Just before Henri L'Enver's Fete, 5th week of Winter; Year Two of Queen Sabrina's Reign
I loved Alex, more then I had ever thought I could love another after my first wife had died. To me she had been the only one I had ever loved and when she had passed away, I just assumed that I'd never be lucky enough to find that sort of bond again. But I was wrong, I found it in Alex. Alex was a lot like Isabelle in many ways, that same kindness, that same loving nature and good heart. But Alex was also a creature of her own making, wild and free, young, but clever and wise. Everyday I woke with her in my arms I felt as though I had been blessed by the gods themselves.
So after spending many agonizing nights discussing the fact we would have to wait till we could wed, I began to look into options. The risk was low that if we wed, that there would be very little legal recourse against me, but I didn't want to take the chance, I wanted to be sure that no one could stand against our union. After discussing the matter with a few people there appeared to be only one choice. Alex and I needed to convince the head Priest of Elua that our love was real and not just my attempt seduce a young girl for devious purposes.
I sent a letter to the Temple of Elua and recieved notice that I could come and speak with the Priest, so that was what I was doing here this day.
"Ah... you must be the Marquis le Mons." A grey haired my greeted me with a smile.
"I am indeed." I replied. He nodded and gestured for me to follow.
"Your letter was quite interesting my lord...."
"Just Azriel, please." I interupted him but gave him a smile and he smiled back.
"You are in quite the predicament." He added. "And this girl of yours, she is young. Usually we will only wed those of that age if their parents agree to the union as well as the bride and bridegoom to be." I nodded as I walked with him.
"I know," I said softly. "It looks suspicious. I've only known Alex for a month, and I became her guardian the same day we met. To top it off, we became intimate not more then a week after our first meeting." I sighed a little.
"I know that I am near ten and four years older then her, and that she is young. I know that under the circumstances it would look odd. But the truth is that I know Alex is my one true love. She completes me, she makes me whole, I can't imagine living with out her and I can't imagine having children with any one but here." I looked at him as we walked and he glanced to me with a pondering gaze. For a while we walked, my eyes on the old Priest as he looked forward, but then finally came to a stop.
"Azriel, I think your heart is true. Your words and deeds seem fair and just, but I can not just take your words, I must know the girls wishes as well." I noddded, my heart began to race at the posibility of being able to skip the waiting and be wed as soon as possible. But I didn't want to get my hopes up.
"Return four days hence with the girl and I will speak with her, then I will give you my decision." I couldn't stop my grin and reached out to take the man's hand, shaking it vigorously.
"Thank you, thank you... I will do just that." I chuckled happily.
"Thank you." He nodded, a little smile on his face.
"I'll see you in four days." He said then turned away heading back to where ever it was he came from. Eagerly I hurried back to the carriage, trying to decide when it would be a good time to tell Alex.
