“Oh, that you’ll take the blame for,” I said, chuckling as I got up and went to the basin in the corner again. Camael’s sword, but why couldn’t I have missed having to deal with Pierre? Shaking my head a little, I washed my face off with cold water, hoping to get rid of some of the marks crying had left.

"Well why not?" I said, chuckling. "Sounds good to me."

“You are incorrigible,” I said, chuckling as I dried off my face. Then I turned to him. “DO I look presentable enough not to scare your daughter?”

I shook my head sympathetically. "That girl has already been through so much," I said. "A positive change might significantly improve her life."

"Of course, I'm a Legard aren't I?" I replied with a grin. "And you look just fine Marie. Ready to go down?"

I took another deep breath and then nodded. “I’m ready,” I said, smiling and going to take his hand.

I smiled softly. "I just wish that I could have been there to have helped out in any way," I said earnestly. "But," I said more brightly, " I am here now!"
I looked at her, she really waas pretty, very beautiful, and she seemed so nice.
"May I ask... a question?" I ventured.

"I know that... well the Shahrizai, are a very strong family, and a very large family, and well known for... well...," I blushed mightily. "And I trust my brother's judgment but I would not be a brother... good brother... if I did not make sure... I know you love him," I stammered, then frowned. "I... he is in safe hands... because he is a Valerian and... I ...," I stopped talking then. I really did not know how to phrase it. How do you ask someone if they will be sure not to hurt him... too much?

I squeezed her hand, and then led her downstairs. It was certainly quieter than earlier, and I wondered how long it would be until I could whisk Mala away.

"That's what I'm hoping. And it's not charity, I really am going to need a secretary. I should have one now, I just keep putting it off. But add a child or three into the mix..." I said, shaking my head.

"It certainly would make things easier," I said. "I imagine that when Synnove is older I may need one myself, but for now she has a nanny."

His shyness made me smile fondly. He was going to break some woman’s heart and not even know it. Reaching out, I laid my hand on his, squeezing gently.
“You have my oath, that what happens between your brother and I in that regard is never anything that both of us don’t want at the time,” I told him. “Your brother is the most precious thing in the world to me.” I wouldn’t tell Henri that stopping myself from going too far had ripped us apart once and in the end nearly cost Christophe his life by another’s hand. I knew I couldn’t really harm Christophe in any way he didn’t ask for.

I followed Chris downstairs and was surprised to see only Henri and Malabelle there. “I hope they haven’t left,” I said softly to Chris.

“Oh, good,” I said, relieved. I knew he’d said that his daughter was off being fed, I just didn’t know if we’d been so long they would have left.

We went over to Mala and Henri, and I went to my love, sliding my arm around her waist and leaning for a kiss. "What are the two of your talking about?" I asked with a smile.

“How much I love you,” I answered, smiling as I leaned against him and my hand went to caress his cheek. “I was reassuring your brother that I know just how lucky I am to have you and that I am going to spend my life making sure you know that too.”

I chuckled a little at her reply, then leaned in to kiss her again. This time the kiss lingered a little longer. "You took the words right out my mouth love," I murmured.

His mouth lingered on mine and I felt desire begin to burn hotter inside me. I was ready to be away and alone with him. I smiled at him, a private smile that I knew he would understand and my fingers caressed slowly along his neck as I lowered my hand.
Than I turned my attention to Marie. "There's my new sister," I said, smiling. "Thank you again for all of your help."

The way Chris and Malabelle looked at each other...it made me ache inside and I missed ferris terribly.
"It was a joy, truly," I told her, smiling. Then I looked at Henri. "It was the least we could do for Chris, right?"

"I'm sure they will be," I said. "I think they are less fussy if you nurse them yourself, though of course, some women prefer wetnurses."

I nodded in understanding at her words and smiled just as Marie and Christophe returned. I smiled brightly at the two and watched as my brother and his wife were reunited.
"Definitely the least," I said with a smile, "and hopefully there will be more we can do. You know we are here for you both," I said as I turned my attention to Mala and Christophe, "for anything." And then I turned to Marie, thinking of how she would make such a great aunt to Synnove. " Marie, oh Marie, have you seen little Synnove? I haven't held her yet but I just know you two will get along so well," I said with a grin. Marie was such a nurturing and loving soul, I knew that the little babe would see that and take to her instantly, once we got to see her again.

"Soon," I echoed with a little grin, then glanced at Mala. I was hoping very soon. I wanted to be there when Synnove met my brother and sister, but I also wanted to scoop my new wife up and find a room with a locking door.

I nodded. "Well, you're free to do as you wish," I said, "but if you want my advice, nursing Synnove has bonded us, and I would never have traded the experience."
