I looked around the room one last time, making sure that we had not left anything behind. It was wonderfully odd that we were leaving this little home we had made. Duchess de Merilot had come through with getting me the rest of Simon’s funds on the same day that Aleron had received an offer for a position in Eisande. He was going to work at treasury house there, and I knew – knew – that he would do well and move up the ranks quickly.
I also knew that our house was there, it was the place we were meant to be. I was supposed to have family there somewhere, and perhaps we would find them eventually or maybe not. Aleron was my family now. Aleron and the children I had been dreaming of. I wasn’t afraid of the possibility of children any more, I looked forward to it. We would have two, a boy and a girl.
I held out my hand and Daisy jumped into my arms. This was it, time to go. I closed the door behind us and headed down to the wagon where Aleron was finishing storing our supplies for the trip. Everything was going to happen just as we’d always dreamed of. I couldn’t wait.
