Character played by: Matthew Goode
Name: Fredric nó Benoit
Age: 28
Gender: Male
Height: 6’3
Race: D’Angeline and Eire (Siovalese/Kusheline/Eiren)
Home Province: Siovale
Appearance: Fredric takes on the characteristics of his Eiren ancestry with his bright blue/green eyes and his thick chestnut hair. His frame is solid though not imposing, something he regrets and works hard to overcome. But the fact he lacks that bit of extra muscle is made up in his extreme flexibility and agility. His skin is a pale colour but can tan when he choosed to go shirtless, which he doesn't do often. The one other characteristic that separates Fredric from his D’Angeline kin is that he often grown facial hair, though not in abundance, he finds it gives him a bit of a rougher edge which he uses in his position of authority.
History: Unfortunately for Fredric, he has little to say about who he is and where he came from. The dark haired boy was left at a small temple for Elua within the borders of Siovale when he was barely a few weeks old. It’s believed by some that his mother had been an Eiren woman as some at the temple had remembered a woman some nine months previously, coming to visit with her family. By accounts the story went as thus; Fredric’s father had been a young priest at the temple, barely seventeen years old. His mother had been the middle daughter of an Eiren noble who had been through the province on his way to the City of Elua. It’s believed that the pair had consummated some deep lust and infatuation, conceiving Fredric in the process. The problem was that the temple had a fire not a few months after the young Eiren girl departed with her family, and many of the younger priestess and priestesses left to find work at other temples through out the country. By the time the young girl passed back through the province, with child but disguising the fact from her family, the young man she had bed was long gone. Knowing not what to do, she birthed the child in secret and had him sent away to the temple. Knowing that there was no real choice on the matter, the head priestess took in the infant and began raising the child to be a priest of Elua.
Perhaps it was the fact that Fredric knew this story since he was young, that had made him so introverted, or perhaps it was just his nature. Either way he was a quiet passive boy from very early on. Often found on his own, he never the less had a strong independent streak and as he neared the age of eight he began showing signs of loyalty, agility, and courage. One of the younger priests within the temple eventually confronted the head priestess and suggested that perhaps Fredric would find better service with the Cassiline Brotherhood. They spoke to Fredric, and then finally to the Prefect of the Brotherhood and by the time he was nine, he was taken to begin training to become a Cassiline.
Though Fredric was sad in a way, it wasn’t long before he began to show his true nature, and sure enough he was far more suited for the life of a Cassiline then a Priest of Elua. Remaining quite and withdrawn, he had little in the way of friendships even though the others within his age group always found him pleasant and caring. He enjoyed reading just as much as he enjoyed fighting. It was never a matter that he had no interest in spending time with the other boys, it just felt like he’d enjoy his time if it were better spent in reading. For the better part of his younger years he remained this way, but when he was fifteen his rebellious nature began to shine through. It was an age where he learned to set pranks upon the other boys, and how to escape some of the more tedious exercises, as well as escape the peering eyes of the Prefects. Despite remain chaste, it was a time with Fredric got his first taste of woman. At 16, one of the local peer’s daughters had gathered at the village to sell their wares and Fredric had been there with some of his fellow brethren for a training exercise. One of the girls in particular caught his eye and within the span of a few hours the two were found kissing. Fredric was severely reprimanded, but he rebelled claiming his love for the young girl and that he would leave the brotherhood for her. He snuck out the next night to find her, only to discover she didn’t quite feel the same way. To her it had been a game to tempt him, in which she had won 5 gold coins from her two brothers and two sisters; she had no real interest in Fredric nor would she run away with him as he had come to propose. He felt crushed and returned to the Brotherhood; from that point on he made himself hard and cold to all, especially to females. To him they were nothing but trouble, and especially after hearing some of the stories that were told by Cassilines that had wards. Being a Cassiline was all that mattered.
When he was twenty two, he finished his work with his brotherhood and was contracted out to a family in La Serenissima. Stories of the Cassiline Brothers hadn’t diminished since the time of Phedre and the most famous of all Cassilines, for a time it was often viewed as both an honor and entertainment to contract one for the daughters of higher noble families. So it was that Fredric went to Caerdicci Unitas where he was the protector of one such a girl. For five years he tolerated her well, following behind her as she walked through the streets and gossiped to her friends, talking about how pretty Fredric was and her plans to seduce him. Never the fool he did not give into her infatuation and always remained stalwart and true to his vows. When the young girl finally married her long time betrothed, the new husband dismissed Fredric without thought citing that who better to protect his love then her husband. The truth was though; the girl’s husband would not do to have such a handsome prize around his wife. Chaste or not, her husband didn’t want the possibility of him there to cause strife. So it was that at twenty seven Fredric was shipped back home with a coffer full of coin (something he tried to refuse, but his former ward’s husband insisted on) and in search of a new charge to watch over. For a year he has remained in Siovale with the others of his order, taking his time to perfect his craft and waiting for the opportunity to show himself worthy, and now it seems like he may just. As of recent, Fredric has been giving a tremendous task, to become the new Cassiline for the Dauphine Princess Coretta de la Courcel. With nerves threatening his usually cool, calm exterior, he heads for the City for the first time in his life and a chance to truly prove himself.
