. I knew that there wasn't too much pomp and circumstance to our own worship in Serenissima but that didn't mean it was the same here in the homeland of our gods.

“There,” I said, indicating the front entrance. “As for ritual, I don’t think so. There isn’t one at home, but things seem to be just a little different here in the City so who knows.” I chuckled and shrugged my shoulders.
“Oh, there,” I said, pointing to a man selling jars of honey and packets of incense. “Offerings should you wish to buy some.”

Oh, good, this wasn't going to be any more complicated than at the small temple in Serenissima! So much the better. "Thank you," I told Josette as I walked toward where the vendors were set up and started to look over the wares. "Back home- so are you from somewhere else as well? This is my first time in the City too." I gently picked up one of the jars of honey and looked through the clear amber liquid, smiling. Somehow it didn't surprise me that Namaah would like honey, there was something very sensual about it.

“I’m from Namarre,” I told her, watching as she pursued the items for sale. “Two of my brothers and I are living here in the City for now.”

I knew Namarre was a province not far from here, but otherwise it was a blank, fuzzy place to me; I'd always been bad at geography and before coming here I'd concentrated more on learning the culture and dancing than anything that would actually be 'practical'. When I went home today I'd have to look back over those books. "It must be a beautiful place," I replied cheerfully. "To have Namaah claim it."
It didn't take long to choose a small jar of honey and a packet of incense from the sellers, for which Josette was probably grateful; after all she was carrying that basket and even if she made it look easy it would be hard on the arms after awhile. "Alright, I think I'm ready to ask favors from on of the Companions," I said with a light laugh as I turned back around toward the girl who was hopefully going to be a new friend.

“Namarre is amazingly beautiful,” I told her, smiling at the memories of home. “I would be happy to show you around should you ever decide to visit.”
She finished her transaction and I smiled at both her and the merchant. “Excellent,” I said, beginning to head towards the entrance.

"If I ever decide to visit I'll be sure to let you know," I told her cheerfully as I followed her closer to the doors of the Temple, curious to see what was going on inside and hoping that the tributes I'd brought were enough to bring me luck in her sphere of influence. Not that I knew exactly what I'd ask her for, but just gaining her favor would probably have good results, right? "Would it be rude if I asked what you were going to ask Namaah for, or are you just hoping for a little luck in love?"

“I’m not asking for anything specific,” I answered. “Mostly I am just paying my respects and thanking her for the gifts she’s already given me.”

"So you already have some luck then," I teased gently, hoping that I wouldn't offend her and that the smile and the light in my eyes was enough to tell her I only meant to jest. "Maybe this trip will help me find what I'm looking for as well." I knew that Namaah wasn't just the goddess of romantic love, and had other spheres of influence, but being a Trevalion I felt a little guilty asking her for success since I knew that should have been Azza's area. "Though with all of the handsome boys here it shouldn't be that hard to find one that I like."

“It’s not hard, trust me,” I said, flashing her a grin. “Though finding one you want to spend more than a roll in the hay with is far more difficult.”

Well, with all of the handsome faces I'd already seen she was probably right- after all, I had no illusions that just because d'Angelines had angel's blood that their hearts were always pure. Everyone had their faults, but I was the kind of person who tended to look past them. "Well, I'm not sure I'm ready to settle down with anyone yet, so I think simple loves and friendship will suffice for me," I replied with a light laugh as the Temple doors opened. "Though I won't turn it away if real love comes along, I'll just make sure it really is real first."
