I was about going mad at home - mad with boredom, wanting Noelle to come home, mad with desire, desire for Shea, mad with confusion, confusion about Henri...all of these thoughts churned in my head until I was about ready to tear my hear out! Throwing on my heaviest cloak against the winter chill, I stormed out of the house. The cool air calmed me, and by the time I reached the bookshop, I felt much better. I stepped inside and began to browse. Maybe a book would help me.

I went to Armand's to get stocked up on books for the winter. The last thing I wanted was to be snowed in with nothing to read. Though Reese had been proving to be a wonderful distraction.... I smiled to myself as I looked through the shelves, my fingers trailing along spines.

As I was browsing the shelves, I saw a book, entitled Twixt and Twain: How to Maintain Two Lovers. Though I had zero lovers, perhaps it had advice on how to deal with potential ones. Reaching for it, my fingers accidentally brushed those gloved ones of a pretty lady with dirty blonde hair. "Oh, I'm sorry, my lady," I said, hastily withdrawing my hand.

"Oh, it's fine," I replied with a smile. "Books are engrossing things."

"Aren't they?" I agreed. I smiled at her. "I'm Abby d'Aubigne."

"Juliette L'Envers. It's very nice to meet you Abby," I said with a friendly smile. I was still slow to make friends, but at least I had gotten more used to meeting people since I moved to the City full time. "Are you a frequent patron here?"

"No, I am more of a moderate patron, your grace," I said. "But I was just so sick of being cooped up at home, I needed a new book."

"Please, just call me Juliette," I said, uncomfortable at a chance meeting in a bookstore dissolving into pleasantries. How did she even know my title, I hadn't even used my full name?

"Of course, Juliette," I said. I briefly worried my lip with my teeth before saying, "So, what brings you out today?"

"I don't want to get snowed in with nothing to read," I said with a smile, grateful that she had dropped the honorifics and we were talking about books again. "What about you?"

"Serious cabin fever," I replied. "My sister has been out of town and I'm terribly lonely without her. I was looking for some new companions." I fingered the spine of a book on the shelf. "Do you think it will snow soon?" I asked her.

"I don't think so, but it's a good excuse to curl up with a good book. Bad for cabin fever though," I said sympathetically.

I groaned. "I have seen more snow in my life than even I can bear," I said. "If I have to be snowed in, I better get in a lot of activity before the fall."

"Where are you from?" I asked, for we didn't get enough snow in the City for most to groan about.

"Camlach," I said. "They say there are only two seasons there: winter, and July."

I laughed softly. "Well we don't get nearly the amount of snow here," I assured her with a smile.

"That's good," I said, before turning back to the bookshelf. "What kind of books do you like?"

"Histories are my favourite, but I like most all genres. I'm afraid I'm not very discriminatory," I said with a little smile.

I nodded. "I like histories too," I said, "and romances."

"I haven't found a really good romance novel lately," I replied. Though it wasn't the fault of the books, I had just experienced far too much this last year to appreciate a novel where everything ends up perfect. Real life wasn't that easy.

"I read a good one," I said thoughtfully. "It was sort of non-traditional, the ending was sad." I paused. "Though so many are light reading, they are like candy for the brain."

"Yes, sometimes it's good to escape reality," I said with a smile, looking down at the book in my hands. "Forget how the world really works."
