Two weeks after Midwinter, Year one of Queen Sabrina's Reign [/b][/center] As a fosterling, I was always closely guarded whenever I was allowed to venture out of Mont Nuit. Not so, now, and it was a bright, if cold, icy morning that Shonna and I were asked by Trinette to go to the market for some things that were needed at the House. I suspected she had only asked me to keep me out of trouble, as I was quite bored with being shut up due to the cold, though I had no idea what Shonna had done to warrant being sent on what was essentially a servant's errand. This would be my third time in Night's Doorstep in my life, and my first as an adept, and I was determined to enjoy it, despite my grim-faced companion. I didn't know Shonna well, she was quite a few years older than me, sour and irritable, which did not dampen my enthusiasm in the least as we made our way to Night's Doorstep, and the marketplace. She had barely spoken to me, only to warn me to "keep out of trouble" - but what could happen in the marketplace? I rolled my eyes and separated myself from her among the stalls as soon as possible, looking at the brightly colored silks and fingering the small pouch of coin I had earned from my last few assignations. I was saving it for the marquist, but would it hurt to buy myself a little something as a treat?

I had just finished sewing an open wound on a child that had split it open on the stone steps of one of the temples. Likely he had been racing his older brother up them and that had caused it, for I could see the young man peering from his room, looking guilty as sin itself, while his mother chided and clucked her tongue, looking completely worried.
And oh, how the boy screamed.
Not that sewing a wound shut had ever been... the easiest thing to handle, but he was in quite a lot of pain and while I had methods of dulling it, I thought the boy a bit young for opium or other drugs, not to mention the fact that other numbing agents were just not as fun. Having his father hold him down was more than amusing while I did my work, humming a little while I did so. I could practically feel the relief in the room as I cut the last string.
"I am running just a tad late I hope you don't mind if use the ladder," I said pointing to the window it was attached to. I could only assume, as a back entrance for the family since they did live on the second floor of a larger house. They weren't rich and I didn't charge them much. I was entertained enough by their shenanigans.
"Do call me if the wound festers, will you?" I said before ducking out the window as I slipped down the ladder and jumped the rest of the feet down, landing right in front of two young girls who didn't seem like they had ever ventured this part of town in their life.
"Afternoon ladies," I said, starting to try and navigate around them so I could head back to my flat.

I had just bumped into a slight girl that looked Tsingano to me when a man suddenly landed in front of us. I jumped back a bit, wondering if this was a common occurrence in Night's Doorstep, though the girl next to me paled and scurried away.
The man moved to the left just as I did, to get out of his way, so that we were once again confronting each other. I moved to the right - and at the same time so did he. "Sorry," I said, laughing at the absurdity of the situation. "I do seem to be in your way, don't I?"

"Yes, you're quite in my way, thank you." Annoying little chit, wasn't she? I sighed a little bit and grabbed her by the arm before pushing her aside. "Don't worry though, I solve my problems. Try not to get hurt tonight," I said, before heading down the alleyway, trying to mind my own business and head for home. I was in a good mood I didn't want to spoil it.

"Ow!" I exclaimed in annoyance as he pushed me aside. Was everyone in Night's Doorstep so rude? I didn't know, but I certainly wasn't going to stand for it. Reaching to the side of me, I grabbed an apple from a vendor and threw it after him, aiming for the middle of his back.
The stall owner glared but I tossed him a coin and he was mollified, and so I turned back the way I had come to see if I could slip away - just in case the man decided to come after me for throwing something at him.

I was already thinking about my agenda for that night when I felt something hit me square in the back, I scowled and turned around to see what it was and picked up an apple that rolled at my feet. I cocked an eyebrow just as I saw that little chit dash around the corner. I was not a man to get angry quickly. No, I just solved my problems when I had it. Pocketing it, I began to walk briskly but calmly after her, not even a scowl on my features when I found her and her little friend.
"Well, well, quite a move you pulled. I'm impressed you could actually aim well enough to throw it at me. Quite the gall you have, miss."

I had caught up to Shonna, who was in the middle of giving me a tiresome talking-to about running off, when the man caught up with us. Shonna eyed him, and then me, giving an exasperated sigh.
"Manon no Valerian, did you throw something at this man? What on earth ... I should tell the Dowayne, honestly. Apologize this instant!" I wanted to remind her that I was an adept now too, not a fosterling any longer, but instead I just crossed my arms and pouted slightly. I didn't want her to go to the Dowayne, after all.
"I'm sorry," I said, rather ungraciously, I knew, but he had started it!

Manon no Valerian, hm?
I smirked a little when I heard this and shook my head, "Oh, no, it is no trouble at all. I am terribly sorry for how rude I was, apology completely accepted." I could not help but smile and nod at the two of them before I moved away. "No need to get in trouble with your Dowayne over something so small, I hope you don't mind me keeping the apple," I said, pulling it out of my pocket as I walked away from the two of them. I had been looking for a bit of fun but Valerians tended to be so absolutely boring... but something told me this little flame would be far from it.
"Evening, ladies."

I was rather surprised at how well he took my apology, as unapologetic as I sounded. Shonna practically fawned over him as he left and I rolled my eyes behind her back, glaring at him as he wandered off - with MY apple! The absolute nerve of some people!
I was out of sorts now and just wanted to go home, where perhaps I could find Dante and tell him about how ill-used I had been and let him fuss over me until I felt better. Without a backward glance at Shonna, I decided that this was my best course of action, and leaving her to do the shopping that we were both supposed to be doing, I left, heading back to Dante without a second thought.
