There was no doubt about it. I was bored.
The introduction of the frigid weather seemed to make the once busy Square seem dead in comparison. The last thing I could remember holding the hustle and bustle that I had come to know Terre d'Ange for was the Midwinter Fete, but with that gone there was nothing else, and it was rather sombering. Or mayhap more depressing. I could go hunt, it would be nice, but to go on a hunt by onesself? I viewed it akin to drinking by onesself, alone, in a dark room. It would have been pathetic, and I was trying to be anything but.
So I ventured out into the Square, wearing a heavy woolen dress in black. It fell off my shoulders with bell sleeves and reached the tops of my my lined slippers. I did not feel the cold as much, for some reason, but I still wore a heavy purple, hooded cloak, with the hood down of course. It was crisp, and bright, not overcast as I had found many of the days to be, and the breeze that blew was exhilerating. Even if the Square was dead, the weather reminded me that I was very much alive.
But no matter how much I tried to look at the bright side, the loneliness was tarrying on my soul. When I was alone, without a purpose, I thought, and my thoughts never moved to something pleasant, always to the ghosts and skeletons I had hiding in my closet, dying to get out. I took up a seat, brushing it off before I sat down heavily, resting my elbows on my knees and looking forward, not really focusing on anything at all, but letting my thoughts run away with me.

On the other hand my passing through the square was a bit more cheery. The cold invigorated me and the snow on the ground prompted my mind to think many new thoughts. As I walked I was sure to offer a smile to any stranger and keep an eye out for a familiar face. My steps lead me to the bench on which Faolan sat and observed the figure curiously. My curiosity brought me to where she was and I spoke softly and politely. "Do you mind if I have a seat?" A warm smile following the request.

Startled out of my reverie, I looked up to see the kind smile of a stranger. He was tall and dark haired and seemed rather pleasant. I could not help but smile back. "Of course," I said as I moved over to make space for him. "Though I can't say there is much going on about here these days," I said with a soft sigh. "I do not know how d'Angelines do it."

I sat down with a small nod of thanks. "Don't know how we do what?" I asked. She was right there didn't seem to be much in the winter to do...but one can always find creative things.

"Do nothing," I murmured sitting up and looking at him, "but I mean, literally, nothing." I looked around at nothing in particular. "Back home I'd have been hunting. A group of us, out in the woods," I said as I reminisced. "But here, I don't even know if there's much to hunt now. Nothing other than dresses on sale and broken hearts," I murmured, then sighed. "I am sorry, I must sound dour, depressing you and I haven't even gotten your name!"

I chuckled and replied. "I don't know either, but somehow we mangage. Hunting actually sounds rather enjoyable right now to be honest." Oh, my name. "Guy de Mereloit." There was no need for titles.

I smiled as he agreed with me. Someone who enjoyed hunting? I must have been hearing things. "Well Guy," I said wtih a grin, the smile creeping into my voice, while his smile and demeanor lifted my spirits, "I am Faolan. And I cannot believe I have found someone who enjoys hunting!"

I smiled and tilted my head, asking out of genuine curiosity, "Why is that? I knew several people who enjoy hunting. Of course it's hard to find them here in the city. You have to go out in the countryside where people actually have an idea of nature and hunting. Most nobility that hunt do not stay long in Elua." I on the other hand was surprised to see a young lady that enjoyed hunting, of course I've learned that life is just full of surprises.

"Well I myself do not know anyone from the country who returns to it," I said with a soft sigh, "I do not make many friends, and those that I do make friends with are mostly females who do not hunt." I turned my eyes to him. "So I go shopping, and eat at cafes, but I do not get to ... how is it said... to... commune? With nature," I felt my cheeks warm as my grasp on the d'Angeline tongue failed me for a moment. "The closest I come to it is hunting small game in the palace hunting grounds."

I nodded. "Well...if you ever want to, you can send a message to me and I'll get my bow and horse and be ready to hunt before you know it." I laughed and grinned. "I can't imagine ant enjoyment in shopping. You might have to explain that one to me."

I opened my eyes wide with surprise, a grin coming to my lips that no doubt matched my silly excitement. "I would enjoy that so terribly much!" I exclaimed before clearing my throat and calming myself down. "I mean... I think that would be a lovely idea," then I laughed as I tried my hand at being what was expected of me -- demure and lady-like. "As for shopping... I used to hate it... now I can see some of its merit, though these gowns," I gestured to my own, "they are terrible for any sort of proper movement," I confided, "and terribly easy to trip over."

I nodded with a chuckle. "Well I understand the practical aspect of shopping, but I don't see how it's enjoyable." I took a breath and changed the subject. "Tell me, what sort of game do you hunt?"

I nodded in understanding. Shopping was boring and I did not gather much enjoyment from it myself, at least I had not enjoyed it by myself.
"Well, in Alba we hunted all manner of animals. Hares, boars, just not black ones, deer, elk, wild cats and foxes, wolves, grouse, ospreys, gannets... anything but our maguinn don. What do you hunt?"

"Well," I began, "We have a good deal of those creatures right here in Terre d'Ange. We have the occasional bear as well. That always makes for quite the adventure." I grinned, remembering the last bear hunt I had been on.

My eyes opened wide. "Verily you have bears here?" I asked, then feeling my cheeks heat I ducked my head, I must have sounded like a child. "We have bears in Alba as well. Great bears, huge and viscious, at times. I would love to go bear hunting. Are you any good?"

I shrugged. "I suppose I'm decent. I've killed one or two. It's something you don't forget that's for sure. Perhaps we could venture deep into the woods...It'll have to wait until spring. Fall is the best time though because that's when they are fattened and lazy."

I laughed. "I prefer spring.. they've just awoken from their slumber, their angry and hungry. But then again, I suppose when it comes to the hunt I live a tad bit dangerously." I did frown though. "But either way, spring or fall, it is so far away. Is there anything that isn't locked away in a den a den that could be hunted in the winter?" I asked, deferring to him. I still had much to learn about Terre D'Ange.

I shrugged. "Well pretty much anything else we mentioned will be out and about. There are wolves, though there's no good meat on them, and deer." I was excited for this. I hadn't been on a good hunt in quite some time.

"Wolves are more for sport and for their pelt than to dine on," I murmured, "and I have heard that you do have lovely wolves here," I beamed now, smiling brightly, so different from the dour semblage I had donned moments earlier. "I think you have just made my day, Guy," I said with a chuckle.

I smiled and simply had to look at the ground when she complimented me. "Well thank you for saying so." I looked at her again and was so happy to see I had made another happy. "When would you like to go hunting?" It seemed my once empty schedule was filling up fast.

He ducked his head slightly and it made me feel more at ease to know that he was shy tas well. "Now, today, tomorrow, every day?" I said with a laugh at how preposterous I must have sounded. "Whenever you have the time," I amended. "I have plenty of it nowadays."

Her eagerness made me smile, and laugh, but mostly smile. "Tomorrow works. We should bring enough gear to last all day. Such trips usually are a dawn to dusk ordeal as we will need to go quite a ways out of town." I was beginning to feel her excitement as well as the plan actually began to take shape.

I giggled. "Really? Tomorrow? Excellent!" I beamed. "Well if you are not busy now we could pick up some things?" I asked excitedly.

I was swept up in the notion and nodded. "I don't see why not. But I'm not sure where to go to find what we need."

I grinned. "Oh but I know!" I exclaimed, rising to my feet excitedly. "Le Petit Renard," I said in my heavily-accented d'Angeline, wincing a moment atthe terrible pronunciation. "It is in the Artisan's District. They have everything!"

I smiled at the accent, only because I found it truly charming. "Sounds good to me. I assume you know the way and can lead us there then?"

I laughed, though it ended up coming out in a girlish giggle. "Do I ever. If this were a few months ago," I explained, "I would have been terribly lost, but now, I have finally become attuned to the land here. It took longer than I expected," I said as I straightened my skirts with my hands, my palms moving down my thighs as I made a face at them as if that would will them to stay put, "but my natural skills kicked in. We head that way," I said, pointing in a straight diagonal line ahead of us.

He offered his hand and I took it with a smile before I started to lead him away from the fountain and out of the Square. "I bet you did not start out the day thinking 'I just might meet someone who wants to hunt' today," I wagered with a grin.

I laughed outright as she lead me along and shook my head. "I can't say that I did. I'm sure you didn't either. But I'm sure it will be fun!" I would have to let my servants know that I would be out and make all the necessary arrangements. But for now it was just nice to simply enjoy the idea.
