I wrapped my arms around her and gathered her against me. “Ah love, I’m so sorry,” I said softly, resting my head gently against hers.

I began to sob silently against his shoulder, unable to control myself for a long moment. But eventually I stilled again. "I don't know what I'm going to do without him," I whispered brokenly. "I was so happy."

“I know,” I murmured, my hand gently caressing her back in an effort to comfort her. “I wish I knew what to say to make it better.” I held her close, feeling incredibly protective and wishing I could ease her pain. “He loved you very much, you could see it every time he looked at you.”

I very nearly broke down completely at his words, but such moments were luxuries I couldn't indulge in right now. Gabriel's arms helped, so strong and supportive around me. I couldn't however control the tears, and I was doubtlessly soaking his shirt, not that I could find the will to really care. "I never thought that I'd ever find anything like the love he gave me," I confessed.

"Ana," I said in a questioning concern tone. I had recognized the tell-tale physicals of the man that she was hugging to be her family. A cousin mayhap, or brother. Why couldn't there be someone there for me to do that? I blinked back tears that threaten to emerge.

“I know,” I whispered, my hand moving to stroke her hair. “Come, let’s go in and get you a seat. People can greet you there.”
It seemed silly to me that she should have to be receiving people and looking stoic at a time like this. Still holding her and supporting her if she should need it, I began to guide her in to the sitting room.

I nodded and pulled back to wipe my eyes. "It's alright Alora, I'll be fine," I told her, braving a smile for her benefit before Gabriel led to to the next room. I was glad for his arm and leaned against it. I was trying so hard to be strong, and even something so simple as a guiding hand was a help right now.
We sat on a couch that was open to the room so that people could still approach, and a cup of tea appeared at my elbow almost immediately. I would have preferred something stronger, but the chirgeon had advised against it. I drank it down, tasting the honey that had been added. Immediately I knew the servants were concerned, for them to take the extra step. It made me want to cry again.

I really didn't believe Ana when she said she'll be fine. I looked around and found a chair and took it, no long able to hold back the tears that had threatened to fall for some time now. There was nothing for me here, but I had to stay since Ana was family and I had duties as duchess now.

I kept my arm around her as we sat, watching as she sipped her tea.
“Do you want anything else, love?” I asked softly.

I had taken out a handkerchief and was drying my eyes properly. It felt so good to have him beside me, there seemed to be so little human contact in my life now that Jareth was gone. "There are many things I want. Most are impossible, and the rest are remarkable irresponsible," I said, shaking my head. "But thank you."

I felt a wash of relief at her words, if she could be so wry at this moment, then I had hope for her getting through this.
“Well, I am sort of an expert at the remarkably irresponsible, so just let me know if you decide you do want one of those,” I said, giving her a smile.

My reply seemed to cheer him up, and I realized that he thought I was making a jest. I hadn't intended to, my thoughts were too dark, but perhaps it was for the best. This grief was taking so much out of me. "You'll be the first one I ask," I promised, doing my best to keep thing light, well, lighter. I thought I did an alright job.

“Promise me you’ll ask me for anything you need,” I said, my tone more serious though gentle. “I am here for you, and whatever you might need.”

Alora's mother and father walked in to see the crowd that was already there. Her father went to the refreshment table while her mother went in search of Alora. "There you are, honey." The voice made my head snap up, tear stricken face and red eyed. "Mother?" I nearly lept from the chair into her arms. I felt her arms around me, giving me comfort that I hadn't known since I was a child. I stood there, allowing my tears to come without attempting to stop them and Mother held me silently. Finally, I had nothing left and I pulled away. "I...I thought Ana didn't invite any of Uncle's family?"

His words caused me to pause. Sabrina might not believe me, but she and Gabriel were supposedly friends. Maybe she would believe him. "Will you come with me when I meet with the queen? It's not irresponsible, but I would..." I drew in a calming breath. "Appreciate knowing someone was on my side."

My gaze moved to Sabrina and then back to Ana. “Of course,” I said. “I’ll be with you for whatever you need.” I wondered what it was she was going to meet with Sabrina about that required support.

I entered into the house, seeing that Ana was talking with a cousin, and I wanted to comfort her as she shed her tears, but I gave them a respectabel distance. There would be enough time to express my condolences. I kept in close proximity, though, though not close enough to overhear the conversation, and looked about at the attendants. A girl stood further in, at a table of refreshments, flaming red hair with others around her as she wept, and I wondered if she was related to Jareth in any way.

"Now why would you think that?" Mother asked.
"Because..." I sniffed. I didn't have a reason, it was just something I thought she would do. I dried my tears. "There's refreshments." I motioned towards the area. "I should greet the guests." I stood and went to the one that had arrived. "Welcome, I'm Alora."

I went into the sitting room to find Ana and Gabriel there. "There you are," I said, sinking to Ana's other side. "I am so sorry for your loss, my sister."

Soleil arrived, and to be surrounded by people who would support me lifted some of the weight of loneliness that had plagued me since Jareth had died. I reached for her hand and held it tightly. "Thank you for coming. It means so much to me to have you, both of you, here."

I had hoped to arrive at the gathering early, but I had to stop first for a gift for both Anacrazia and Alora. I didn't know them well, so I had managed to barter with an Eglantine adept for a copy of The Journey of Naamah that I hoped Alora would enjoy and and empty journal that the duchess would use. I instructed the carriage driver to Anacrazia's home upon climbing into the carriage. It took some minutes to arrive at the gate. A blast of cold air entered the carriage when the door was opened. I was helped out and I walked myself to the door and showed myself in.
Inside I could see that friends and family were already present. Looking around, I did notice that a large amount present seemed to bare the familiar stamp the Shahrizai family. Though off in a close distance stood a red head greeting who looked like a Shahrizai family member. Further away in the sitting room, I saw a female Shahrizai greeting a family member with another at her side. Figuring that would be the duchess, I would greet her first than Alora. In my hands, I shuffled the book and the journal to where I had the journal on top to hand to the duchess. I walked into the sitting room, my Tsingano cloak still on, and stood not that far behind the standing female Shahrizai that was greeting the duchess.

The woman with blazing red locks wiped her tears and ventured towards me, offering her name. I smiled softly.
"Hello, Alora. I am Sarielle," I said moving closer to offer her a gentle kiss on each cheek. "Are you a relative of Jareth's?" I asked her, my voice holding warmth and kindness. Now was not the time to be evaluating her, to look shrewedly upon her and guess at waht she was thinking. Not now.

I returned the smile and remembered her name. I gave her a kiss on each cheek as she did to me. "Greetings, Sarielle," I replied. "And yes. I'm his niece." It was nice to hear kindness coming from someone who was to be family.

I braved a smile at Soleil's reply, but I was distracted by the arrival of a woman I didn't know. By the way she moved I could tell that she had adept training, and I suddenly had a sinking fear that I was about to meet one of Jareth's former lovers. Tsiango cloak and all, so help me.
"Welcome to my home. I am the Duchesse Anacrasia Shahrizai," I greeted the unknown woman. I had a limited amount of grace in me for this occasion, and I hadn't quite used it all up.

I curtsied to the point I was was nearly kneeling abeyante to the duchess, eyes cast slightly down. "Thank you, duchess. I'm Kaden nó Gentian. Please accept my deepest sympathies to the loss of your fiancee and accept this gift on the behalf of Gentian House." I offered up the gift I had bought not that long ago. "May it serve you well in the days to come."

Before I could answer, there was an adept there speaking to Ana. I could feel Ana tense and wondered if the girl had been something to Jareth. I held my tongue and kept my arm around Ana for now.

Then what exactly was she doing here?
The hairs on the back of my neck prickled as I felt my protective instincts flare even brighter. My arm held Ana even closer as I shifted, sitting forward a little more and ready to get between Ana and anyone who might cause her more distress.
