Of all my time in the City, I've heard of the match between Uncle Jareth and Anacrasia Shahrizai. I've never had any contact with any member of that house, but I've heard many things. I know my history, and that other than Melisande, the house has served the Crown loyally to a fault.
Uncle had said to arrive at Cour de la Chancellerie for afternoon tea. Something about meeting someone. He really didn't go into detail. That was one thing I've learned so far, Uncle's not one to talk.

I arrived a bit after Alora as I spotted her already seated at a table. Being what I am I hung out at the door waiting on Ana. This was likely to have some awkward moments but it had to be done. I had already met a few of her relatives and it was time for her to meet my niece since if lightening struck before any of our potential children were of age matters fell to Alora. All of these thoughts made me scowl more than a little bit as my marriage seemed to be turning into one big political undertaking that had little to do with romance. Of course I was probably way too old to be thinking much about romance. Watching my niece from I distance I realized someone of her age was much more suited to romance than myself.

I was very nearly late, my meeting up at the palace taking longer than I had anticipated. The haggling over wedding cake was child's play in comparison to what could lie in wait over tea. Jareth wanted to introduce me to his niece. It seemed that we had missed each other on my visit to Jareth's holdings. I wasn't looking forward to more family, as nice as most of Jareth's had tended to be.
I arrived to find my love waiting for me at the door. "Hello darling," I said as I went to him, a true smile on my face. I kissed him softly, wanting to see if I could smooth the worry lines from his brow. "I hope you haven't been waiting long."

I was broken from my minor trance by a few words of greeting from Anacrasia. I turned to face her and before I could speak she gave me a quite tender kiss in greeting. When our lips parted I drew an involuntary sigh of rising contentment as a small smile creased my lips “hello Ana. And not long at all” I glanced in the direction of Alora “ready to enter the belly of the beast?” Truth be known my blunt family was like child’s play for the woman who the Shahrizai clan answered to.

That was better, he looked far more relaxed. One of us should be. "As ready as I'll ever be. You like this one right?" I asked teasingly, my hand going to his.

I chuckled a bit “yes, this one seems with it if naive.” I offered Ana my arm before escorting her toward my niece.

I looked up and saw that Uncle Jareth had arrived. He had seen me, I was sure, but it seemed like he was waiting for Ana; who arrived just now. They spoke a few words, of what I wasn't sure. I wasn't skilled in reading lips. Then I saw Uncle lead the way over to the table I was at. I stood when they grew near with a genuine smile on my face. "Greetings, Lady Anacrasia," I greeted.

"Good afternoon. You must be Alora," I replied with a polite smile. Lady Anacrasia? It's Duchesse to you. Don't they teach children manners anymore? "Your uncle has told me some good things about you."

I nodded and returned the polite smile. "I am." I haven't kept up on what titles others have, so I may have given Ana the wrong title. "I'm glad to hear that. Though it seems that you have the advantage over me since Uncle hasn't told me much about you."

As the two women greeted one another I waited till there was a break in the conversation and then offered some more formal introductions. “Well I can see the two of you figured out who is who, but to make it a bit more complete Duchesse Anacrasia Shahrizai this is my niece Alora d'Aiglemort, Alora this is my fiancé Anacrasia Shahrizai.” I was being formal but well I had to somehow deal with a small melding of two of the major families in the realm and this seemed the best way to do so.

At the point of Uncle formally introducing Ana, I gave her a bow that was worthy of a duchess. "My apologizes for incorrectly giving you the title of lady," I said.

"I'm sure you meant no harm by it," I replied with another polite smile, watching her bow instead of curtsey. And this was to be Jareth's heir? Oh, she would set tongues a wagging in court, of that I had no doubt. "Shall we sit?"

"No, Duchess Shahriazi," I said, realizing that I have bowed instead of curtsied. I really need to be mindful of what I do if I'm going to make it through this meeting. I motioned to the table. "After you."

I murmured my thanks and sat, arranging my skirts as I did so. Alora - well, what I had seen so far - struck me as the sort of woman I could have been in another life. Unconventional and not all that concerned about it. I filled away the thought to tell Jareth later, perhaps he would get a chuckle out of it.
