After several days without assignations, I had decided to take leave of Gentian for a while and merely walk through the city. I kept her back covered since it was unwise, or unseemly, to have a Servant of Naamah to bare an unfinished marque. So, with her back covered with a modest dress, I walked through the Temple district of the City. I came here just to see if any Tsingani would be in town. Though they maybe where the Cockerel was, since it always seemed to have been ran by a Tsingano.
"Perhaps I should stop by there just to see what's going on," I said.

I was pondering making a visit to the temple Kushiel to pay my respects. I am not a typical member of the family by any stretch of the imagination even though I look like the prototype Shahrizai, but that does not mean I still do not do my best to keep the faith. As I passed along with my well worn sword tapping against my leg as I walked I observed a young woman standing in the street and as best I could tell talking to herself.
This caused an amused smile to creep cross my features as I seldom could pass up an opportunity to torment someone like this. So mayhap I was not so different from the rest of the family as I might like to think. I slipped a bit into her personal space and asked in a sibilant whisper “do you often get answers when asking questions of yourself?”

I didn't think, I just acted. Just because I was an adept of Gentian didn't mean I knew how to defend myself. I turned and swung my arm at the same time. "Do you always sneak up on Servants of Naamah like that?" Somehow, I should have seen that coming. Although, it would not have been wise to use the Dromonde while walking through the streets.

She was quick and feisty and that rather amused me. I am after all a professional and so when she swung I quickly raised my hand and snatched her wrist into my sword hilt callused grip. I caught her snuggly enough to hold her arm in case she had the desire to try and hit me again but I never gripped her hard enough to cause pain or bruise. Indeed I captured her arm much like one might catch an egg that was falling to the floor snug enough to stop the fall but not so snug as to break it.
I gave the obvious adept an amused and predatory smile letting all my obvious family heritage pour forth while not releasing her wrist or parting from her personal space “I did not sneak up you simply were not paying attention.” I replied in the same level and calm half whisper.

"Please release me, my lord," I said, having noticed the blue eyes that seemed to be the inherit trait of all the Shahrizai. "My House will not take kindly to your family when it is learned that I was harmed. Seeing how I'm of neither Valerian nor Mandrake." I looked into his eyes, trying to see what laid behind them. "If you wish an assignation, then speak to the Dowayne of Gentian."

I raised a brow at that "you are quite presumptuous especially when you are the one who tried to slap me. " I released her wrist with a smirk "and I never mentioned anything about an assignation. I simply observed that you were carrying on a conversation with yourself. I hope you are not getting any answers as that might show a bit of a corrupted mind." I still did not leave her personal space even though I was not touching her any longer. She ruled out a couple of Houses and identified herself as an adept. But I really did not care as I was not interested in her in that fashion. It was more the wounded prey type vibrations she was giving off by talking to herself and my almost irresistible urge to toy with those who make themselves such a target.

"Oh, but it was you that sparked the attempted slap. And no, I'm not getting any answers that might show a corrupted mind." I took a couple steps back away from him. I failed to see what interest he had in me, though it looked like he was of the Shahrizai House; which made me think it did not bode well for me. I had heard what one of their kinswomen attempted to do fifty or more years ago. "If you excuse me, my lord," I said with a bow. "I should be off to visit some friends I'm sure you'd want no part with."

I snorted "you seem to have twisted a couple facts to your fancy and in and of its self is quite corrupted." While not clearly panicked she was apparently unnerved a bit. Which was generally what I sought when I toyed with people in this manner. So I did not reply further but instead simply watched her as she backed away beating a hasty retreat.

"Then tell me what facts I've "twisty to my fancy". It seems only right so I may do my best next time so I don't do it in the future." I was not attempting to make a hasty retreat from him, if that's what he was thinking. He did make me somewhat unnerved, but not wholly enough to make me want to make a hasty retreat.

I shrugged “It seems rather obvious after all. I simply spoke to you and you attempted to slap me. Last time I heard speaking was not a warrant to strike but I do not know. Mayhap social protocols have suddenly been changed without anyone giving me prior knowledge. That indeed might be a bad sign that perhaps the more unsavory elements of my family are gaining way too much sway.”

"I was startled. I suppose that you had not thought speaking that close to one who is not paying attention would warrent that sort of reaction, my lord? I do apologize for attempting to strike you."

“Ah but you were startled because you were having a conversation with yourself” I shrugged yet again. “No matter no harm done most cannot manage to lay a finger on me unless I allow it.” It was a bit of a brag but I did not really consider it to be a brag since it was the truth. She seemed a bit unnerved but not overtly frightened mayhap I was losing my touch.

"I was merely speaking out loud. I was not expecting an answer in return. Only fools expect an answer to questions spoken out loud." I gave a half shrug with a single shoulder, as if showing him I cared not. Mayhap he was telling the truth about others doing harm to him unless he allowed it, I cared not. I meant no harm to him in all actuality.

I blinked a few times at her words as she had apparently not overly thought them through before she spoke them. I dare say it amused me so I stepped forward once more mildly invading her space and leaned in slightly. I lowered my voice so she might have to strain to hear me “perhaps you might wish to reconsider your words? If one had a mischievous mind and a sharp tongue they could do much by simply twisting them a bit to their liking.”

"You think I a fool, my lord?" I stood my ground when he stepped once again into my personal space and leaned in. I held my gaze straight at his chest, chin slightly lifted. I'm not of Azzalle's line, but I had my pride. I heard his voice enough to answer. "Or that I'm seeking company outside the Night Court?"

"Ah but you read too much in my words. What I meant was that might assume you were being foolish to speak out loud as such when accompanied by no one. But I was simply jesting." I held her gaze a moment then added "no harm done in either case."

"Indeed, my lord. No harm done. May I inquire you of your name?"

I dipped my head a bit "Gadleon Shahrizai and yours? THough I might already deduce with my sharp mind that the end is nó Gentian." I smiled a bit in my predatory way since she had already let her House slip.

"Kaden, my lord Shahrizai." I stepped back just enough only to bow to him.

“Nice to meet you and I reckon I should let you get on with meeting your friends.” Of all the Houses Gentian was certainly the most odd and this particular encounter had done nothing to change my opinion in that regard.
